It's finally happening: we're getting another season of Severance.
Who knew a cliffhanger could keep us on the edge of our seats for nearly two years? It takes a crackpot writing team and a stellar cast to elicit the kind of response that the season one finale got out of its fanbase, and boy, does Severance deliver on both fronts.
The news we've all been anxiously waiting for is here. Season two is coming, and it's sure to be a doozy.
It may be because this millennial's first introduction to Ben Stiller was his three-film stint as Greg Focker, but his directorial deftness still exceeds expectations.
Plus, with a cast teeming with industry legends, it's no surprise that Apple TV was more than happy to gift us another season. So, without further ado, here's everything we know about what's to come for our friends at Lumon Industries.

Welcome back to Lumon.
“Severance” Season 2 has returned to production, which was delayed for months due to the Hollywood strikes.
Season 2 of the popular Apple TV+ thriller stopped shooting in May 2023 when the Writers Guild of America first went on strike against the studios represented by the AMPTP. The writers strike ended on Sept. 26, but by that point, SAG-AFTRA was 74 days into a strike of its own. Now that SAG-AFTRA has also reached a deal with the studios, everyone in Hollywood is cleared to go back to work, and “Severance” is back on track.

(Left) Julia Roberts; (Right) Cate Blanchett and Natasha Lyonne all attend the 28th Annual Critics Choice Awards.
This week marked a seismic shift in awards season in Hollywood, as key events like the AFI Awards Luncheon and the BAFTA Tea Party shifted away from Golden Globes weekend and onto the one now owned by the Critics Choice Awards. Beautiful and talented people were everywhere, cool new streaming films and shows premiered and it rained like we needed Noah’s Ark here in Southern California. The Sundance Film Festival opened, too, sending everyone who has an independent film into the Wasatch Mountains (more on that next week).

Patricia Arquette has a sinister warning for “Severance” fans.
The Emmy-winning actress teased that audiences should be “very scared” of what’s in store for Lumon employees in the upcoming Season 2 of the Apple Original series.
“Be scared, very scared,” Arquette told Entertainment Tonight. “No, I think these guys have been working really hard, and come up with a lot of really creative things. They have a whole world in their minds. They just let us in, piece by piece, into what’s going on, but I think it will be fun and beautiful.”
Arquette claimed that she knows “very little” about the second season, saying, “They don’t tell me anything, so I’m innocent.”
And while production started in late 2022, there is still no premiere date for the return of “Severance.”
“You’ll get it when you get it,” Arquette said. “And you won’t get upset.”

Though most kudos events are competitive, the annual AFI Awards, honoring 21 film and TV works, proved communal. Sarah Polley chatted with Michelle Williams, Jerry Bruckheimer was deep in conversation with James Cameron, the “Better Call Saul” talent huddled with “Reservation Dogs” and Steven Spielberg enthused about “The Bear” to the show’s team and FX Networks chairman John Landgraf.
The luncheon Jan. 13 at the Four Seasons Beverly Hills was filled with 250 industry heavy-hitters, but the scene-stealer was someone who had no attachment to any of the honored works: Al Pacino, who closed the event with a 10-minute speech that seemed rambling and hilarious, but proved to be pointed and concluded with a bang.
Before the event started, Universal Pictures chairwoman Donna Langley praised the annual gathering to Variety, saying: “It reminds us of the dignity and elegance of the industry as we gather here to celebrate artistry.”

It’s official: “House of the Dragon” is better than parent series “Game of Thrones.” At least where the Golden Globes are concerned.
During Tuesday night’s 2023 Golden Globes ceremony, HBO’s “HotD” surprised awards pundits by winning the Best Drama Series prize over category front-runner “Severance,” plus “The Crown,” “Better Call Saul” and “Ozark.” As you may recall, “GoT” was nominated for eight Golden Globes throughout its eight-year run, only winning for supporting actor Peter Dinklage; it lost the Best Drama Series prize a whopping five times.

It has been a running gag for years that “Better Call Saul” is one of the most overlooked television series when it comes to awards shows. Diehard fans of this “Breaking Bad” spin-off series already know of its record at the Emmy Awards, going 46-and-0 to date, including six losses for Best Drama Series. So perhaps it should not come as a surprise to people that the legal drama also has yet to win the top category at the Critics Choice Awards. Will this be the year “Better Call Saul” triumphs in Best Drama Series for its sixth and final season?

