The 2022-2023 season was a very good time to be a Netflix subscriber. Returning favorites like “Stranger Things” shattered viewership records for the streaming giant, while new projects like “Wednesday” and “Beef” proved that audiences are ready to embrace the company’s next big hit.
At IndieWire’s Consider This Event in Los Angeles on Saturday, post-production artists from some of Netflix’s biggest shows got together to discuss the craftsmanship that goes into making our favorite television. The panel, moderated by IndieWire’s Jim Hemphill, featured “Stranger Things” re-recording mixer/supervising sound editor Craig Henighan, “Beef” editor Laura Zempel and composer Bobby Krlic, and “Wednesday” composer Danny Elfman, co-composer Chris Bacon, and music supervisor Jen Malone.

Netflix‘s Wednesday is a chart-topping cultural milestone. However, greatness often comes at a cost, and in the case of Wednesday, the filming schedule brought the star of the series, Jenna Ortega, through the emotional wringer. At a Netflix-hosted Q&a panel in Hollywood on Thursday, Ortega detailed the distressing details about her filming schedule for Wednesday and how the routine sent her into hysterics.
“It was show up to set two hours early, do that 12-14 hour day, then go home and then get on a Zoom and have whatever lesson that I had. Or show up to my apartment, my cello teacher was already waiting for me,” Ortega recalled. “It was just constantly going, and if you could on a weekend, if we weren’t shooting the sixth day that week, it was ‘All right, well then, we’ll get your lessons in on that day.'”

Sunday night’s emotional “The Last of Us” episode titled “Long Long Time,” which featured the 1970 Linda Ronstadt song of the same name, had fans in tears – and hitting up streaming services to download the song about unrequited love.
In one scene, zombie apocalypse survivor Frank (Murray Bartlett) chooses “The Best of Linda Ronstadt” sheet music to play after being rescued by Bill (Nick Offerman), whose rendition of the song expresses his own loneliness. They then share their first kiss.
On Monday afternoon, the song had hit No. 5 on iTunes’ Top 100 Songs chart. It was written by Gary White and released as a single from her 1970 album “Silk Purse” and peaked at No. 25 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary” recently made its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart thanks to a boom in popularity because of Netflix’s “Wednesday.” But what about getting Gaga to star in the second season of the streamer’s Addams Family smash hit? “I’m sure Netflix would love that,” leading star Jenna Ortega told Variety during the Official Digital Pre-Show for the Golden Globes.
A dance scene featured in “Wednesday” Episode 4 exploded on TikTok once it got remixed to Gaga’s “Bloody Mary.” Millions of TikTok users re-created Ortega’s trademark dance and set it to Gaga’s song. In the show, the scene is set to “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps. The TikTok trend boosted the popularity of Gaga’s “Bloody Mary” so much that Gaga herself recreated Ortega’s dance on the social media platform.
“It’s really strange,” Ortega said about Gaga getting in on the “Wednesday” TikTok craze.

Netflix has officially confirmed Wednesday will return for season two. The announcement was accompanied by a one-minute video in which Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) says thanks for being put through pure torture. (We all know how much Wednesday loves that!).
The video points out that over the course of a few weeks, she was hunted, haunted, and mimicked across the internet. Wednesday’s loving it and so are viewers who’ve made the series the second most popular show ever on Netflix.
“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world. Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first,” said creators, showrunners, and executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar in a feature on Tudum.

Tim Burton’s Wednesday is not stopping from taking the world by storm. The creepy and kooky series already banked big numbers for Netflix the week of its debut, but those numbers are growing, and we’re here to celebrate. Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega as the macabre detective of the Addams family, has officially become the third title to surpass 1 billion hours viewed on Netflix during its first month. To put things into perspective, the only other shows to achieve this milestone are Squid Game and Stranger Things. These numbers also mean that Wednesday has overtaken Ryan Murphy’s Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story as Netflix’s second-most popular English-language series of all time.
The popularity of Time Burton’s Wednesday is nothing short of sensational. If you dabble in social media spaces, you’re likely aware of the show going viral thanks partly to a dance routine choreographed by Jenna Ortega.

Mother Monster has seen the TikToks, and she's here to show us how it's done. On Dec. 8, Lady Gaga re-created Jenna Ortega's viral dance from the Netflix series "Wednesday," dancing to the tune of her own 2011 track "Bloody Mary." In the black-and-white clip, Gaga applies theatrical makeup and quickly pulls on a pair of plaid knee-high socks and her interpretation of a school uniform before stepping into frame with a very Wednesday Addams-style braided hairstyle and beginning to dance. "Bloody Wednesday," Gaga captioned the TikTok.
The dance sequence in the series was originally set to "Goo Goo Muck" by The Cramps. Ortega, the show's eponymous star, said her choreography was inspired by "archival footage of goths dancing in clubs in the '80s," as well as Siouxsie Sioux and Bob Fosse's "Rich Man's Frug." The scene eventually made the rounds on TikTok, where...

