Alissa Chiaravanond, also known as Sa, has been working on both sides
of the camera since 1988. She is Thai, Chinese, American, multilingual,
and a true citizen of the world. While growing up in Bangkok, she
worked extensively as an actor in international TV commercials,
television, and film.
Chiaravanond moved to California to continue her education where she was awarded the UC Alumni Leadership Scholarship. She graduated from the Walter A. Haas School of Business at The University of California, Berkeley.
Immediately after graduation, Chiaravanond was hired by Sun Microsystems to develop and research content for the Emmy Award winning, worldwide satellite TV program, Sunergy. During her contribution to the critically acclaimed international TV show, she lived in San Francisco, Tokyo, and Paris, where she began making short films. Since Paris, she has directed music videos, TV commercials, and several notable short films.
Chiaravanond was also a directing fellow at The American Film Institute in Los Angeles, where she sharpened her narrative skills under the guidance of Oscar winners and nominees; Frank Pierson (Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Conspiracy (2001)), Gil Dennis (Walk the Line (2005)), and other world-renowned professionals.
She wrote and directed Toy Soldier (Thailand 2008), which was screened at the prestigious Festival De Cannes in 2008. Toy Soldier has recently been awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Monaco Charity Film Festival in May 2009. Toy Soldier is being developed into a feature length film, along with another powerful East-West feature.
