Sonisphere festival organiser Stuart Galbraith has praised audience members during headliner Slipknot's performance on Sunday. Slipknot's set was given a two-minute silence as a mark of respect for bassist Paul Gray, who died in May last year. The silence also took place throughout the other stages. Galbraith revealed that booking Slipknot had always been a risk following Gray's death. He told NME: "Slipknot was a tricky booking for us, because there was every conceivable chance that the band would never play again live. It was very delicate to go to them and even suggest that they would want to consider something. "The two-minute silence was fitting. It was great that [Radio 1 DJ] Dan P Carter led it for us. It was quite remarkable to hear a rock crowd be absolutely silent across the whole site. "There were (more)...

Corey Taylor has expressed concerns about carrying on with the group following bassist Paul Gray's 2010 death, but drummer Joey Jordison insists Slipknot will record and tour again.
He says, "As far as I'm concerned, Slipknot's my baby and I have a bunch of songs written. And I'm in rehearsal right now with all the guys and it's completely on fire."
They will test Gray's replacement Donnie Steele on upcoming European festival dates which they committed to before Gray's fatal drug overdose and Jordison claims the guitarist is "doing a great job".
Bandmate Shawn 'Clown' Crahan admits he will have mixed emotions when the band hits the stage for the shows without Gray: "I'll be in tears before I even hit the first stair. And I need it very much, and we need it... It's gonna be very hard."...

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has confessed he's "scared to death" about returning to the stage for the first time since bassist Paul Gray's death. The rockers have not performed live in public since Gray died from an overdose in an Iowa hotel room last May, and they're due to make their concert comeback at Europe's traveling Sonisphere festival this summer.
Taylor admits he is still struggling to come to terms with the death of his close pal, and he's dreading taking to the stage in Athens, Greece in June without Gray alongside him.
Taylor tells Kerrang! magazine, "I'm scared to death. I'm nowhere near prepared for the emotion that's going to happen. That first show is really going to be the test. That tour for the most part is going to be a test. It's very hard, man... It's still reverberating through my life... We're coming up to the year anniversary of his death,...

Hard rock super group Slipknot have asked former member Donnie Steele to replace Paul Gray on bass for their upcoming 2011 shows, according to a statement on the band's website.
The 38-year-old Gray, who had been with the band since their inception, died last year (May 24, 2010) from an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl.
"Donnie was in the band at the very beginning, and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family," the band wrote. "Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can't think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning.

Rockers Slipknot have brought in original founding member Donnie Steele to replace late bandmate Paul Gray. The rockers are set to return to the stage in 2011's summer for their first performances since Gray suffered a fatal drug overdose last May 2010.
Frontman Corey Taylor cast doubt on whether they would go through with the tour when he admitted in December 2010 that he was "on the fence" over whether the band should continue without Gray. But now they have stepped up plans for their summer shows by hiring Steele, who helped create the group but left in 1996.

Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison has promised fans an unforgettable set when they perform their comeback shows at the Sonisphere festivals in Europe this summer-the concerts will be an "exorcism" in honor of late bass player Paul Gray.
The rockers have not performed since Gray died from an overdose in an Iowa hotel room last May 2010, and only now are they preparing to start rehearsals for a series of gigs at the traveling festival in June and July. Jordison, who was pals with Gray from childhood, admits it will be tough walking out on stage without his bandmate - but he has vowed to honor Gray with "the most emotional Slipknot shows of all time".

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has revealed his secret shame - he lost his virginity to a babysitter at the age of 11. The rocker has confessed he became sexually active long before the legal age of consent of 16 in his native Iowa, and admits his first partner was "f*ked up" for wanting to sleep with a young boy.
And Taylor felt so ashamed after the experience that he avoided sex for two years. He tells Kerrang! magazine, "I am so f**king ashamed to say that I lost my virginity when I was 11 years old... It was with a very f**ked up and very giving babysitter, let's put it that way! I don't think I was very good at it that first time, though. After that I had a dry spell until I was 13. I was a bit better at it all by then, I think. I hope so anyway.

The wife of the late Paul Gray has insisted that the rocker's death was "a mistake". The Slipknot bassist was found dead in his Iowa hotel room in May after suffering a drug overdose. In a tribute to Gray in the new Revolver magazine, widow Brenna said that she would rather her husband be remembered for his music and personal achievements than his shortcomings. "I don't want people to judge him for the mistake that he made. He wasn't just a drug addict. That was a little part of his life that he couldn't overcome," (more)...

The New York Times released an online hodgepodge of musicians we lost during 2010, and have omitted three major losses during the year that should anger metalheads across the Earth. In their year review, the Times has snubbed Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath, Dio), Peter Steele (Type O Negative), and Paul Gray (Slipknot).
You can view the New York Times montage over at their site if you can be bothered. I'm not embedding it here, because for my part, I'm disgusted they've overlooked three significant musicians -- presumably just because they're from the metal genre. The grounds upon which I make this assumption are that there is no metal whatsoever in their "tribute." Rock, Soul, Pop, R&B, Hip Hop, Post-Punk are all included in the company of Funk, Disco, and others. Metal (and related genres) are nowhere to be seen [...]...

