I suppose the Hitchhikers‘ ground has been thoroughly salted at this point – I’ve seen the movie; you don’t need to tell me – which is why we’ve gotten two Dirk Gently TV series and these comics over the past decade. But even leaving aside how much Douglas Adams was a writer of voice to begin with, the Dirk books were fun because of the way they were told rather than the vague shaggy-dog stories they told. So doing the same sort of thing in a different medium feels like the wrong next step: the Adams estate would have been better off commissioning someone to write more Dirk novels, I think: assuming anyone could convincingly do that, which is the rub.
Anyway, there is a comics series continuing the Dirk Gently books. This first miniseries, from 2016 – probably not coincidentally the same year as the second, more successful TV show – promises there will be more,...

With Francis Ford Coppola’s decades-in-development passion project Megalopolis recently wrapped after a smooth production, there’s been some speculation that the $100 million epic––starring Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, Db Sweeney, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Bailey Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, James Remar, and Giancarlo Esposito––could see the light of day before the end of the year, but that won’t be the case.
As announced at Wondercon 2023, Popverse reports the Syzygy, the comics publisher, will be releasing a graphic novel tie-in for Megalopolis timed with its release in 2024. Coming from Syzygy co-founder Chris Ryall and artist Jacob Phillips, who were contacted by Coppola, they spent time on set developing this adaptation. “The exciting thing is that I’ve only worked directly with him on this,” Ryall said. “This isn’t the kind of thing...

When Daily Dead took part in a Locke & Key roundtable call earlier this year, co-showrunner (along with Carlton Cuse) Meredith Averill said that they have "...stories for a few seasons to come percolating in our brains...", and it looks like that statement is becoming a reality, because not only was the show renewed for a second season back in March, it's now been renewed for a third season by Netflix before the second season has even premiered.
Multiple outlets are reporting the renewal news, including The Hollywood Reporter, along with the announcement that Meredith Averill has signed a deal with Netflix for "TV and other projects."
Here's what co-showrunner Cuse had to say about the season 3 renewal (via THR):
"We have some incredible adventures in store for the Locke family in season 3, and could not be more excited to continue telling our story with our great partners at Netflix.

So, scanning the new releases for something new to try, this book seemed to jump up into my arms. Those of a certain vintage like me have very fond memories of the Rom, Spaceknight series from Marvel Comics. To this day, I’ve still got about three quarters of the 75 issues run, and if you want to read a book that gives you a perfect snapshot of early 80′s Marvel, that’s the one. Rom, and his main foes the Dire Wraiths basically interacted and came across virtually every Marvel character of the day. Go check the series out, you’ll thank me. But I digress. Idw picked up the publishing rights in 2015, and started publishing a new Rom book, but one that passed me by. Well, I’m happy to take this chance to jump into Idw’s Hasbroverse,...

Netflix dropped the trailer for “Locke & Key” on Wednesday morning, which is the first look at the streaming service’s long-awaited TV adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’ best-selling Idw comic book series about the Locke family and their magical home.
In the trailer, which you can view via the video above and this link, we see the Lockes — mother Nina (Darby Stanchfield) and her children, Bode (Jackson Robert Scott), Tyler (Connor Jessup) and Kinsey (Emilia Jones) — move into Keyhouse, their ancestral home, following the mysterious murder of their father, Rendell (Bill Heck).
It’s not long before the siblings discover the house is filled with magical keys, each with different powers, that could somehow be connected to their dad’s death. That would be cool and all except they also find out that, as Tyler puts it, a “crazy evil” demon is trying to steal them.

Back in April, it was revealed that AMC had ordered a pilot script adaptation of Stephen King and Owen King's Sleeping Beauties, and now Idw Publishing has announced that the 2017 book will also come to life as a comic book series written by Rio Youers with artwork by Alison Sampson.
We have the cover art and full press release below with additional details on the 10-issue Sleeping Beauties comic book series, which is slated to premiere in early 2020 and, like the book, will take place in a world where all of the women have fallen into a deep slumber... and become violent if awoken.