In “Woe is the Night,” the fourth episode of Netflix’s latest smash-hit series “Wednesday,” star Jenna Ortega birthed the latest dance craze with a scene in which she boogies down to “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps. But while the scene has since gone viral on TikTok, filming it was a terrible experience for Ortega, who tested positive for Covid almost immediately afterwards.
In an interview with NME released ahead of the whole sensation, Ortega said that she woke up the day the scene was filmed feeling extremely sick. Production had her shoot the dance while awaiting her Covid results.
“It’s crazy because it was my first day with Covid so it was awful to film,” Ortega said. “I woke up and – it’s weird, I never get sick, and when I do, it’s not very bad – I had the body aches. I felt like I’d...

For me, the sounds of The Cramps song “Goo Goo Muck” will always be indelibly linked to imagery from director Tobe Hooper’s 1986 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 – but I still think it’s pretty cool that the song happened to be featured in the Addams Family series Wednesday, which just made its debut on the Netflix streaming service last week. “Goo Goo Muck” is the soundtrack to a very popular moment from the show, where title character Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega, dances to the song. A dance that Ortega choreographed herself. You can watch this dance scene in the embed above.
At the bottom of this article, you can also see a video of the Wednesday cast reacting to the dance scene clip. Ortega said the dance makes it clear that she’s neither a dancer or a choreographer, but according to Yahoo she has also...

Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar with episodes directed by Tim Burton, James Marshall and Gandja Morteiro, “Wednesday” on Netflix contains all kinds of creepy and not so creepy music, with contributions by Chris Bacon and themes by Danny Elfman. But it’s also packed with popular songs.
From classic guitar-shred anthems like The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It, Black” to Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters,” to more modern pop songs like Dua Lipa’s “Physical,” the “Wednesday” soundtrack is eclectic to say the least. Certain sonic touches take place with the help of Wednesday’s cello, which she plays fiercely. She also has a phonograph in her room on which she plays scratchy and staticky records.
Wednesday’s latina roots are also honored with songs like “La Llorona,” “Tierra Rica” and more, with some haunting operas sprinkled throughout.

Netflix’s “Stranger Things” was known for its nostalgic needle drops before the most recent season, but Season 4 catapulted the show’s soundtrack to a whole new level by putting Kate Bush back at the top of the charts decades after “Running Up That Hill” was first released.
But the “Stranger Things” Season 4 Volume 2 soundtrack isn’t without its own standout musical moments — including, yes, more Kate Bush.
The trailer for Season 4 features a remix of Journey’s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” which forecasts the impending sense of doom that comes with the latest, darkest installment of the Netflix tentpole, which contrasts very sharply with the use of Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home” and The Who’s “Baba O’Reily” in the trailer for summer-y Season 3. Even the upbeat duet of “Never Ending Story” solidifies the long distance relationship between Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Suzie Bingham (Gabriela Pizzolo).

Perhaps you’d heard but a fresh season of a little show called Stranger Things just arrived on Netflix’s servers. There are always plenty of reasons to get excited about new episodes of Stranger Things, and the seven new episodes presented in season 4 volume 1 are no different.
Operating under an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mantra, Stranger Things season 4 is absolutely packed with ’80s-set science fiction, horror, and adventure. Once again, our heroic kids from Hawkins must confront a mystery from the Upside Down. In this case, who is this demonic wizard Vecna and why is he so hopelessly addicted to breaking human bodies?
In addition to all of the usual fun plotting though, a new season of Stranger Things means a new batch of old music. Though creators The Duffer Brothers were born in 1984 and probably don’t remember a hell of a lot of the 1980s,...

As evidenced by the meteoric resurgence of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” after its appearance on “Stranger Things 4,” the show’s soundtrack has become just as much a phenomenon as its thrilling plot.
With the final two episodes of Season 4 dropping on Netflix today, Legacy Recordings has released the complete soundtrack to “Stranger Things 4” in digital and physical forms. The album contains six additional songs, including an extended version of Bryce Miller and Alloy Tracks’ remix of Journey’s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),” featuring the band’s singer Steve Perry.
“I was stunned at how cool it was,” Perry said of the original remix in a statement. “I found out that Bryce Miller and Troy MacCubbin had created it and told them how much I loved it. One week later, I had an idea for an extended version, so I called Bryce and we assembled our extended remix.
