Bros over ovs? That seems to be Alli's (Melinda Shankar) motto in the new season of Degrassi. Ok, really, it's salsa dancing over triathlon training. Let us explain. TeenNick's longrunning hit drama returns for the summer chapter of its 13th season tonight and finds Clare (Aislinn Paul) attempting to move on from her boy drama, choosing Drew (Luke Bilyk) over Eli (Munro Chambers) only to be rebuffed, in the finale. But when she decides to do a triathlon with her Bff Alli, it turns out Alli already has plans with her new Bf, Dallas (Demetrius Joyette). In our exclusive sneak peek at Degrassi's return, Clare complains about being "utterly single," only for Drew to walk in ready for a...

The happiest day of Alli’s life quickly turned into a nightmare she couldn’t escape.
Degrassi‘s 13th season continued Jan. 28 with Alli’s (Melinda Shankar) 18th birthday, and in typical Alli fashion, she went Big. And that’s not an exaggeration; before the half-hour premiere was over, she’d been engaged, married and horrifically beaten to a bloody pulp.
Marrying Leo seemed like the easiest way to keep him in the country, but the happiest day of Alli’s life quickly turned into a nightmare she couldn’t escape, as she found herself being beaten mercilessly in Leo’s crappy car mere minutes after saying “I do.” Her family and friends were horrified by her injuries, but rather than admit they were Leo’s doing — which would also require her to come clean about the wedding — she made up a story about getting mugged.
Honestly, Alli’s story line really upsets me.

Does Becky blame herself for Adam’s death? Watch our exclusive clip from the ‘Degrassi’ summer finale!
If you got all choked up over Adam’s death on last week’s Degrassi, you’re definitely going to want to have tissues handy during the Aug. 22 summer finale. Adam’s friends and family end the show’s eight-episode summer run with a loving tribute to him — and in this preview clip, obtained exclusively by HollywoodLife.com, it’s clear Adam’s girlfriend Becky (Sarah Fisher) is going to have an especially rough time.
The scene below finds Becky preparing an informal memorial service for her (ex?)boyfriend, with pals Jenna (Jessica Tyler), Ali (Melinda Shankar) and Connor (Aj Saudin) by her side. Though they try to be supportive, it doesn’t take long for Ali to slip up and make Becky feel awkward. But hey, isn’t that what Ali’s best at?...

The afterschool special is alive and well in immigration drama “Festival Of Lights,” an amateurish independent film tracking the evolution of one family in their path from Guyana to America, and the roots they leave behind. Forgive a generation of filmmakers, well-intentioned, but unaware that nuance and subtlety are missing from their arsenal, soldiering on with incidence. “Festival Of Lights” is nothing if not busy, hop-scotching around hot-button satellite issues to the main concern of immigration like Darren Aronofsky’s camera operator lost in the K-hole. “Festival Of Light” follows young Reshna (Melinda Shankar) from her childhood in Guyana to her teenage lifestyle in America. As a child, her father Vishnu (Jimi Mistry) would take her to the Diwali festival, as they enjoyed the street fair as a family despite a hostile atmosphere that threatens their livelihood. A frantic home invasion by guerillas occurs just next door: Reshna’s...

Lights Out: Prasad’s Feature Debut a Messy, Stagnant Immigration Drama
Previously working as a documentary filmmaker, director Shundell Prasad makes her fiction feature debut with Festival of Lights. Here she explores issues of identity and immigration with a family fleeing 1970s Guyana for a better life in the United States. However, despite the population she highlights, mostly unseen or unheard in mainstream Western cinema, the end product is a contrived soap opera of cliché and predictability. Top that off with an extremely grating, off-putting lead performance, a weak screenplay and a rather uninspired look, and you have what feels like a film school conversation piece inspired by innately better material, which something like Mira Nair’s similar 1991 film, Mississippi Masala (yes, different region and immigration experience explored) simply blows out of the water in comparison.
Beginning during a period of political turmoil, we are introduced to Vishnu (Jimi Mistry...

Because nothing in Clare's life is ever really gonna go right and this is Degrassi, being Asher's intern is goin' horrible and even Asher's boss greets Clare with a sassy punch to the gut. But that doesn't stop Clare from bein' all virtually aggressive! She sends Asher her pitches so that he can take a look at them. And maybe fondle them a bit. I'm not talking about her pitches, am I? Totally talking about her breasts. Roll the opener!

Did Eli and Clare get back together? Is Jenna still ignoring the existence of her kid?...

Hey! We're Gonna Have Another Exclusive Degrassi: Showdown Clip On The Site Tomorrow. So, you know, you should be here for that.
The one thing you should know about Degrassi is that this is a school that runs on secrets and lies. Like, have you ever checked the cafeteria food? Because I'm pretty sure it's composed of secrets, lies, and saturated fats. Anyway, let's start week two!
And can you imagine that I typed that before Zig starts moaning about hating secrets? Because I completely did, I swear. Either way, Zig is now the lead singer of Whisper Hug, which is literally exactly the worst band name ever, and I know this because I checked the giant list of every band name that hasn't been taken and that was dead last. Anyway, the only thing poorer than Zig's band's name is Zig. Zing! Roll Those Credits!

Hot on the heels of our incredibly popular one-on-one with Aislinn Paul comes our second in a series of “Snappy Answers to Silly Questions” courtesy of co-star Melinda Shankar. So just which of her co-stars did Melinda claim has a serious on-set cell phone addiction… believe is destined for greatness… or least like their character? Find out for yourself, after the jump.
The TV Addict: Which cast member is most likely to crack up during a scene?
Melinda Shankar: Oh Jahmil [Dave Turner], because recently it’s been a lot of Dave and Allie and he’s a funny kid. We just have this disease — together — that we can’t stop laughing once we start.
When you’re not shooting, which cast member is most likely to be checking their phones, twittering, texting and what have you?

Are you heading to Comic Con? — Jessica
The TV Addict: Sadly, no. Due to a lack of a private jet and/or money tree growing in our backyard, this TV Addict had to make somewhat of a “Sophie’s Choice” this summer. Thus, rather than choose to spend four days in the sweltering and sunny Petri dish that is beautiful downtown San Diego, we’ve opted to spend the first week of August in what we suspect will be a frigid Beverly Hilton Hotel ballroom for the summer instalment of the Television Critics Association Press Tour. That said, if you’ve come to theTVaddict.com for San Diego Comic Con coverage, we’ve got you covered thanks to West Coast senior editor extraordinaire Tiffany Vogt and her phenomenal photag sister Jennifer. So stay tuned.
Any word on how the newest addition to Bones (Read: Brennan’s baby bump!) will effect Bones this season?...

Lots of changes this week! Should Anya give Owen a chance? Will Alli get back with Drew? Read on & tell us!
Just as Annie Clark hinted in our interview, the April 8 episode of Degrassi brought the end of “Fadam,” as Fiona finally realized she only liked the girl-half of transgender boyfriend Adam (Jordan Todosey.) And while the announcement came as a shock to Mama Coyne (aka the classiest woman of all time), I think everyone’s a little relieved to hear Fiona’s not into guys — at least this means she won’t be kissing her brother again!
And even though Fiona’s dreams were full of “Folly J” action, she decided not to act on her impulses with Holly J (Charlotte Arnold) — not yet, at least. Maybe Fiona isn’t as attracted to girls on dialysis as she thought she did.
Meanwhile in Degrassi-land, Alli (Melinda Shankar) continued her...
