- He wrote three books: Elephants in Your Mailbox (1980), Living in Style (1981) and with his daughter Sally Horchow, The Art of Friendship (2006).
- From the proceeds of his sale of the Horchow Collection to Neiman Marcus, he launched his career as a Broadway producer starting with Crazy for You. He followed that with Kiss Me, Kate, Curtains, the revivals of Gypsy in 2008 and Annie in 2012 and ended his Broadway producing career with Bandstand in 2017.

- He was an investor in the Broadway plays Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, The Book of Mormon and Hamilton.
- Stanley Marcus (of Neiman Marcus) was his mentor. In 1960 he joined Neiman Marcus as a china, glass and gift buyer.
- Mother was a concert pianist.
- After his military service he began he career as a buyer for the Foley's department store chain in Houston from 1953-60.
- Served on the boards of the Dallas Museum of Art, Yale University Art Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum.
- Graduated from Yale in 1950.
