Slumdog Millionaire Slumdog Millionaire, 11.05pm, Film4, Monday, May 9
As always, Danny Boyle brings every ounce of energy to this tale of a teenager who finds himself under police interrogation after he is poised to win the jackpot on the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Jamal Malik (played in the present by Dev Patel and Ayush Mahesh Khedekar and Tanay Hemant Chheda in flashbacks) relates the tale of how he came to know all the answers, as we see his childhood unfold in a blend of romance, humour and, of course, tragedy. Boyle and screenwriter Simon Beaufoy keep mainstream audiences firmly in their sights but there's plenty of home truths about the plight of street kids in India beneath its shiny surface.

MTV Movies' pop culture radar rarely crosses into the realm of American politics. When it comes to the passing of laws, the jostling for influence, the occasional plunge into corruption, our coverage usually stays strictly in matters of fiction: "Frost/Nixon," "W," the vastly underrated but actually enlightening Eddie Murphy vehicle, "The Distinguished Gentleman."
Wednesday, however, brought us the opportunity to dip our digital pen into real-world political ink. Following President Barack Obama's State of the Union address the previous evening — during which he emphasized the importance of "winning the future" — former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin took to Fox News with a cutting retort.
"His theme last night was Wtf, winning the future," she said during an interview with Fox News' Greta Van Susteren. "I thought, okay, that acronym — spot on. There were a lot of Wtf moments throughout that speech."

Not only are they world-famous, the Slumdog kids are world-class travelers, too. Three months after their fairy-tale trip to the Oscars, and weeks after two of them were rendered temporarily homeless, the child stars of Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire—Ayush Mahesh Khedekar, Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and Rubina Ali—are on the go again, this time flying to Hong Kong to attend a charity fundraiser. The trio arrived at Hong Kong International Airport Friday and were greeted by a gaggle of media as they headed to a luxury hotel. On Saturday, they're expected to perform a song-and-dance routine as part of a benefit for the Hong Kong charity the Community Chest that will air on local...

There are awards shows that mean something, and then there’s the MTV Movie Awards. The Oscars and the Globes recognize talent, while events like the Teen Choice Awards and the redundant MTV show go for stunts and heartthrobs.
This year was no exception as the predictable ceremony unfolded live yet so obviously scripted. The only mildly interesting moments were categories that somehow didn’t include Twilight or High School Musical 3. Even Sacha Baron Cohen’s bare ass swooping in on Eminem looked staged. Somehow sillier was Zac Efron’s heartfelt acceptance of the golden bucket of popcorn after a half-naked man flew into the theater, or Ashley Tisdale gushing over her “Breakthrough Female Performance” win like it meant something.
Twilight picked up five statues, including “Best Movie” (over The Dark Knight), “Best Kiss,” and “Best Fight.” Kristen Stewart won “Best Female Performance.” Robert Pattinson won “Breakthrough Male Performance” (no...

Here's a treat: we have a lengthy deleted scene from the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire for you as an exclusive treat ahead of the film's DVD release next Monday. This sequence forms part of the childhood flashbacks, wherein we see Jamal (Ayush Mahesh Khedekar at this stage, later of course Dev Patel) and his brother Salim (Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail) making a living as thieves under the bleachers of the opera at Agra. We caught a glimpse of that in the completed film; in this deleted scene there's a much longer look at Jamal's experience there. The DVD's out on June 1 and was reviewed in the June issue of Empire, which is still (just about) on sale.

Here at MTV, we embrace the outrageous, celebrate the bizarre and fist-bump everything that is thoroughly head-scratching in pop culture. That's why we've introduced a brand-new category for the 2009 MTV Movie Awards: Best Wtf Moment.
The requirements for this category can no more be defined than comprehended, so let's just set the stage. You're sitting in the theater enjoying a flick, when a scene flashes across the screen that is so outlandish, so hilarious, so mind-bogglingly fantastic it becomes an instant classic. It's the scene you're talking about when you leave the theater, the scene you're telling everyone about the next day, the scene that compels you to keep asking yourself and others, "What the f---?!?"