Exclusive: Idw Publishing of San Diego will adapt Sleeping Beauties, the bestselling 2017 novel by Stephen King and Owen King, as a 10-part comic book epic by the international tandem of Canadian novelist Rio Youers (The Forgotten Girl) and London-based artist and architect Alison Sampson (Winnebago Graveyard).
Idw has the series slated for a high-profile launch in early 2020.
Sleeping Beauties is a dark fantasy tale that some critics have framed as an gripping allegory for toxic masculinity and contemporary gender politics in the wake of the #metoo movement. In the story a plague called Aurora (named after Disney’s knackered princess) has left the world’s women in a deep, cocooned slumber that exiles them to their dreams. With Oculus, Hush, and Ouija: Origin of Evil on his recent résumé, director Mike Flanagan is one filmmaker many horror fans are keeping an eye on for a frightening good time at the movies. While Flanagan is currently working on Netflix's film adaptation of Stephen King's Gerald's Game, the director already has his sights set on his next project.
Deadline reports that Flanagan is set to write and direct the sci-fi film Inherit the Earth for Sony. While official plot details for the movie are mostly under wraps at this time, the film is described as focusing on "a servant protector robot who is tasked to protect a young girl."
Deadline mentions that the film's origins come from a "development script" that was created at Columbia Pictures with ties to Ashley Wood and Chris Ryall's Idw comic book series Zombies Vs. Robots. Deadline reported that the comic book...

Sony may currently be working hard at getting the Spider-Man franchise back on its feet, but that’s not the only comic book adaptation that the studio has in the works. According to THR, Sony’s also looking to adapt a lesser-known graphic novel from Idw, titled Zombies vs. Robots.
Unfortunately, the project won’t have that awesome title, and is instead being called Inherit the Earth. Shrek 2 and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe director Andrew Adamson has been attached to helm the project, while Dallas Buyers Club scribe Craig Borten will pen the screenplay.
Zombies vs. Robots, written by Ryall and Ashley Wood, tells the tale of a team of robots who must clone the last surviving human baby and protect it from intelligent zombies. It’s certainly a high-concept project if I’ve ever seen one, and a bit out of Borten’s wheelhouse,...

It’s zombies….in the fuuutuuuure! That the Walkers are arriving en masse from another time stream by way of a portal left open when the nukes fell is the closest it comes to innovating. The zoms are also developing intelligence, which would be novel, but for the fact that George A. Ray Bradbury is a name embedded in the great mythos of science fiction literature. His ability to work through the wide ranges of literature, from novels to short stories, would bring Bradbury to adapt some of his work into the realm of comic books. As explained in the introduction for Shadow Show, Bradbury was fascinated with the fantastic at a very young age, burrowing from his obsession with the newspaper Sunday comics like Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. The pulp writer began in magazines and would eventually make his way to adapting his own stories for EC Comics (through a very interesting exchange with Max Gaines). Pulp Comics!! God, I can’t believe I’m turning into that guy. The sad thing is that I am the proud owner of a trenchcoat that looks exactly like it came out of a detective novel. No, not a creepy Hot Topic black leather duster, I’m talking the real thing, as vintage as you can get without dropping a few grand. Definitely holding on to it in case trenchcoats come back in style. Or the apocalypse happens. Whichever comes first.

While many may still be reeling from Tatiana Maslany’s recent Emmy snub, fans of BBC America’s Orphan Black have something to get excited about as the show makes the jump from the small screen to the pages of comics. A graphic novelisation of hit Canadian sci-fi Orphan Black is on its way from Idw, it's been announced. Chris Ryall, the publisher's editor-in-chief called the show "a captivating TV series" and "a perfect premise for comics", something with which we'd be hard pushed to disagree.
Orphan Black's success grew worldwide by word of mouth (well, by word of typing online) after its initial Canadian run on Space in March 2013. A great deal of its success should be laid at the feet of Tatiana Maslany, the talented actor on whose mercurial performance(s) the premise lives or dies. Not that the Emmy Awards, frustratingly for fans, have taken much notice of that.
Orphan Black is currently prepping its third season and showing no signs whatsoever of slowing down. See the first cover...

Fans of Orphan Black will now see a comic book version of the tale. Idw Publishing announced the news with a target date of release sometime in Spring 2015. The comic book will tell completely new stories instead of retelling or continuing the story that is on TV. They will be working closely with the series producers and writers to keep it as close to the legit side of things as they can. Here is what Idw’s Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall had to say about the new project.
And as the second season has expanded the series in exciting new directions, that has only increased the amount of stories we’ll be able to tell in comic-book form
It seems like a good idea. However, it will be interesting in seeing how this story will parrell with the TV version. Since they desire for it to be 100% new, it will be...
