Blackbear and Mike Posner are explaining the meaning behind the Ariana Grande reference in their new song, “… The Green Spangled Banner.”
The musicians recently teamed up to release their second album together, Mansionz 2.
The opening track, which has the Ariana reference, sets the tone for an intentionally chaotic and experimental project.
The duo explained their reasoning behind that lyric during a Thursday (November 2) interview on The Zach Sang Show.
Keep reading to find out more…
In the song, they rap, “We’re gonna treat you like an Ariana Grande song.”
When asked about the line during their interview, Blackbear replied, “Well, she has, like, the ’69′ song, and she has all these songs, like, ‘I’m gonna ride it’ and ‘I can’t walk for weeks.’”
“Yeah she does,” Mike agreed. Blackbear added, “‘Side to side,’ ’69.’”
Mike noted, “They’re really intense.”

Hours after Tom Morello appeared on The Tonight Show to perform “Hold the Line” with the help of Grandson, the guitarist announced his second LP of 2021, The Atlas Underground Flood, out Dec. 3rd.

Like its predecessor, the upcoming LP is an all-star affair, with a guest list that includes Jim James, Rush’s Alex Lifeson, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Nathaniel Rateliff, Manchester Orchestra, Ben Harper, X Ambassadors and many more.

If ever you get a chance to play cards for money with Kelly Clarkson, take it — she has no poker face. Hence, her “restrained” reaction (pictured) to Tuesday’s resolution of The Voice’s Monday-night cliffhanger.
After hearing that four-chair turn Holly Forbes’ daughter was a big Ariana Grande fan, Kelly was sure that she had about as much of a shot at recruiting the contestant as Blake Shelton or John Legend. But then Holly revealed that “I grew up listening to Kelly Clarkson,” so she was the coach that the contender wanted.

Tom Morello has tapped Phantogram for a new song, “Driving to Texas,” from his upcoming album, The Atlas Underground Fire, out October 15th via Mom + Pop.
“Driving to Texas” is a sprawling piece that builds from swooning verses filled with atmospheric synths, strings, and piano into a booming chorus driven by Morello’s keening guitar. “Believe, believe what I say,” sings Phantogram’s Sarah Barthel. “I’m driving to Texas/And now isn’t the time/You’ll break this transfixion.”

Tom Morello has recruited Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder for a fiery rendition of AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell,” the first single from the Rage Against the Machine guitarist’s upcoming all-star solo album The Atlas Underground Fire.
“Our version of ‘Highway to Hell’ pays homage to AC/DC but with Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder, brings this legendary song into the future,” Morello said in a statement. “One of the greatest rock & roll songs of all time sung by two of the greatest rock & roll singers of all time.

“The Masked Singer” finale on May 26 will be a battle between the three celebrities who are disguised as the Black Swan, Chameleon and Piglet. Of this trio of talent, the most entertaining is the contestant hidden inside the Chameleon costume. From the sound and style of his singing, the clues he gave in his videos and his conversations with the four judges we are sure we know the real name of the Chameleon. Keep reading if you dare for all of “The Masked Singer” spoilers for the season 5 finale.
From his debut in Week 2, when the Chameleon ruled the stage with his electrifying cover of “Ride wit Me” by Nelly, we’ve been certain that he was a professional rapper. We became even more sure as the weeks went on and he nailed each successive appearance capped off by his show-stopping performance of “Oh Boy” by Cam’ron featuring Juelz Santana on the May 19 semifinal.

The Chameleon landed his spot in “The Masked Singer” semifinal on May 19 with his outstanding rap of “Drop It Like It’s Hot” by Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell Williams on last week’s quarter-final. Not surprisingly, the judges sang his praises once again. Like us, they’ve been impressed with this towering talent since he first appeared in Week 1 singing “Ride Wit Me” by Nelly.
We’ve had a theory about the real name of the Chameleon since then. To confirm our suspicions, we went back and watched all of his performances to date including: “21 Questions” by 50 Cent featuring Nate Dogg (Week 4); “Hip Hop” by Dead Prez (Week 5); “Regulate” by Warren G featuring Nate Dogg (Week 7); and “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” by Busta Rhymes (Week 8). And we rewatched all of his clues videos too.
After reviewing all the evidence, we are sticking with our original theory.

Never underestimate what can go down on an MTV Movie & TV Awards show red carpet. If you should dress for the job you want and not the job you have, then Jane the Virgin's Brett Dier wants to be Batman. The actor pulled up to the 2019 event in a suit plastered with the Dark Knight. He sure is heroic for finding the courage to rock such a bold print, but he's not the only adventurous celeb when it comes to red carpet fashion. "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" singer Mike Posner made a statement in 2016 by topping off his crimson suit with a giant, over-the-head, papier-mâché mask. Can we get one of those for the next time we have a bad hair...

