Games, gags, hidden treasures, extra films and clips of the director cooking aloo gobi … is it any wonder the hashtag #DVDmenu has 15m views? We look back on an explosively creative era
It’s likely that you’ve seen Thomas Fletcher’s work, but it’s also likely that you’ve never thought twice about it. Twenty or so years ago, the designer’s job required him to shove his screaming face through a sheet of latex, create 3D models of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, motion-capture a dancer seductively sauntering across a room and play around with props from the Harry Potter films. But none of this creative and “very, very fun” work ever appeared during the two-hour runtime of a single blockbuster – instead, you saw it when you stuck a disc into your DVD player, before you pressed play.

Do you remember the first time you ever came across a dandelion? Probably not, but little Buzz will. Proud papa Tom Fletcher, a blue-haired singer and guitarist known for performing with bands McFly and McBusted, posted a sweet (and viral) video on YouTube of himself introducing his baby boy to the popular flower—and it's so precious. The clip shows Fletcher carrying Buzz (also, can we just take a moment to appreciate how cute that name is?!) on his back while repeatedly showing his sone what happens when he blows at the florets and sends them flying. Buzz couldn't stop laughing. "This is why being a Dad is awesome. This is the first time my son Buzz has ever seen a dandelion...I think he...

1. The boys really do take tattoo roulette seriously.
We learnt about tattoo roulette in the first episode, but in this one poor Matt - who lost the game after a very, very intense rock, paper, scissors battle - actually got a frog tattooed on his leg. They weren't messing about.
2. Russell Crowe bloody loved Tom Fletcher's wedding song.
Well, we kind of already knew this, but it was lovely to be reminded. Russell saw the wedding video and loved it, telling a reporter: "This man has such a rich internal life... I just think he's incredibly special.

Gary Barlow casually announced his intention to quit The X Factor midway through an assessment of Rough Copy's cover of Phil Collins's 'In The Air Tonight' on Saturday evening, providing a rare flicker of excitement in a weirdly uneventful opening weekend for series 10's Live Shows.
After three years as the head judge on the ITV talent show, the Take That star has decided to hang up his mentoring boots and head back to touring and piano-tinkling as a solo act and with Mark, Howard, Jason (and possibly Robbie).
His track record on the show isn't much of a CV to brag about (Cocozza, The Maloney, Craig bloody Colton), but Barlow's serious-face has been a useful ying to the bonkers yang of Louis Walsh and co.
So who can possibly fill his boots when series 11 (yes 11!) rolls around in 2014? Here are our five best guesses.

"It's quite a selective process, writing for other bands," Tom Fletcher told the Daily Star. "I don't want to write a song for just anyone. "I only do it for people I really like because that's when you do your best work, so I hope the relationship we have with One Direction can continue." (more)...

The group, who release their greatest hits Memory Lane this week, left Universal for their fourth LP Radio:active, which they put out through their own label Super Records. "We left our record label and did this one independently, which was a great experience," Tom Fletcher told Digital Spy. "We really took our time writing and recording it. It was the longest we spent making an album." Dougie Poynter added: "At the time it was the album we wanted all our previous albums to sound like. "The songs were the same as before, but sonically, it's how we wanted it to be. We were in control." Reflecting on their decision to give the album away for free with The Mail on Sunday, Fletcher admitted: (more)...
