Charlie Worsham has been playing the long game for over a decade, and he’s finally poised to cash in with an all-star duets project he’s calling Compadres. Released this week, the five-song EP features collabs with A-listers Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Elle King, Dierks Bentley, and Kip Moore.
But before he was able to create Compadres, Worsham, 38, had to make peace with a now 10-year-old ghost. Back in 2013, the Mississippi native released Rubberband, his major-label Nashville debut. It failed to crack the Top 10 on the country albums chart,...

Brothers Osborne live it up every way they can in “Sun Ain’t Even Gone Down Yet,” a bright and boisterous track from their upcoming self-titled album, out September 15.
On the tune, singer Tj Osborne paints a hard-partying picture of drinking hard and living fast over a funky-tonk backdrop of guitars and thwapping drums. Then he and his guitarist brother John join their voices to finish the tableau: “If a cold libation’s any indication, we’re gonna have a hell of a night,” they sing. “The day’s about...

Chris Shiflett, guitarist for Foo Fighters, will drop his next solo effort, Lost at Sea, on Oct. 20 via Blue Élan Records. The musician teased the 10-track LP with a new single, “Damage Control,” which he has described as “Ska-mericana.” Shiflett also released a video for the track, which was filmed during his recent U.K. tour.

Origins is a recurring series giving artists a space to break down everything that went into their latest release. Today, Chris Shiflett takes us through “Damage Control,” the latest single from his upcoming album, Lost at Sea.
Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett has revealed his newest solo record, Lost at Sea, will be out October 20th via Blue Élan Records. Along with the announcement, Consequence is exclusively premiering his new single, “Damage Control.”
Lost at Sea was recorded primarily in Nashville with producer Jaren Johnston of the Cadillac Three. Other collaborators on the album include fellow guitarists Charlie Worsham, Tom Bukovac, and Nathan Keeterle. See the artwork and tracklist below.
Featuring a laidback tone, shuffling rhythm section, and country rock embellishments, Shiflett has affectionally dubbed “Damage Control” as “Ska-mericana.” An amalgamation of the songwriter’s stylistic interests, Shifflet points to acts like The Clash as one of the primary influences...

While technically a CMA Fest event, the Cadillac Three delivered a gritty and often improvised alternative to the highly produced TV taping going on across the river at Nissan Stadium on Friday night. During their concise, stout headlining set at Ascend Amphitheater — dubbed “The Cadillac Three & Friends” — the Nashville trio incorporated a horn section, added Charlie Worsham as second guitarist, and leaned into the “& Friends” part of the billing by performing a pair of songs with Little Big Town and Elvie Shane.

Grief is a weird thing, frequently and unexpectedly rocketing toward you with enough power to alter your worldview, make you feel as if you’re drowning, and even see people who are no longer there. That’s been the experience of the Cadillac Three’s singer-guitarist Jaren Johnston, who lost his father, the musician Jerry Ray Johnston, in 2022, and who wrestles with his life’s shattered sense of stability in “This Town Is a Ghost.”

The Cadillac Three are known for hard-hitting Southern rock and country-funk — “country fuzz,” the trio calls it — but members Jaren Johnston and Neil Mason are looking outside of that box for their new record label. On Thursday, Johnston and Mason announced War Buddha Records, a partnership with Warner Records, and their first signed artist: Rett Madison, a West Virginia singer-songwriter now living and working out of Los Angeles.
Madison, who released the album Pin-Up Daddy in 2021 and recently finished a tour with St. Paul and the Broken Bones, is no stranger to Rolling Stone.

The Cadillac Three enlist Elvie Shane and Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor for the Tennessee-Kentucky collab you didn’t know you needed. “Hillbilly” mixes Secor’s haunting fiddle with the grungy stomp of the Cadillac Three, all propelled by the moonshine drawls of Shane and TC3 singer-guitarist Jaren Johnston.

When Hank Williams Jr. began his music career in the Sixties, he did little to distance himself from the shadow cast by his monumental father. He released albums with titles like Songs My Father Left Me, sang “Your Cheatin’ Heart” and “Hey Good Lookin’” in the same lonesome style, and appeared onstage at the Grand Ole Opry, the very institution that fired his dad in 1952. The pressure to imitate Hank Williams and fill the void left by his untimely death at 29 was great, and it nearly swallowed him whole.

When the ACM Awards announced its nominees for Group of the Year in February, the Cadillac Three found themselves squarely in the hunt. Ten years into their career, the Nashville born-and-raised trio broke new ground in what, for many other artists, has been the most stultifying of years. The Cadillac Three lean into their funky, jammy side for a surprise new album. Arriving Friday, Tabasco & Sweet Tea furthers the inspired jams the Nashville trio explored in select songs on their last album, Country Fuzz.
Over 11 tracks mostly recorded on the band’s bus prior to quarantine, the group celebrates the topics they know best: booze, weed, hot girls, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. But it’s the left-field musical stylings that distinguish this record from TC3’s past four LPs, which were fleshed out by grungy country-rock.