The Chameleon rapped his way into the quarter-finals of “The Masked Singer” on May 12 with his rollicking version of “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” on the Week 8 episode. He won over the judges on May 5 with his red-hot performance of this song made famous by Busta Rhymes, who had contended on season 4 of the show as the Dragon. While the Dragon was ousted in his first appearance, the Chameleon could go all the way and win season 5.
We’ve been convinced of the real identity of the Chameleon since he made his debut in Week 1 singing “Ride Wit Me” by Nelly. We went back and took another look at that performance as well as his others on the show to date: “21 Questions” by 50 Cent featuring Nate Dogg (Week 4); “Hip Hop” by Dead Prez (Week 5); and “Regulate” by Warren G featuring Nate Dogg (Week 7). And we rewatched all of his clues videos.

Unlike a real-life chameleon, the one performing on “The Masked Singer” has never changed his look or, for that matter, his stellar voice. This towering talent remains the frontrunner to win season 5 of this reality competition series. Expect him to shine once again on the May 5 episode, “The Spicy 6 – The Competition Heats Up!”
We’ve been wondering for weeks who is hidden inside this cumbersome costume. So we went back and watched his four performances to date: “Ride Wit Me” by Nelly (Week 1), “21 Questions” by 50 Cent featuring Nate Dogg (Week 4); “Hip Hop” by Dead Prez (Week 5); and “Regulate” by Warren G featuring Nate Dogg (Week 7). And we took another look at his clues video packages.
Like us, the four judges are fans of the Chameleon. While they are right to be so, they are wrong with their guesses that he is G-Eazy, Machine Gun Kelly, Kyrie Irving or Waka Flocka Flame.

“The Masked Singer” season 5 is coming off a double elimination on April 21 that saw two celebrities — Crab (Bobby Brown) and Seashell (Tamera Mowry)– sent home. That leaves just six contenders for the Golden Mask. The Super 6 will be featured in the special sing-along episode on April 28 before the competition resumes on May 6.
Of the half dozen stars still in the hunt, our favorite is the Chameleon, who rocked the house in Week 7 with “Regulate” by Warren G featuring Nate Dogg. The four judges love him too. But they are way off with their guesses that he is G-Eazy, Machine Gun Kelly, Kyrie Irving or Waka Flocka Flame.

“The Masked Singer” season 5 is only seven episodes in but is about to be down to just six contestants. Two of the Super 8 who perform on the quarter-final, “Super 8 – The Plot Chickens,” on April 21 will be eliminated. We certainly hope that Chameleon is not one of them. He has been one of our favorites ever since he made his debut back on St. Patrick’s Day with his rocking cover of “Ride Wit Me” by Nelly.
The Chameleon landed his spot in this week’s show after he nailed his performance of “Hip Hop” by Dead Prez on April 7. We’ve rewatched those two performances as well as his Week 4 cover of “21 Questions” by 50 Cent featuring Nate Dogg. And we’ve taken another look at all of his clues packages.
Forget the panel guesses that the Chameleon is Machine Gun Kelly, 2 Chainz, Waka Flocka Flame or Dwyane Wade.

“The Masked Singer” showcased the celebrities in Group B for the second week running on April 7. While this is only episode 5 of season 5, it is already the Group B final. Vying to continue on in the competition are three contenders who have been part of Group B since they first appeared on March 17 — Black Swan, Chameleon and Piglet — plus the Wild Card entry Crab, who first sang last week.
That episode on March 31 marked the end of the line for Grandpa Monster, who turned out to be YouTube star Logan Paul. He was bounced from the show after his cover of “Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett failed to impress the four judges.
Conversely, Chameleon once again wowed the panel with his performance. This time he rocked the house with his cover of “21 Questions” by 50 Cent featuring Nate Dogg. We’ve watched that performance as well as his March 17 appearance...

It’s fitting that a song about doing it yourself is the only track in Rolling Stone‘s year-end Top 50 chart to be penned by a single writer. The song in question, Tones and I’s “Dance Monkey,” was inspired by busking, which is exactly what the Australian artist — born Toni Watson — quit her job to do for the sake of following her dream.

The lives of novelists, filmmakers, musicians, and athletes have often been fodder for great works of art. But it’s possible that Operation: Wake Up, this odd little concept record from Mike Posner, is the first attempt to turn the slings and arrows of being a pop songwriter for hire into a meaningful narrative. Posner has had success with self-referential projects in the past; his biggest hit to date is 2015’s “I Took A Pill in Ibiza,” a clever, catchy bit of trend opportunism released at the height of America...

TikTok has been downloaded over two billion times, but some artists still remain wary of the app, uncomfortable with its reputation as an engine for dance crazes. “Some people think they’re too good for the platform, don’t want to disgrace their art — ‘this is the song, only play it on Spotify,'” says Tai Verdes, a 24-year-old, 6’7″ singer-songwriter who once hoped to play in the NBA. “Fuck that!”
“If you’re an artist and you’re not on TikTok, you don’t want it bad enough,” Verdes continues.

