It was all the way back in 2006 that Jack Black and director Jared Hess hooked up for the first time to make the Mexican wrestling-inspired comedy Nacho Libre, and nine years later, they're set to reunite. Both are now attached to make a new project called Micronations, which has quite the interesting logline. The Hollywood Reporter got word of this project out of the ongoing Cannes Film Market, saying that the project is based on a script by New Girl writers Robert Snow and Christian Magalhaes. Described as being about a world of "do-it-yourself-countries," the movie follows a group of individuals who have decided to declare that their own land is an independent nation. Jack Black's character lives in the country of Valoria - said to have a population of 12 - and serves as the head of defense. The plot moves forward as he is drawn into one war...

The last time Jack Black and Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess worked together, the result was Nacho Libre. They’ve decided to reunite for a new comedy called Micronations. Written by Robert Snow and Christian Magalhaes, whose day job is crafting lines for the sitcom New Girl, the script follows eccentrics and weirdoes deciding to secede their backyards from the rest of the world and declaring them sovereign nations. Black will be a loveable type who ends up becoming the Head of Defence for the nation of Valoria (population: 12), which thrusts him into overblown combat with the neighbouring Wayne County, Nevada.“Once I learned that there were people within the United States who have created their very own countries, I knew I had to make a movie about them,” said Hess in a statement. “Jack and I have been looking for another project to team up on, and the hilarious...

Jack Black is reteaming with his Nacho Libre director Jared Hess for Micronations, which will peer inside the bizarre world of “do-it-yourself” countries.
The comedy, which boasts a screenplay by New Girl scribes Robert Snow and Christian Magalhaes, centers on the weirdos and wackjobs who reside in backyards that they’ve declared to be sovereign. Black is playing a lovable oddball appointed the head of defense for the 12-person nation of Valoria, which is at war with a neighboring country.
Hess, who directed Napoleon Dynamite and the upcoming Masterminds, released an official statement:

I'm gonna make a bold statement: not only is "Nacho Libre" absolutely hilarious and surprisingly moving, but it's better than "Napoleon Dynamite." Take me to task in the comments section if you want, but I'll stick to my guns. Consequently, I'm hopeful for a reunion between the film's star and director. Variety reports that Jack Black and Jared Hess will reteam for "Micronations." Robert Snow and Christian Magalhaes ("New Girl") have penned the script for a film which finds one man defending his Diy "country" Valoria (total population: 12) against Wayne County, Nevada. Apparently, this assortment of self-declared and super tiny nations within the United States is a real thing, and I have to say it's a pretty inspired setting for a comedy, and Paramount seems to think so, as the studio is backing the movie. Yet Hess has hit a slight skid recently. "Gentleman Broncos" flopped, "Don Verdean" didn't get.

Clinton Moisey (Fran Kranz), the man-child in Murder of a Cat, calls his sleuthing alter ego Doghouse Reilly, after Philip Marlowe's jokey alias in The Big Sleep. This choice sums up the tone of Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow's screenplay (on the 2010 Black List), which sprinkles hard-boiled detective jargon onto a comic mystery that mostly reveals Clinton's obliviousness to the world outside his mother's basement. Director Gillian Greene's debut feature plays up these elements with Deborah Lurie's full-throttle film noir score, but she never gets heavy-handed, even when things take a dangerous turn. The death of his beloved Mouser (played by a cat named Bogart) triggers Clinton to leave his comfort zone and begin investigating, albeit in a bathrobe instead of a tre...

Some independent movies are worth seeking out. Others remain obscure and hidden for a reason, and that seems to be why we haven't heard anything about Murder of a Cat, an indie comedy starring Cabin in the Woods scene stealer Fran Kranz along with an interesting mix of supporting players. The film follows a harmless oddball who is thoroughly upset that someone has just murdered his best friend, a cat named Mouser. J.K. Simmons is the investigating officer, and he soon learns that the cat was seemingly leading a double life. Yeah, it's about as stupid as it sounds. Pretty much everyone in this movie is better than this. Here's the trailer for Gillian Greene's Murder of a Cat, originally from Apple: Murder of a Cat marks the feature directorial debut of Gillian Greene, working from a script by Robert Snow & Christian Magalhaes (both of the series"New Girl"). History has taught us that the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) doesn't look too kindly on films with extreme, graphic violence and sexuality, so it came as no surprise, really, when news surfaced that "The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence)" has been officially banned in the UK. This means that the board has refused to give the film a classification, making it illegal to distribute.

