JAMES LINAHON is an award winning music producer, composer and trumpet artist with more than 400 recording projects for Film, Television, Radio, Musical Theater, Video Games and CD/DVD's to his credit.
Jim has an extensive background as a studio musician and has produced and recorded for a wide diversity of artists, studios and agencies including Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Arsenio Hall, Barry Manilow, Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin, Sammy Davis Jr., Ella Fitzgerald, Henry Mancini, Sarah Vaughn, Beverly Sills, Warner Bros., The Walt Disney Co., Sony, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, A&E, World Projects International, The United States Department of State and The United Nations.
Jim's Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globe and Downbeat award winning projects cross section a wide range of genre's including the ABC Network Series "Oceanus", the NBC "Tournament of Roses Parade", the BBC "All-American Boy's Choir & London Symphony" (England), the Los Angeles Jazz Workshop, The Young Americans, The Brass Machine (Australia), Yoshi Kono (Japan), The North Atlantic Jazz Alliance (Germany), the "2000 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony" (Australia), the "EPCOT Center" opening ceremony music (Disney World) and "on air" music for the unveiling of the newly refurbished Statue of Liberty (New York). Jim served the U.S. State Department as a United States Cultural Ambassador to the Middle East & Africa (1996-97), and a fanfare from his classical trumpet CD "Gradus ad Parnassum" (Discovery) was chosen as the Official Fanfare for the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations for 1997-'98.
In 2004 Jim's production company LMP completed a new recording studio in Los Angeles "LMP Studios" designed by world renown architect Peter Gruneisen (studio:bauton & nonzero/architecture).
Jim's recent work includes the Title Song for Bejing Films "If A Life Without You" (Shanghai, China 2015) - the final CD by Kenny Wheeler "The Banff Sessions" (Challenge Records/Netherlands 2016) and a new CD for the San Diego Children's Choir and Westwind Brass. "Salute" (American Armed Forces Radio/Washington D.C. 2016).
In April of 2016 Jim was inducted into his undergraduate alma mater - The University of Northern Iowa "Jazz Hall of Fame" and in February of 2017 the California Alliance for Jazz inducted him into the "California Alliance Jazz Hall of Fame" for his work in higher education for the State of California.
Jim's served as the first American "Juror" for the "11th Annual Bucharest International Jazz Festival" (Romania) in May of 2017, and composed music for the film "Trane & Miles" directed by Scott Essman (Universal Studios) which was inducted into the "Permanent Archives of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture" in Washington D.C in April of 2017.
In 2021-22 Jim has been busy with the children's film "Lilly's Light: The Movie" for FilmRise Studios (New York, NY) / a new album for Jenny Soonjin Kim and producer Robert Zappulla recording "The Complete Keyboard Works of Leopold Kozeluch" ('Brilliant Classics'(Netherlands) / a new jazz quartet album for guitar virtuoso Larry Koonse "New Jazz Standards Volume 4" (Carl Saunders/Summit Records) / a new full orchestra album for jazz singer Alexis Cole "Sky Blossom" (Zoho Records NYC) / a new album of 20th and 21st century music for 'The Orion Saxophone Quartet' (Jeff Benedict, producer) "Mass Transit" (Centaur Records/U.S.) / a new album "The Vienna Sessions" for Bosendorfer Piano Artist Markus Burger (Challenge Records/Netherlands), a new album for the LA classical vocal group Seraphour "Angele Dei" / a new album for the Taipei Jazz Orchestra TJO "A Night In Tunisia" featuring Eric Marienthal for 'iJazz Publishing' (United Jazz Artist Records/U.S.) /.a new orchestral String Library creation for 'Fable Sounds' (Tel Aviv, Israel) / a new full orchestra album for jazz singer Sherry Williams and composer/ pianist/ arranger John Rodby "A Very Sherry Christmas" (WSRecords/Los Angeles) / and a new album "Balance of Power" for composer Peter Boyer and the London Symphony Orchestra (NAXOS Records Hong Kong).