For two decades, the SAG Awards all but ignored science fiction on TV. There were exceptions, of course — the ensembles of “3rd Rock From the Sun,” “The X-Files” and “Lost” were all nominated, and John Lithgow, Kristen Johnston, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson earned individual recognition. It wasn’t until the 2016 SAG Awards — when the first seasons of “Westworld” and “Stranger Things” both earned nominations for their ensembles and their respective stars Thandie Newton, Millie Bobby Brown and Winona Ryder — that the guild began to regularly consider sci-fi performances as worthy of recognition alongside other series.
Even then, however, nominated shows “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Lovecraft Country” and “Squid Game” sit on the fringes of what most people even consider to be science fiction. This year, the SAG Awards have the opportunity to nominate ensembles and performances on multiple shows that sit enthusiastically at sci-fi’s center.

“It’s been so gratifying to watch the fans fall in love with ‘Severance,'” says actress Britt Lower, who plays Helly on the Apple TV+ thriller. “When we were making the show we were in this bubble, figuring out what the show was. We all fell in love with these characters and with Dan Erickson‘s writing and Ben Stiller‘s direction. We were also like, ‘This is pretty weird! Do you think people will get this? Will they enjoy it as much as we are enjoying making it?’ We had no clue that it would touch peoples’ hearts and minds in the way it has.” Watch our video interview above.

The 2023 Golden Globes nominations were announced on Monday morning (December 12), leaving several projected heavy-hitters for the upcoming Oscars off the slate. The most notable rejection was “Women Talking,” which missed for Best Film Drama, Sarah Polley for Best Film Director and its pair of Best Film Supporting Actress contenders, Jessie Buckley and Claire Foy. Polley did manage to squeak out a nomination for Best Film Screenplay and Hildur Guðnadóttir was nominated for Best Film Score.
Other major contenders that won’t compete include Best Film Actress contenders Danielle Deadwyler (“Till”) and Naomi Ackie (“I Wanna Dance With Somebody”). On the men’s side, Tom Cruise was shut out for “Top Gun: Maverick,” despite the film receiving a bid for Best Film Drama.

Severance is an Apple TV+ sci-fi psychological thriller series created by Dan Erickson, directed by Ben Stiller, and stars Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, John Turturro and Tramell Tillman.
An excellent series that has been awarded with an Emmy and has received raving reviews. Thrilling, engaging and intriguing, it tells a novel story with interesting characters brought forth with the astounding performances by an A-list cast. It navigates drama, thriller and sci-fi so craftily, it will have you glued to the screen.

Choosing the best TV episodes is very different from choosing the best TV.
The best episodes might be outstanding hours of shows that fluctuate in quality, or a pivotal character moment or story beat that contextualizes everything else. Sometimes the best episode is part of an almost embarrassing bounty — just one of many consistently brilliant installments in a TV show that blew away both audiences and critics.
IndieWire’s look at the best TV episodes of 2022 is all those things, populated by our usual suspects of top 2022 TV as well as hours we couldn’t forget and shows we gladly binged in a weekend. There is drama, there is comedy, there is literal “Euphoria.” This list has it all. What it doesn’t have, however, is more than one episode from the same show, in an effort to spread the wealth.

2022 TV did not have to go that hard, but it did. From old favorites consistently outdoing themselves to new shows that enchanted both audiences and critics, it was quite a year for networks, cable, and streaming.
2022’s debut shows took viewers everywhere; the saucy ’70s, the corners of the Star Wars universe, the American South through the eyes of bloodthirsty undead, even a relentlessly stressful Chicago kitchen. Picking only 12 was more daunting than ever, but the IndieWire TV team laughed, cried, and fought it out over our favorites.
Here are the 12 best new TV shows of 2022, in order of premiere date.
1. “Abbott Elementary” (ABC)
Though the pilot premiered in December of 2021, “Abbott Elementary” became 2022’s instant network TV darling, now settling into its second season. Creator Quinta Brunson stars as second-grade teacher Janine Teagues, whose unyieldingly cheery perspective on education can’t help endear her to beleaguered colleagues at a”n underfunded Philadelphia public school.

