Kathleen Edwards can’t believe it: The first original song she’s releasing since 2012 is full of “meows.” The song is “It’s Christmastime (Let’s Just Survive),” a highlight from the forthcoming holiday album A Dualtone Christmas that features artists like Amos Lee, the Lone Bellow, and Delta Spirit.
“We’re really going in with a bang,” Edwards says of the tongue-in-cheek ode to lovably disastrous holidays that features Edwards providing a cat-like refrain. “I’ve been working on my unison ‘meows’ this whole time.”
The song, which Edwards describes as “little fragments,...

This week, Brooklyn-based power trio We Barbarians release their latest Ep, Mexico, NY. The album’s significance, however, goes far beyond it being their lastest collection of songs to be pressed to vinyl. On October 29 of last year, the band’s Greenpoint storage space was ravaged by Hurricane Sandy. It was a space they shared with the bands Delta Spirit and Cults, but while those two bands were out on tour, We Barbarians were in New York, as was what frontman David Quon estimates was $45,000 worth of instruments and equipment they had accumulated over 10 years. Almost all of it...

Fans of Dead Confederate or Diamond Rugs might recognize musician T. Hardy Morris, but his debut solo album Audition Tapes isn’t likely to sound so familiar. After nearly a decade of non-stop collaboration within the musical mecca of Athens, Ga. and with artists all over the industry, Morris has still managed to create a record that sounds distinctly new. Audition Tapes was recorded at Playground Sound Studios with the help of producers Adam Landry and Justin Collins. Morris also had a variety of friends stop by the studio to contribute to the tracks, ranging from Matt Vasquez (Delta Spirit) to...

First it was fun., then it was food trucks.
Now, with the announcement of Jill Scott, Robert Plant, Robin Thicke, Estelle and others joining the lineup, entertainment for the 2013 Taste of Chicago is looking downright delicious.
Wednesday, the city announced the full lineup of music for the Taste, which has shaped up to include a solid mix of R&B, rock, indie pop and hip-hop.
In March, Taste officials teased the entertainment in store by revealing Grammy winners fun. would headline the July 10-14 festival in Grant Park. Other performers on the Taste bill were some of the freshest the festival has had in years — an important move given how badly the annual event has struggled to stay in the black in recent years.

Three years ago, Paste published the first “Day in the Life” story featuring Delta Spirit. It was essentially a photo journal of what it’s like to be with the artist or band for the day. Photos taken during load-in, sound check, backstage, during the concert and sometimes a quick photo shoot made the cut. The photographer, Doug Seymour, soon found himself taking more behind-the-scenes photos and needed somewhere to host these images: a series was born. In July of 2011, Paste published A Day in the Life of Erykah Badu. It quickly became one of the most popular photo features...

Looks like someone in the mayor's office has taken a page from the Lollapalooza playbook and snapped up the hip-yet-mainstream-friendly Grammy-winning trio fun. to headline the 2013 Taste of Chicago.
"The theme is 'fun' for this year’s 33rd Annual Taste of Chicago," according to a Monday release from the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.
The Brooklyn-based rockers — whose hit "We Are Young" was heard just about everywhere in 2012 — will open the first night of the fest on July 10 along with California's Delta Spirit ("Girls" fans, keep your eyes peeled for a Lena Dunnam sighting).
Despite posting $1.3 million in losses last year, the lineup is a good indication the Taste is willing to fight for survival, particularly if that means investing in acts that will truly draw a crowd.
In 2009, the bookings showed evidence of the fest's budget woes with hardly heat-seeking acts like the Barenaked Ladies, the Wallflowers and Counting Crows.

When you.re thinking about indie music and the corporations that seem most likely to promote that music, Taco Bell probably doesn.t cross the mind - despite the fact that their Mexi Melts rock harder than a lot of bands formed this century. For the last seven years, however, their program Feed the Beat has promoted a sizable group of musical acts, such as Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Delta Spirit and Portugal, The Man, using them for advertising, promotional events, or even just giving them free food after a late night gig. The fast food giant is upping its game in 2013, with their first-ever Rockumentary Feed the Beat: SXSW 2013. The project will follow in the footsteps of the Beastie Boys. 2006 concert documentary I Fuckin. Shot That by giving cameras to a large group of fans of popular indie bands Passion Pit and Wildcat! Wildcat!, and allow them to record...

While he's gone from a stoner coming-of-age tale to a cancer comedy to this weekend's zombie rom-com "Warm Bodies," one thing that has marked the the films of Jonathan Levine have been a keen ear on the soundtrack. And that's not different with this latest effort, which serves up a pretty solid selection of tracks to go with the undead. Used to highlight both comedic and character moments, the songs in the movie range from John Waite's "Missing You" (used as a bit of a running gag), Guns 'N Roses "Patience" and Scorpions "Rock You Like A Hurricane" for the lighter moments, while serious brooders like Bon Iver, Bob Dylan, The National and Bruce Springsteen perfectly cue up the more emotional beats. Meanwhile, M83 and Delta Spirit keeps things from getting too heavy. There's no official soundtrack release, so you can use the below to make your own mixtape.

It's officially a month into 2011 now, so all of us can take a step back and see where we're standing on all those wonderful New Year's resolutions that seemed so noble and important four weeks ago. Well, not me. I didn't make any New Year's resolutions because when you manage to sprain an ankle and break a finger on New Year's Eve, I think that counts as a massive goddamn hint about what the universe has to say about your near future. In my case, what it was mostly saying was that I'd spend the first several weeks of 2011 alternately frustrated and in pain, with a high chance of having a finger that will be stuck at an angle best described as "jaunty." You should all be so lucky. So let's hear how the resolutions are or aren't coming along and in the meantime here's your Monday night TV:
