Congrats! Production company Straight Up Films (of Transcendence, Jane Got a Gun) will be adapting the nonfiction bestseller Dead Mountain: The Untold True Story Of The Dyatlov Pass Incident by Donnie Eichar, and they've picked up the rights to turn it into a feature film. Attached to write the script is Brandon Lee Tenney, a name you may recognize as he wrote for this site for many years. Brandon is a friend of mine and wrote many articles and reviews for us (find his posts here) before transitioning into a screenwriting career. This is his first major deal as a screenwriter and I'm proud to be able to post this news. Tenney is adapting the book Dead Mountain, which has become a bestseller since its initial release in late 2013. It tells the true story from the 1950s of nine experienced hikers in the Russian Ural Mountains who were found mysteriously dead.

Straight Up Films is developing a film based on Donnie Eichar's book "Dead Mountain" which Brandon Lee Tenney has been hired to adapt for the screen.
The story deals with Eichar's five-year probe into the unsolved 1959 deaths of nine experienced hikers in Russia's Ural Mountains - an event also known as the "Dyatlov Pass incident".
Soviet investigators had found that the hikers had torn open their tents and run barefoot out into the snow on a night in February, saying an 'unknown compelling force' had caused the deaths.
Access to the region was subsequently blocked for hikers and adventurers for three years, whilst there has been decades of speculation. Theories range from failed Soviet military experiment to even an alien attack.
"Transcendence" producers Kate Cohen and Marisa Polvino are teaming with Casey Carroll to produce the film. The story was previously the subject of the 2013 film "Devil's Pass" which IFC released in the U.

Our own regular contributor Brandon Lee Tenney has already put this summer's movies on notice for being fairly uninspiring and mostly disappointing. And maybe there's a good reason for that in the form of a new video that aims to be humorous, but also makes a valid point about the state of blockbusters and their generic appeal today. Now the video, called Every 3D Movie is the Same, uses some clips from movies that weren't in 3D, including footage from G.I. Joe: Retaliation that has yet to be seen in 3D, but it's better viewed as a critique on just how similar all these big Hollywood tentpoles are on the big screen. Here's the amusing but simultaneously sad Every 3D Movie is the Same from Funny or Die: Honestly, I couldn't believe just how many of these epic action shots were similar from film to film. Rather than just focusing...

Now that we've made our way into July, complete with the blockbuster release of The Amazing Spider-Man just in time for the holiday weekend, it's the halfway point. But there's plenty of movies to look forward to, especially for those who have been somewhat disappointed by the movies of the summer (see our own Brandon Lee Tenney's outlook on this year's duds). And so, there's no time like the present to look at some of the films slated to hit theaters in the second half of the year which still have our curious eyes watching closely. From The Dark Knight Rises to The Hobbit, there's plenty to be pumped for in the rest of 2012. The Dark Knight Rises Directed by Christopher Nolan In Theaters July 20th What more needs to be said at this point? We're only a few weeks away from finally experiencing the finale to Christopher Nolan's epic Batman trilogy.

"Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!" Mondo Tees created a fantastic series of posters for the Planet of the Apes franchise last May during a screening series at the Alamo Drafthouse called "Day of the Apes". For some reason, these posters are just getting revealed in full online now, and extras will be sold off this week. A number of different sites (via Collider) have unveiled five of the official posters for the five movies in the franchise, with a sixth one promoting the event thrown in for good measure, too. If you're an Apes fanatic like our own Brandon Tenney, you'll go crazy for these posters. Check 'em out below! Here's all six Planet of the Apes posters organized chronologically for the films in the franchise, with the sixth "Go Ape" one added in there as well (which you'll get if you buy the entire...

"Can you imagine flying over a war, and you know you can never look down?" I admit I'm a huge Steven Spielberg fanatic, mostly because I've grown up with his many films and love the epic storytelling he has a knack for. I was anxious to see War Horse, as it brings Spielberg back to the war landscape, which I personally love. I attended a screening of the film nearly a month ago and recorded a video blog at the time with our own Brandon Tenney and Peter Sciretta from SlashFilm, discussing our spoiler-free initial thoughts on the film we'd just seen. It finally arrives in theaters this weekend, so here is our video in full. War Horse is as magnificent, epic and wonderfully entertaining (and emotional) as we've all come to expect from Spielberg, but I have to admit I felt there was something missing, something out of balance...

Hollywoodnews.com: Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”) premiered his latest film, “Cowboys & Aliens,” to an enormous crowd Saturday night at San Diego Comic-Con. The director’s latest is a genre mash-up, adapted from Scott Mitchell Rosenberg’s 2006 graphic novel of the same name. In this Western meets Science-Fiction epic, in 1873 Arizona, an outlaw named Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) awakens with no memory of his past and a mysterious shackle around his wrist.
This shackle, complete with futuristic technology, holds the key to defeating a new enemy: Aliens! From the skies, without warning, spaceships descend on the sleepy town of Absolution and the townspeople, along with outlaw Jake, must make a stand against them. The film also stars Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde and Paul Dano.
After last night’s screening, film critics fled the theater and took to their MacBooks and Smartphones in an attempt to get...