Randy Houser remembers exactly where he was when he decided to throw it all away. Following a string of populist country radio hits, he became fed up with how he was expected to perform them live: shored up with various computerized bells and whistles that were meant to help him compete with his peers and their outsized live shows.
“We were playing along to all these tracks,” Houser says. “I walked out there one day and felt like I was a freaking puppet. I called my manager and said, ‘Take all these damn machines back.

Randy Houser has announced plans to release his new album Magnolia this fall, and with the news comes another song from the singer-songwriter, the thoughtful ballad “No Stone Unturned.”
The 12-track album, which was produced by Keith Gattis and recorded at his studio in East Nashville, derives its title from the nickname of Houser’s home state, Mississippi. Houser, who began his career penning hits like Trace Adkins’ “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,” co-wrote all the songs on Magnolia, with “No Stone Unturned” following “What Whiskey Does” as the second release from the album.

Danielle Bradbery and Thomas Rhett team up on the wistful new duet “Goodbye Summer,” an updated version of Bradbery’s solo tune “Hello Summer.”
It’s a deceptive title, implying blue skies and tan lines along with every other popular country cliché. While those things do hover in the background, the story centers more on an intense, fleeting relationship that evaporates like a mirage when the season is over. “Hello summer, goodbye to my heart,” sings Bradbery, but by the end she’s changed her tune: “Goodbye summer, you tore me apart.

"Everybody wants to know - why would I go country?" Momentum Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for the documentary Steven Tyler: Out on a Limb, a profile of the musician/rock artist known as Steven Tyler. The film is not about Aerosmith, per se, but about Tyler himself and focuses on his new style - country. The synopsis explains it's about him "as he embraces the challenges of shifting gears, both as a solo performer and in a new genre of music." Oh boy. The film features interviews with Steven Tyler, The Loving Mary Band, Slash, Robert Deleo, Jaren Johnston, Starfighters, David Hodges, Chris Destefano, and Nathan Barlowe. And it's directed by a filmmaker who made Aerosmith: Rock for the Rising Sun previously. Even though this is a real doc, it's one of the few I just couldn't care less about, but that's just me. Give it a look.

Danielle Bradbery is getting in the Christmas spirit.
The 21-year-old "Sway" singer stopped by Et's Certified Country set to deliver a stunning, stripped-down rendition of the holiday classic, "O Holy Night."
"I always grew up listening to it and I love hearing all the versions," she says, citing Carrie Underwood's take as one of her favorites. "It's just such a beautiful song."
Bradbery will head home to Houston, Texas, to spend the holiday with her family -- a sweet ending to a huge year for the singer. Four years after winning The Voice and dropping her self-titled debut in 2013, Bradbery released her sophomore album, I Don't Believe We've Met, earlier this month.
"I have been just nonstop, but it's the greatest busy that you could be," she says. "It's been pretty exciting."
While her new LP makes a great stocking stuffer for 2017, Bradbery is open to curating her own collection of holiday tunes in the future...

Danielle Bradbery is holding on to those summer vibes.
The 21-year-old songstress, who won the season four of The Voice on Blake Shelton's team, has teamed up with Et to debut one of her catchy new songs, "Hello Summer," which will feature on her next album. I Don't Believe We've Met is set for release on Dec. 1.
"Hello Summer" was co-written by Thomas Rhett, Rhett Akins, The Cadillac Three's Jaren Johnston and Julian Bunetta in a session originally intended for Rhett's Life Changes album. When Rhett decided not to select it for this project, he contacted Bradbery. The duo have stayed close since touring together in 2015, with Rhett serving as a mentor in recent years.
"He felt like the song could be re-written with female perspective, so I sat down with his dad [Akins] and he re-wrote some of the lyrics to fit my voice," Bradbery says. "Julian agreed to produce it and I'm so proud of how...

The Cadillac Three‘s Jaren Johnston calls the band’s bold statement naming their third album Legacy a sort of “hell yeah!” moment for the trio.
“We went in, just the three of us, no producer, no record label guy telling us what to do and we just did it all on our own,” explains Johnston, 36, of making the album. “It was very old school. We’re extremely proud of what we’ve done and where we’ve gotten just the three of us. It’s pretty unheard of in Nashville for three best friends that went to school together,...

Kip Moore has made a name for himself weaving vignettes of Southern, blue-collar life and love into rollicking country anthems over the course of two stellar albums. Bursting with Mellencamp-style fire and Seger-style romantic meditations, his most recent release, the chest-pounding Wild Ones, dropped to high critical praise and landed on a number of Best of 2015 lists.
But while that set expanded Moore’s live audience enormously — even into far-off markets like Australia and Europe — it struggled to find the same success at country radio as his 2012 debut Up All Night, which notched...

The first No. 1 single is a celebrated milestone for any artist, but for Frankie Ballard, the second one is even sweeter.
"It's so exciting to have your first No. 1 song and you're like, 'Wow,' I just can't believe this is actually happening,' [but] there's a little voice in the back of your head that's like, 'What if this is the only time I'm ever going to get to experience this?'"

After opening for acts like Kenny Chesney and Lady Antebellum, Ballard broke out on country radio with "Helluva Life" in 2014. The song became his first bona fide hit single and went all the way to No. 1 on the country charts. When "Sunshine & Whiskey" followed suit months later, Ballard breathed a huge sigh of relief.
