Embankment Films has landed a miners’ strike feature and an ITV doc on a drug that could treat dwarfism.
Strike: An Uncivil War will be released 18 June, telling the story of the Battle of Orgreave, one of the most violent confrontations between miners and police during the 1984 labor action.
Directed by award-winner Daniel Gordon (Hillsborough), the movie will use powerful personal testimony and previously hidden government documents to describe a conflict that cut right to the heart of Britain’s social and political consciousness – a clash that encompassed class, community, masculinity, the role of women, relationships, marriage and family. The strike turns 40 this year and a number of shows for local broadcasters have also been ordered to commemorate. Gordon’s Verymuchso and Embankment are producing and Rainmaker Content is distributing.
Rainmaker is also selling ITV’s Dwarf Story [working title] from Grierson-nominee Riccardo Servini (A Space in Time).
The one-hour special follows three young people from America,...

Former “Love Island” presenter Laura Whitmore is tackling some controversial issues in her new show for U.K. streamer Itvx.
The three-part series “Laura Whitmore Investigates” sees Whitmore travel within the U.K., Europe and the U.S. In one episode, Whitmore investigates toxic masculinity with a focus on the subculture of involuntary celibates, or incels, a male-dominated, misogynistic online world where alienated males who struggle to engage with women share their anti-female mindsets, developing communities around their resentment.
Another episode explores how changing attitudes to sex in Britain have seen Bdsm become a multi-billion industry with more and more people experimenting, particularly with the act of choking during sex. The episode examines the influence of pornography as well as looking into the rise of the so-called “50 Shades” defense, whereby men accused of murdering their sexual partner claim the death was caused by rough sex that went wrong.

Restructuring
Multinational cinema operator Cineworld‘s proposed restructuring now has the backing of most of its lenders, the company said on Thursday.
The restructuring, which was announced in April, “now has the support of lenders holding and controlling approximately 99% of the legacy facilities and at least 69% of the outstanding indebtedness under the debtor-in-possession facility of Cineworld and certain of its subsidiaries,” the group said in a statement.
Cineworld Group and its subsidiaries had commenced Chapter 11 cases in the United States Bankruptcy Court in September 2022. The group now expects to emerge from the Chapter 11 cases in July and will continue to operate its cinemas as usual without interruption, it said.
The lenders have also agreed to amended and restated versions of the restructuring support agreement and the backstop commitment agreement, which were filed with the United States Bankruptcy Court.
Cineworld owns the Regal cinema chain and is the second largest movie theater operator in the world.

Tennis star Boris Becker’s journey from world champion to ending up in jail is to be told in a documentary series for ITV’s new streamer Itvx.
The Rise and Fall of Boris Becker [working title] will feature exclusive interviews with some of those who knew the Wimbledon champion best and other tennis greats, as well as showing old family archive.
Becker, who broke through as a 17-year-old and subsequently became Wimbledon’s youngest ever tennis champion, was jailed for two-and-a-half years earlier this year for concealing £2.5M (2.8M) of assets to avoid paying money he owed after becoming bankrupt. When his sentence ends, he will likely be deported.
“Boris Becker’s story covers a truly astonishing path – coming from nowhere to reach the peak of Wimbledon at a breathtakingly young age, to finding himself in middle-age in a place he must never have imagined he could end up: prison,” said ITV Factual Controller Jo Clinton-Davis.

U.K. TV giant ITV will launch its new streaming service Itvx in November to attract more overall viewers for its content, managing director, media and entertainment Kevin Lygo told a TV industry event on Wednesday. He also credited the “extraordinary success” of fellow reality TV series Love Island as a key driver behind the decision to reboot reality hit Big Brother.
ITV had previously only said that it would debut Itvx in the fourth quarter as a free, advertising-funded streaming service, with Lygo in his appearance now mentioning November as the launch month. It will feature all of ITV’s programming along with content acquisitions, including from the U.S. and including films, he said. A new exclusive programming event will drop on the streamer regularly, starting with espionage drama A Spy Among Friends, starring Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce.

When the invite first came through inviting me to Buckingham Palace, I feared the worst. Obviously, I thought, the palace was angry at the recent controversy caused by my panel on The Crown or they’d discovered my teenage love of the Sex Pistols and were planning to send me to the Tower.
However, it turned out I had been invited to watch a documentary about the Queen’s latest environmental campaign including a landmark interview between Her Royal Majesty and Planet Earth’s David Attenborough in the palace gardens.
The ITV documentary, The Queen’s Green Planet, which is produced by ITN Productions, features a conversation between “two of the most consummate professionals on the planet” discussing the 1,400 trees planted in the Buckingham Palace gardens as well as the monarch’s new initiative to create a vast network of native forests across Britain and the Commonwealth – the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy.