Everything Everywhere All At Once is the movie miracle of the year. It’s an original film not based on a previously created intellectual property that became A24’s highest-grossing movie. It managed to combine the quirky comedy of the directors, The Daniels, as well as the martial arts action of star Michelle Yeoh, along with a poignant family story. It also saw the return of beloved 80s child actor Ke Huy Quan of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies.
The film was a big winner at the 2022 Gotham Awards, according to Variety. Quan took home the award for Best Supporting Performance after 20 years of being absent from the industry. Quan would humbly show his appreciation in his speech, “Oftentimes it is in independent films, where actors who otherwise wouldn’t get a chance, find their opportunities. Patricia Arquette wanted to sever herself during the Covid-19 production lockdowns.
The Emmy-nominated “Severance” star revealed that she was forced into quarantine five times while filming the AppleTV+ series, helmed by Ben Stiller.
“I got put in lockdown like five times so I spent like two and a half months alone on top of normal lockdown,” Arquette exclusively told IndieWire during the 2022 Gotham Awards. “We were shooting during Covid before you could get shots and there’s one scene where I’m yelling at Natalie [Sydney Cole Alexander], I’m very, very close to her, and I’m like, ‘Ehh.’ I know we’re testing, I know I’m not going anywhere at night, but I’m like, ‘What if I got this girl sick? What if she got really sick?’ That was a weird pressure I’ve never felt in acting before.”
Arquette continued, “I never worried about something like that.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once,” a multiverse-spanning adventure, scored at the 32nd annual Gotham Awards, capturing the prize for best feature. It also nabbed a best supporting performance honor for Ke Huy Quan, a former child star best known for his work in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” who returned to acting after a nearly 20-year hiatus.
“Oftentimes it is in independent films, where actors who otherwise wouldn’t get a chance, find their opportunities,” Quan said in an emotional speech. “I was that actor.”
Other notable winners included Danielle Deadwyler, who nabbed a best leading performance prize for her work as a grieving mother in “Till.” The Gothams’ acting prizes are gender-neutral, which meant that Deadwyler not only competed with the likes of Cate Blanchett in “Tár,” but that she also beat out contenders such as Brendan Fraser in “The Whale” and Paul Mescal in “Aftersun.”

With the 2022 Gotham Awards in the books, this year’s award season is officially underway. While the independent film awards don’t always align with the Academy Awards, they’re an essential showcase for small films hoping to remain on the minds of key Academy members.
The Gotham Awards recognized 23 feature films, 15 series, and 35 performances in a total of twelve award categories, and the awards were spread between some of the year’s biggest Oscar contenders. The Daniels’ A24 blockbuster “Everything Everywhere All at Once” was one of the night’s big winners, taking home both Best Feature and Best Supporting Performance for Ke Huy Quan.
Best Lead Performance went to Danielle Deadwyler for her performance in “Till.” Todd Field’s “TÁR” and Charlotte Wells’ “Aftersun” were also rewarded with Best Screenplay and Best Breakthrough Director, respectively. Shaunak Sen’s “All That Breathes” won Best Documentary Feature.

Christine Baranski‘s surprise inclusion for “The Good Fight” wasn’t the only shocker that last year’s Best Drama TV Actress Golden Globe lineup delivered. After being left out for the third season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” two years earlier, Elisabeth Moss returned to the category for its fourth installment. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which had shut out Season 3 of the Hulu drama across the board, had seemingly moved on from the show and rarely invites people back to the party after dropping them for a regular series. The fact that Moss was able to overcome all these hurdles is a feather in her cap, and the reason you shouldn’t be caught off guard if she now pulls off yet another nomination, for Season 5, despite facing much stiffer competition this time around.
In hindsight, the actor’s return to the TV drama actress lineup shouldn’t have been that surprising at all.

On Monday, to celebrate the holiday, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs released the music video for their eclectic song “Wolf.” The visual follows Severance actress Britt Lower getting lost in the woods and turning completely feral, before discovering Karen O. at a middle-of-nowhere bar.
The cinematic visual, directed by Allie Avital, sees Lower sitting at an empty kitchen table, ignored by who seems to be her husband. She stares blankly into space and follows a talking bluebird into the wild.