King Kong may have plunged off the Empire State Building - in each of the film adaptations so far - but there's still life in the old beast yet.
Twentieth Century Fox's cartoon division is aiming to create a "modern-day twist" on the classic tale, according to Deadline.
Fox Animation has hired Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to write a new animated feature told from the ape's viewpoint.
It's not the only reimagining in the pipeline. Back in July 2009, Spirit Pictures picked up rights to the Dark Horse book Kong: King of Skull Island.
Created by illustrator Joe DeVito and fantasy writer Brad Strickland, the novel explained that following Kong's death, both the ape's body and showman Carl Denham (who brought the beast to America) vanished before any investigation could be launched.
A quarter of a century later, in 1957, Denham's son Vincent stumbles upon the Skull Island map, contacts Jack...

What is Hollywood’s fascintion with monkeys? Seriously? It started with the 1933 original movie, followed by a 1966 TV series, the 1976 “King Kong” and the latest version of “King Kong” in 2005 that was directed by Peter Jackson. On top of that, there’s all those “Planet of the Apes” movies including the August release of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” although that one does look good so I’m not hating on monkeys at all. They’re cute little creatures I just don’t get the Hollywood love affair. It’s not like we see a bunch of movies about giraffes or tigers for that matter. But anyway, Deadline says that an animated version of “King Kong” will be released by Fox Animation with Christian Magalhaes & Bob Snow taking on the writing duties. The film will be from the vantage point of Kong which should be interesting I guess...

Greeting, you festering maggots. Here's some news to prevent you from realizing what pathetic, pitiful cretins you really are.
Apparently, in the wake of the coming (shut up, it makes sense) Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes Rotpota, apes are in. And as such, the studio that loves to destroy the things we love has planned to move on our newfound monkey love (that came out weird, didn't it. And yes, I know apes aren't monkeys. Shut up). Anyway, Fox has decided to "update" King Kong, and has drafted Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to pen "a modern day twist" on the big lug. Not much else in the way of details is available, except that it'll be animated. Yes, I said animated. Anyone wanna place bets as to whether or not it'll be in 3D? Drink up, kids. Until they make a Gorilla Grodd movie, I ain't fucking interested.

Given that even a filmmaker as accomplished as Peter Jackson appeared to stumble slightly when tackling King Kong, directors and studios would be forgiven from staying away from the great ape. But that isn’t scaring 20th Century Fox Animation, which is planning a new, animated take on Skull Island’s most famous resident. The studio has hired writers Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to kick off work on the ‘toon’s script, which will not only update the story to the modern day, but tell the tale from Kong’s point of view. No, really: if this thing makes it to screens, we’ll be treated to the big K explaining how he feels about his treatment and, assuming they keep to the big finish, still taking a dive from the top of the Empire State Building. Could be a bit of a downer for the kids. No pun intended,...

From the looks of things, Fox must really think monkeys are the secret to success. Not only do they have Rise of the Planet of the Apes coming out later this summer, but now they are giving the greenlight to a new version of King Kong - this time in animated form. Of course, there have been a few different versions of the classic film made over the years using various methods of portraying the giant ape, with the most recent example being Peter Jackson's retelling back in 2005. This film will offer a new take on the material, however, as it will be told from Kong's perspective and will also be set in modern day. Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow, who recently had a script featured on the Black List called Murder of a Cat, will handle the story duties. There's no other information provided on the story or...

Classic movie monster King Kong has enjoyed numerous big-screen remakes and adaptations but Fox Animation promised to distinguish its latest King Kong movie by telling the story from the great ape’s perspective. According to Deadline, Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow signed on to script a story from the vantage point of King Kong. Magalhaes and Snow recently wrote the spec script Murder of a Cat, which made the Black List as one of the best un-produced scripts. Shawn Levy came aboard the project as producer via his 21 Laps shingle joining Ted Fields of Radar Pictures.

Megaprimatus Kong is going to tell his side of the story because Fox Animation has set Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to write a modern day twist on the King Kong script by Mike Weber.
Well, it will be animated feature and will tell the legend set in contemporary time from the position that affords a broad overall view of the ape. Extra!

Even though Peter Jackson’s King Kong was animated enough for most, Fox Animation is wanting to get a fully animated retelling of the classic 1933 film together, says Deadline. Not much else is known, except for the direction of the film, which will be told through Kong’s perspective, rather than Anne’s.
The studio has tapped screenwriters Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to do the film, but can they make an accessible family film, based off of a socially themed monster movie that does not have a happy ending?...

The original 1933 King Kong has been remade with almost every different film technology imaginable. The 1976 Jeff Bridges film used mechanical creature effects intercut with a man in a suit. In 2005, Peter Jackson created the gorilla with motion capture computer graphics. Now, the character goes back to the drawing board in more ways than one. Fox Animation has hired Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow to write "a modern day twist" on the King Kong story that will be fully animated and told from the gorilla's point of view. Deadline broke [1] the news of this proposed film, which is based on a story by Mike Weber and produced by Shawn Levy's 21 Laps and Ted Field's Radar Pictures. There's no information beyond that but saying it'll be animated and from Kong's point of view seems to tease that this will be a less violent, more family-friendly version, maybe with a talking Kong.