Susan Boyle might fall short of scoring the U.S. best-selling album with her debut effort "I Dreamed a Dream" when 2009 came to an end, but she got her sweet revenge when the album was named the world's best-selling record of 2009 by International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (Ifpi) in April this year. The "Britain's Got Talent" graduate scored the most popular album across the world with a massive 8.3 million in sale.

2010 was one wacky up-and-down year in the horror domain… and definitely a head-scratcher in the world of music. Sadly, music's darker side weathered some losses this year, including metal legend Ronnie James Dio, Type O Negative's Peter Steele, Paul Gray from Slipknot and Peter Christopherson of Coil. But while we miss them and the sinister sounds they could have made, we're actually here to point out some of the good times in the wild and weird world of music during the past twelve moons. Whether it's horror cinema soundscapes, splattery music videos, epic metal masterpieces or gothic power-pop grooves, the year had a little something for all of us late-night listeners. Sure, not everyone's going to...

Arch Enemy star Angela Gossow was so taken aback when her pal Adam Darski aka Nergal was diagnosed with cancer this summer, she rushed to the doctor's surgery to undergo a health check-up.
The frontwoman has been rocked by the recent deaths of rockers including Ronnie James Dio, Slipknot's Paul Gray, former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable and Avenged Sevenfold's Jimmy Sullivan aka The Rev. Gossow was left further devastated when Behemoth's Darski revealed he was suffering from a life-threatening form of leukaemia in August - but the sad news was the wake-up call she needed to ensure she takes better care of herself.
Gossow tells Britain's Kerrang! magazine, "It's been a terrible year for metal. Everyone (in the rock world) is starting to look at their own consumption of alcohol and cigarettes, what kind of food they eat and just how much touring their body can take. It's a genuine concern for me.

And while all of that is certainly enough to excite their fans, what's also notable about "(Sic)nesses" is that it's the first Slipknot release of any sort since the passing of founding bassist Paul Gray, who was found dead in an Iowa hotel room on May 24 after an "accidental" overdose of morphine and fentanyl. Those taking home prizes at this year's Kerrang! Awards have just been revealed. Bullet For My Valentine sweep two gongs, becoming the only band to receive multiple nods. They got one for Best Live Band and the other for Best British Band.

Slipknot have yet to decide whether or not to continue as a band following the death of bandmate Paul Gray because recording and performing again without the bassist is almost unthinkable. The heavy rocker, 38, was found dead in a suburban Des Moines, Iowa hotel on May 24. Toxicology and final autopsy reports have revealed Gray died from an accidental overdose.
His Slipknot bandmates have been left devastated by the tragedy and guitarist Jim Root insists the group needs time to grieve before even contemplating continuing to make music together. The former Black Sabbath frontman, who celebrates his 62nd birthday in December, will play a number of dates in the UK and Us to promote his new LP Scream, his first in three years. Slipknot star Paul Gray died from an accidental overdose of morphine, according to newly-released toxicology and final autopsy reports. The rocker, 38, was found dead in a suburban Des Moines, Iowa hotel on May 24.
Officials at the Polk County Medical Examiner's Office also noted the presence of significant heart disease in their report as well as the drug fentanyl, a potent synthetic morphine substitute. Thus the medical examiner can also rule out foul play in the death.

Slipknot's bassist Paul Gray has died of an accidental morphine and fentanyl overdose. According to police statement released on Monday, June 21, Polk County Medical Examiner Dr. Gregory Schmunk exposed toxicology test results have uncovered a fatal level of the two injectable substances in the 38-year-old rocker's body.
In the statement, Dr. Schmunk also noted that Gray suffered from significant heart disease at the time of his death. While the previously-released 911 call unveiled that "all kind of pills" were also found near the rocker's body in an Iowa hotel room, the medical examiner ruled out that the pills contributed to his death.

"We feel very comfortable that this was more than likely an accident,...

Gray also suffered from heart disease, Schmunk said. A hypodermic needle and pills were found near Gray's body when he was discovered by an employee in his room at TownePlace Suites in a suburb of Des Moines. The coroner has determined that the pills did not contribute to his death. Investigators also did not find evidence that Gray had...

Tragic bassist Paul Gray has returned from beyond the grave to feature in a haunting video tribute compiled by his Slipknot bandmates. The heavy rocker was found dead in a suburban Des Moines, Iowa hotel room last month and his passing is currently being investigated by police.
The remaining members of Slipknot have celebrated Gray's legacy in a lengthy video montage, in which the late star is featured discussing his childhood, his love for his adopted hometown of Des Moines and his Slipknot "family" in a series of interview clips. In the footage, Gray says, "All these guys, I've known 'em forever... We've all played together in different bands, different shows... They're my family."
"Every person in this band... we couldn't have the band without (them). I mean, we've done shows without people, obviously, when people have gotten hurt, or Shawn (Crahan) had some family problems, and it's never the same.

The video — posted on Slipknot's YouTube Channel — is little more than a series of interview clips from Gray, but the effect of hearing him speak at length about his childhood, his adopted hometown of Des Moines and his "family" in Slipknot is palpable: He truly was a man who loved his life, his fans and, most of all, his bandmates.