Publicist Nadia Ali has left Island Records to venture out on her own with Nadia Ali PR. The boutique agency will create, she says, “out-of-the-box and strategic press campaigns.”
Ali will continue to work with Island artists Mike Posner — the Grammy-nominated “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” singer-songwriter—and soul-pop singer Bishop Briggs, who dropped her debut album, “Church of Scars” (featuring hit single “River”) last month.
Ali will also represent up-and-coming Swedish pop artists Seinabo Sey (signed to Virgin Records) and Lova (Universal Music), as well as the L.A.-based indie pop duo Chaos Chaos.
Ali spent four years at Island, where she also represented Tove Lo and Sigrid. Previous to that, she worked under music-vet Liz Rosenberg (at both Warner Bros. Records and Liz Rosenberg Media) on album and tour campaigns for Madonna, Cher, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, and Chris Isaak.

Sia, Diplo, and British artist Labrinth have dropped the first song from their collaborative project, called, naturally enough, LSD. The song is called “Genius” and bears sonic hallmarks of all three — listen to it below. The song came with very little information but it seems more than likely that there is more music to come from the trio.
The three bring a sterling pedigree to the project. Sia, of course, is an artist and hit songwriter/producer whose hits under her own name include “Cheap Thrills,” “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart” — the latter a collaboration with Diplo and The Weeknd. She recently moved from RCA to Atlantic Records and her debut outing for her new label was last year’s holiday-themed collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Greg Kurstin, “Everyday Is Christmas.”
Diplo’s breakthrough came with M.I.A.’s 2004 debut album “Arular,” which he largely co-produced, and burst into the mainstream with her 2007 hit “Paper Planes.

Composer, musician and producer Jesse Novak -- yes, he’s related to B.J. from The Office -- understands what goes into an iconic TV theme. As the mind behind BoJack Horseman, The Mindy Project and Superstore, he’s created distinctive music that expands these TV worlds as well as the whimsical title theme for the latter, which is now in its third season on NBC.
A memorable theme, he says, “has its own life. It feels like a character, in a way, and it’s part of the universe. It gives you a feeling that you associate with what you’re watching.”
While he’s worked on a number of recent TV hits, Novak’s most memorable work has to come from the animated Netflix series, which recently returned for a fourth season in September and released a soundtrack of its score and original songs, including much of the music from the show’s celebrated underwater episode...

Most people want to run away from comment sections and bullies (and the bullies in comment sections), but Dylan Marron isn't most people.
The New York-based writer and performer may be best known as the voice of Carlos in the beloved mystery podcast, Welcome to Night Vale, but as the host of his very own podcast, Conversations With People Who Hate Me, Marron is taking a break from fictional narratives to, as the title suggests, take on his haters.
"Online comment sections feel like a microcosm of our current political climate. As a writer and performer whose work exists mostly on the Internet, I would get a ton of hate messages and comments," Marron tells Et. "Initially, I wanted to just block out the negativity, but as I realized that (some of) these negative comments were opportunities for actual conversation, I didn't want to keep turning these people away from my digital front door. Mike Posner may not be the first person you'd expect to have a podcast. After all, he had a hit song in 2009 -- the earworm known as "Cooler Than Me" -- and made an impressive comeback in 2016 after a few years away from the spotlight, namely with his banger, "I Took a Pill in Ibiza."
But if you know Posner, the opportunity for introspection isn't strange at all. In fact, his new podcast, What Does This All Mean?, is a natural extension for the inquisitive Duke University grad. The new series explores what it means to be human, with a recent episode diving deep into his life-changing, chance meeting with Kanye West that ultimately led to a lesson in how to turn failure into success. Posner knows what it's like to reach the heights of fame and also how to find himself again, which makes the difficult journeys he's taking us on with his 10-episode podcast all the more...

The release of "Remember I Told You" has been about a year in the making. Nick Jonas and Mike Posner began writing the song during last year's summer tour with Demi Lovato. "A couple of months later we got Anne-Marie on it. She's obviously amazing; I'm a big fan of her music," Nick told E! News' Sibley Scoles during an exclusive set visit at 1 Big Stage in Glendale, Calif. "It's been kind of spread out over a couple months. Having the song come out, seeing the reaction from the different groups of our fans and new fans, it's been really special." The single was released through Island Records and Safehouse Records in May, and the song is about when a connection...

Though her bizarre red carpet interview with singer Mike Posner at the Grammys left viewers baffled last night, Giuliana Rancic had nothing bad — or specific — to say about it this morning on “On Air With Ryan Seacrest.” Instead, the “Fashion Police” co-host avoided snark altogether, keeping her comments on the matter as nice — and calorie-free — as possible. “What was that all about?,” Seacrest asked Rancic. “You know Ryan, I don’t think that would happen at the Globes,” Rancic replied. “And that’s what makes the Grammys kind of amazing.” Also Read: Someone Please Explain to Us What Mike Posner is Doing at The Grammys.
