Exclusive: Adrienne O’Riain is leaving the Turner networks after 11 years, most recently as SVP, original programming for TNT, TBS and truTV, serving as co-head of scripted development for the TNets.
O’Riain is the latest senior programming executive to leave the TNets following the Discovery-WarnerMedia merger as WarnerMedia’s ad-supported entertainment linear networks became one of the first cost-saving targets for the new regime. O’Riain’s departure follows those of Brett Weitz, General Manager Of TNT, TBS & truTV, and Corie Henson, EVP, Head of Unscripted for TBS, TNT and truTV. There also has been a culling of TNets’ original series slate, both on the scripted and unscripted side, with the networks ceasing new scripted development.
Staying on are Sam Linsky, Associate General Manager and SVP, Programming and Operations, TBS, TNT, and truTV, who had been co-head of original programming alongside O’Riain; Lauren Paget, VP, Original Programming at TBS,...

Exclusive: Kill the Orange-Faced Bear starring Damon Wayans Jr. will not be going forward at TBS. The cast and crew were just told about the decision, which comes a week before the comedy series was scheduled to begin production on its 10-episode order in Vancouver. I hear the project, which has a filmed pilot, will be shopped to other outlets by the producers.
This marks the first major decision to kill a WarnerMedia entertainment project following the completion of Discovery’s acquisition. It follows the new leadership’s recent move to swiftly pull the plug on CNN+ after just weeks of operation. Warner Bros. Discovery has pledged to deliver 3 billion in cost savings from the deal, and the demise of Kill the Orange-Faced Bear is believed to be a business, not a creative decision. The wheels will start turning on Snowpiercer Season 3 on Monday, January 24.
That much we've known for a while now.
TNT on Monday dropped a more extensive look at the new season than before in the form of an extended trailer.
There's hope for a future beyond the train, but there's no telling whether everyone will make it as the power struggle between Layton (Daveed Diggs) and Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean) heats up.
According to TNT, this is where we left off on Snowpiercer Season 2:
At the end of Snowpiercer S2, Layton and Ruth (Alison Wright), who were banished to Big Alice’s compost car, plotted to take back Snowpiercer.
With the help of Javier (Roberto Urbina) and Alexandra, Layton and Ruth made it back to Snowpiercer and rallied with their supporters.
Josie (Katie McGuinness) destroyed the Aquarium car, separating Snowpiercer’s head from the remaining 1,023 cars. S3 picks up...

Series co-creator/executive producer Matt Weitzman and executive producer Brian Boyle have signed new deals to continue as showrunners. Season 17th season of American Dad!, from 20th Television Animation, premieres Jan. 24, on TBS.
“American Dad! is reaching rarified air with 18th and 19th season pickups that only a handful of shows have ever accomplished; this speaks to the zeitgeisty humor that resonates with audiences, and to the dedication of its creators and brilliant TBS network executives,” said Adrienne O’Riain and Sam Linsky, Co-Heads of Scripted Programming, TBS, TNT, truTV.
The series, which was picked up by TBS following its cancellation by Fox, has been a cornerstone of the TNet’s animation strategy, with a slew of new projects in the pipeline. It currently ranks as the #3 comedy on cable.

Snowpiercer will hit the tracks again in 2022.
TNT announced Wednesday the third season of the post-apocalyptic drama will launch Monday, January 24, 2022.
News of a premiere date comes months after it was revealed the show would be returning for a fourth season.
While many shows don't know their fate until late in the game, TNT has been vocal about its support of the series by picking it up for very early additional seasons.
“Snowpiercer has been an incredibly successful series for us that continues to capture the imagination of viewers, grow audience and maintain strong ratings,” said Sam Linsky and Adrienne O’Riain, co-heads of scripted original programming for TBS, TNT, and truTV earlier this year when the show was picked up.
“All of our seasons embark on an emotional, unexpected ride, and the well-plotted storylines will continue to evolve and remain relevant to audiences. We’re excited to keep the train running into season four.

TNT’s postapocalyptic sci-fi drama Snowpiercer has extended its streak of early renewals with a Season 4 pickup.
All have come ahead of the premiere the previous season; Season 4 marks the earliest renewal, which is done as Season 3 wraps up filming. (I hear the pickup decision was quietly made last month but made official now.) Star Daveed Diggs made the renewal announcement on the set of the show at the tail end of production — you can see it below.
Produced by Tomorrow Studios, Snowpiercer Seasons 1 and 2 are available on the TNT app, with Season 3 set to premiere on TNT early next year. With Animal Kingdom and Claws coming to an end, Snowpiercer is the only remaining ongoing scripted series on the Turner network.
Snowpiercer premiered as the No 1 new scripted drama on all of ad-supported cable in 2020. The second season reached 21 million viewers across linear and digital in L+7 viewing, ranking as a Top 5 cable drama.

All Elite Wrestling’s “Aew: Dynamite” is moving from TNT Wednesdays to TBS Wednesdays in January 2022, Turner announced this morning. The move opens the (ice rink) door for NHL action to air Wednesday nights on TNT — Turner acquired some pro hockey rights for next season — but that’s not the only reason for it, Brett Weitz told TheWrap.
“Sure, NHL had something to do with it,” the TNT, TBS and TruTV boss told us. “The NBA had something to do with it. The new college schedule, with a ton of preemptions. Nasim Pedrad’s “Chad” had its formal premiere on Tuesday to nearly 700,000 total viewers, according to TBS.
The comedy, which stars the “Saturday Night Live” alum as a 14-year-old boy, currently stands as the year’s top-rated scripted comedy series on cable, thanks to a sneak peek after the Syracuse-Houston NCAA game last month.
In total, the premiere episode was watched by 1.9 million viewers across the two airings, with 765,000 in the coveted 18-49 demographic.