While his costars remain in the Mumbai slums nearly three months after their collective Oscar triumph, Ayush Mahesh Khedekar walked the red carpet in Cannes Monday night. Ayush, Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail played the three main characters of the film at their youngest. Since the Oscars, Rubina and Azharuddin have returned to their life in the slums, with Rubina's house flooding with sewage and her father supposedly trying to sell her, while Azharuddin has gotten sick and had his home demolished. Ayush is from a more prosperous background, and recently signed on to a new film, "Shyam's Secret," and is promoting it in Cannes for five days. See below for recent photos of all three. Photos: ...

God bless the MTV Movie Awards.
They have the same self-indulgence but lack the arrogance of the People’s Choice Awards, and they always offer the best excuse for movies that came out last summer to get re-hyped as if they still haven’t come out yet. Plus, it’s probably the only award show where a film selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as “Best Picture” has the chance of losing to a movie called High School Musical 3: Senior Year.
Nominees for this year’s awards (which can be seen live on May 31st) were announced a few days ago, with Slumdog Millionaire and Twilight getting six nominations each. Totally more awesome than the Golden Globes, this award show aims at the real important elements of a good film. Some categories include “Best Kiss,” “Best Fight,” and even “Best Wtf Moment.” Suck it, Oscar!

The MTV Movie Awards fits somewhere in the third tier of kudocasts around the importance of the People’s Choice Awards. What’s worse, a mere nomination for an MTV Movie Award is about as validating as a “World’s Greatest Dad” coffee mug. The entire broadcast is usually good for about one and a half viral videos that make it to YouTube hours later, which should save you the agony of watching teen idols weep with gratitude while cradling a golden bucket of popcorn.

You might think that after Slumdog Millionaire cleaned up at the Oscars back in February, any and all questions about the best movies of 2008 had been definitively answered. But of course, you'd be wrong. The most prestigious movie awards of all are still yet to come... and guess what Slumdog? You've got some serious competition in the form of a little movie called Twilight! Everyone knows that the MTV Movie Awards are a joke, and I won't waste much time analyzing their list of nominees. However, I am glad to see that this year they've introduced a category for "Best Wtf Moment" because, you know, the whole award show is basically a Wtf moment! When you've got High School Musical 3 up against Slumdog Millionaire for Best Movie, it kinda calls into question your judging criteria... and are we really supposed to compare Kate Winslet's performance in The Reader to Anne Hathaway in Bride Wars?...

There were Kajol, Shiney Ahuja, Neha Dhupia, Diana Hayden, Kunal Kohli, Tisca Chopra and Ngo poster boy Rahul Bose present at the event but the real star who bagged all the attention of the media and also the present stars was Slumdog Millionaire’s little Jamaal - Ayush Mahesh Khedekar. With a newly acquired scorpion tattoo on his upper arm, Ayush was enjoying all the attention that he was getting. Kajol seemed very intrigued by his style and spoke to him more than the other stars. The child stars of Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire returned to their native India on Thursday with a police escort - because of the massive crowd which gathered to honour their achievements.
The four young actors were whisked off to Hollywood for the glitzy Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday, where they saw the film pick up eight prizes including Best Picture.
The kids, Rubina Ali, nine, Ayush Mahesh Khedekar, eight and Ali and Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, both 10, were greeted by hundreds of locals as they arrived at the Mumbai airport.
Local authorities were forced to deploy dozens of armed police around the area in a bid to stop the crowds of well-wishers surging out of control.
The movie's two Indian Oscar winners, composer A. R. Rahman and sound engineer Resul Pookutty, were also met by cheering crowds, who showered them in flower petals as they arrived back home.
Rahman, who won Oscars for Best Musical Score and Best Song was overwhelmed by the welcome, saying, "They (the fans) almost killed me with their love."
Pookutty adds, "I never expected something like this. This is history being made."...

Remember those late '80s commercials where a victorious athlete would exclaim "I'm going to Disneyland"? Well, that ad campaign could be recast with the young stars of Slumdog Millionaire.
Following the movie's Oscar sweep, Tanvi Ganesh Lonkar (who plays middle Latika), Madhur Mittal (older Salim), Azhar Mohammed Ismail (young Salim), Ayush Mahesh Khedekar (young Jamal), Rubina Ali (young Latika), Tanay Hemant Chheda (middle Jamal) and Ashutosh Lobo Gajiwala (middle Salim) visited Disneyland on Monday. Making the moment even more adorable/press-op-y, the kids took a ride on It's A Small World. Ahh...now if only Ryan Seacrest would have tried to pronounce their names on the red carpet.

The SAG Awards sparkled. Women in beautiful dresses, perfectly accessorized; men crisply attired in suits or tuxes; and flash cameras and video everywhere—it was quite a scene. There was drama …
… and romance:
Boldface names made their way down the red carpet: the bolder the name, the faster they moved. Oops, there went Brad Pitt (Benjamin Button). Too late. But Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) did pause for a moment:
He picked up an award later that evening for male actor in a comedy series. Meanwhile, the unofficial award for cutest kids went to the ones playing adman Don Draper’s children in Mad Men. Kiernan Shipka looks sweet …
… but advised me that if she won an award (she did, as part of an ensemble), it would go next to her Tae Kwon Do trophies. Easy there tiger! Meanwhile, her cast-mate and fellow winner Aaron Hart is a handsome little fellow …

Josh Brolin Milk -- Josh Brolin is in his prime as an actor. Besides playing President George W. Bush in Oliver Stone's W. this year, he took on a challenging supporting role in another political film: Gus Van Sant's remarkable Milk, a meticulously re-created slice of American political history charting the heroic life and tragic demise of openly gay San Francisco supervisor Harvey Milk. Brolin plays fellow supervisor Dan White, an ostensibly sharp, all-American family man who at first seemed to blend into the political arena of 1970s San Francisco. But White struggled with inner demons that led him to commit two murders, of Milk and Mayor George Moscone, and later take his own life. How does one play a mentally tormented real-life assassin whose motives can be speculated on yet never truly known? Brolin wisely allows the ambiguities surrounding White's meltdown to remain, while illuminating certain factors that...

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button -- Obviously, the stars of David Fincher's cinematic telling of the F. Scott Fitzgerald short story "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" are Brad Pitt as the title character and Cate Blanchett as his soul mate, Daisy. But this spellbinding fairy tale -- beautifully adapted by Oscar winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) -- requires much more than just A-list power to paint its haunting picture. In a New Orleans hospital, a dying woman asks her grown daughter, Caroline (Julia Ormond), to read from a journal. The woman is Daisy, and the diary is the extraordinary story of a man she knew named Benjamin Button, who was born old and grew younger. They shared a lifetime bond, though they only truly connected in the middle for a while. Caroline and Daisy (an astonishing deathbed performance by Blanchett) lead us into Ben's narrative of a life lived backward,...

- First time feature filmmakers Steve McQueen’s Hunger and Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges are the toast of the 11th British Independent Film nominations this year -- each share a total of seven nominations a piece, while Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire has a total of six noms in five categories and should be a serious contender in at least the screenwriting category. I’d be surprised if the votes get split equally between McQueen and McDonagh’s respective pictures, Cannes-winning Hunger carries some serious critical weight behind it. Best acting nods should go to Sally Hawkins and Michael Fassbender should come ready with a speech in hand. Here is the complete list of noms:… British Independent Film"Hunger""In Bruges""Man on Wire""Slumdog Millionaire""Somers Town" Actress Vera Farmiga, "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas"Sally Hawkins, "Happy-Go-Lucky"Keira Knightley, "The Duchess"Samantha Morton, "The Daisy Chain"Kelly Reilly,
