Peppy comedy sets four jaded Los Angelenos up with a perilous challenge that could go on for eternity – and certainly has franchise potential
A kindred spirit to Jumanji, this film is centred on a supernatural board game its four protagonists must win before sunrise to avoid being trapped for all eternity playing it. It’s to director Alberto Belli’s credit that his comedy drums up a sizeable proportion of the 1995 film’s fun on a fraction of the budget. Decidedly only for players aged 16 and above, like all great board games Gatlopp gives a vague impression of imparting significant life wisdom, but actually is mostly concerned with making sure everyone has as good a time as possible.
After his wife cheats on him, Los Angeleno Paul (Jim Mahoney) is finalising his divorce and moving into temporary digs chez bestie Cliff (Jon Bass). Wanting to cheer his pal up, Cliff...

"Do me a favor? Roll a 6." XYZ Films has revealed an trailer for an indie horror comedy titled Gatlopp, marking the feature directorial debut of Mexican filmmaker Alberto Belli. "One game. One rule. Don't lie... or you die." That's the tagline here, and the premise for this. A group of friends reunite for an evening after one of their own has a gnarly divorce. As it's been almost a decade since they were last all together, waxing nostalgic, they decide to play a drinking game. But this is no ordinary game; if they don't bond together to confront their past, they'll be forced to play the game for eternity. The cast includes Jim Mahoney (who wrote the script), Emmy Raver-Lampman, Jon Bass, Sarunas J. Jackson, Shelley Hennig, John Ales, and Amy Davidson. This looks hilarious! A dash of Jumanji with some horror board game madness. I like the bright, colorful...

Few can argue that Latinos haven’t been greatly underrepresented in Hollywood, particularly at the creative level. A key reason, many say, is an insufficient comprehension of what the terms “Latino” and the gender-neutral “Latinx” mean.
When Hollywood thinks about Latino or Latinx talent, its instinct is to turn to the Oscar-winning Mexican directors Alfonso Cuarón, Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Guillermo del Toro or to acclaimed Spaniards such as Pedro Almodóvar as mistaken examples of inclusion. Most would have a difficult time naming an American Latino filmmaker besides Robert Rodriguez or creatives other than Jennifer Lopez and Eva Longoria.
Such a superficial grasp of the distinct groups of people included in the ethnic terms “Latino” and “Latinx” has led to the perpetual omission of U.S.-born-and-raised Latinos in front of and behind the camera. Their experiences are either entirely ignored or lumped together with those of their Latin American counterparts,...

Latinx directors Alberto Belli (The House of Flowers), Aurora Guerrero, Joel Novoa and Diego Velasco (Orange is the New Black) have launched LatinxDirectors.com, the first site that is specific to Latinx episodic and film directors.
The site focuses on creating a simple user experience for both sides of the pipeline. Studio executives, producers, showrunners and agents will be able to find directors of all genres with specific heritage, specialties, and levels of experience. In addition, users can easily watch reels and access current representation. It’s essentially a valuable resource to seek out creators of Latinx descent.
Velasco said that the idea for Latinx Directors came about a year ago when the founders were sharing similar experiences about executives complaining that there were no Latinx directors to hire for their shows even though they knew so many that were ready to work.

I really don’t think HBO’s Girls has enough explosions or gratuitous sex. If there’s any director who could fix that, I have to imagine it would be Michael Bay. The Transformers director is about as far away from telling a small-scale New York dramedy about a foursome of Millennials as Wes Anderson is from directing X-Men.
But thankfully, YouTube director Alberto Belli has given us this amusing parody video in which Hannah Horvath gets a little sexed up, lens flares, canted angles and all. Watch it above.

In the spirit of post-Halloween nostalgia, a three minute horror short that takes a whole new fatal look at the iOS 7 feels like a perfect remedy. British actor Tom Hiddleston has responded to the recent petition created by fans to see his character Loki from the Marvel Studios films get his own standalone movie.
Participating in an online Twitter chat yesterday, Hiddleston was asked about the petition and future appearances beyond the upcoming "Thor" sequel of his villain character. He said:
"I am flattered and amazed. Really and truly. It means the world that you love the character so much. 'Thor: The Dark World' is, definitively, the only one on the slate for now. But... never say never."
Meanwhile, HBO CEO Richard Plepler has commented on Alberto Belli's video "It's not porn, it's HBO" which went viral last week and has clocked up over 2.5 million views.
Plepler calls the vid a nice compliment, and tells The Huffington Post: "The guys who did this did great work. I laughed. I take it in the...

A few days ago, Alberto Belli put together a video poking fun at HBO, claiming that the network's popular, award-winning TV series are basically porn. It has already been watched by almost 2.5 million people. The video shows aspiring actors bragging to their friends that they booked a role in a project. But when asked what the role is, the actors describe sex scenes similar to what you would see in porn movies. But it's not porn, it's HBO. HBO CEO Richard Plepler has now commented on the video, calling it "funny" and "a nice compliment." He added: "I laughed. I take it in the same manner in which it was intended, with a lot of humor." Plepler believes the video indicates that HBO is "part of the global conversation." Video (not safe for work):...

Getting a major on-screen role is exciting for any actor, right? Well, what if it means playing Vampire #1 in a steamy orgy? Or the girl who's made to crawl through a guy's apartment and then get ejaculated on? Filmmaker Alberto Belli just posted a short film featuring Los Angeles actors excitedly telling their friends and family about roles that sound alarmingly porny. But it's okay -- it's not porn, it's just HBO. Take a look at the quite funny video below:...

True Blood fans, lend us an ear: Did anyone else ever wonder, during the show's fifth season, what the mother of the actress playing vampire goddess Lilith must have been thinking? Lilith was naked and covered in blood for the entire time. Oh, and she didn't have any lines. "My daughter doesn't have any lines, but her merkin speaks volumes!" To be fair, Lilith graduated to dialogue (and clothing) in season 6. But that basic premise is at the heart of this YouTube spoof by director Alberto Belli, which shows "Various actors book their first major role in L.A." That first major role? Being a glorified extra in an HBO sex scene. The video—which, unsurprisingly, is...

Noir is not just about black and white, desolation and the modern detective novel. Quite often, these films are about the isolation the weary P.I. faces and his outlook on life is often bleak. Sometimes, this individual simply needs a little spice in his life, or his funny bone tickled.
In The Case of the Missing Garden Gnome (Cmgg), this genre gets a stylish update. It’s like watching an episode of "Magnum P.I." near the end of its run, when the production team and cast decided that they should have fun with conventions. Here, this short film project is a light-hearted look at the life of Seamus Biggs (Rob Benedict), a gumshoe looking for a case that will make his career. He has...

According to the Urban Dictionary, a zombo is one of either five definitions and there is no unanimous agreement over which is the correct term. In the short film of the same name, it is the nom de plume of the lead character, a zombie hobo looking for the sound of music to sing along to in the world of 1930's Broadway.
In this little alternate universe, zombies are a fact of life and they retain their human intelligence. Because of that, these creatures are treated like dogs. When they become a nuisance, they can be carted away to a pound. With Zombo (Nicholas Joseph Harden) and Frank (Kelly Connell) looking for their next meal, how each of them embraces their life on the streets differs from how they interpret success. Frank...