The obsession with our hairy ancestors seems to know no end. With huge hits like “Curious George,” “Dunston Checks In,” “Mighty Joe Young,” and Tim Burton’s magnum opus rehashing of “Planet of the Apes,” it makes perfect sense that the studios keep pumping out primate pictures.
With “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” set to release in August, 20th Century Fox is now turning its attention to the animation department, where Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow are charged with the task of telling the story of King Kong through the perspective of, well, Kong himself. (via Deadline)
I’m looking forward to getting an in depth view into the psychological state of the hopelessly romantic gorilla, who wanted nothing more than to provide a good view for the woman he loved.

Fox is jumping feet first into the monkey business. This summer they have the awkwardly named Rise of the Planet of the Apes headed for theaters and now they.ve started work on a new simian themed film project. Or maybe I should say an old one, since what they.re doing is repurposing King Kong, yet again. The twist this time is that Kong will be animated. Deadline says Fox Animation has hired Christian Magalhaes & Bob Snow to write the script, based on a story invented by Mike Weber, which will be set in the modern day and tell the classic giant monkey run-amok in the big city tale entirely from the perspective of King Kong. Smells like talking monkey time, to me. No official word yet on whether the monkey will talk, but Magalhaes & Snow are reportedly actually pretty good screenwriters, so there's hope here. They haven.t...

The story of King Kong is one of the most famous in cinematic history, with the 1933 original inspiring multiple sequels and remakes, the most famous of which likely being Peter Jackson‘s 2005 take on the material. The story isn’t going away anytime soon, as Deadline is reporting that Fox Animation plans to take it and give the tale a “modern day twist.”
Being written by Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow, the animated movie will tell things from the perspective of the ape. That’s never really been done with the character, unless you count the more “romantic” scenes from Jackson‘s film as falling into that category. Whether or not it’ll have any humans in it hasn’t been made clear, but I find it difficult to imagine this story without the explorers of Skull Island present. It’s being produced by Shawn Levy‘s production company 21 Laps,...

Fox Animation is developing a new take on the King Kong story, according to Deadline. This makes sense, since 20th Century Fox is already dealing with some awesome vfx for Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The script will be written by Christian Magalhaes and Bob Snow. The story will be a modern day twist on the legendary primate. The project is being produced by Shawn Levy's 21 Laps along with Ted Field's Radar Pictures.
The film will be animated, and will tell the story from the vantage point of the ape. This is a nice change from the original story in my mind. I would have hated being enslaved and forced to perform and not being able to tell my captors no. No wonder he climbs up the Empire State building. This sounds like a cool concept, what are your thoughts?...

Exclusive: Rise of the Planet of the Apes isn't the only case where a film division at 20th Century Fox is monkeying around with a primate picture. Fox Animation has set the team of Christian Magalhaes & Bob Snow to write a modern day twist on the King Kong story. It will be animated, and will tell the story from the vantage point of the ape. It's an interesting take on the material, because let's face it, Kong got a bum deal and had no way to verbally complain about it. Shawn Levy's 21 Laps will produce with Ted Field's Radar Pictures. Magalhaes & Snow's recent spec script Murder of a Cat made the Black List and is in the process of being set up. Gersh reps the scribes.

The classic tale -- last brought to the silver screen by director Peter Jackson and Universal Pictures in 2005 -- is looking to be retold again, but this time in a different fashion and perspective. King Kong, last seen in the 2005 rendition from Peter Jackson, will get a revamp of sorts with a new animated film. The story will be told from Kong's point of view himself. Fox Animation (Ice Age, Rio) has tapped relative unknowns Christian Magalhaes & Bob Snow for the screenplay based off an already written story from Mike Weber. The iconic character started on film with the 1933 classic and had two remakes with a 1975 version starring Jeff Bridges and the Jackson version. Along with those, some lower budgeted sequels and knockoffs plus a showdown with Godzilla in 1963 have kept the...

20th Century Fox is developing an animated take on the 1933 classic King Kong , Deadline reports. Said to be an modern re-telling of the "beauty and the beast" tale and told from Kong's point of view, Christian Magalhaes and Robert Snow (who previously teamed for a short entitled "Bunny," directed by Snow) are attached to draft the project with Shawn Levy's company, 21 Laps, producing. Mike Weber, who holds the story credit, is also producing. Since the Merian C. Cooper-produced original, King Kong has been remade or reimagined several times over, including in a direct sequel (also released in 1933) entitled Son of Kong . Two remakes were also done, one in 1976 (with a 1986 sequel King Kong Lives ) and, more recently, a 2005 version directed by Peter...
