Though there weren’t many people out there who appreciated Peter Berg’s recent board game cash-in, Battleship, he was generally a well-regarded director before he laid that one on us, so there should still be interest out there for what he’s doing next. Especially since he’s already assembled a fairly impressive cast for it. The film is called Lone Survivor, and it tells the true story of a Navy Seal mission in Afghanistan gone bad, as adapted from the biography of soldier Marcus Luttrell. While on a reconnaissance mission along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, Luttrell and three of his fellow SEALs made a fatal error. After showing a bit of compassion and letting an old man and three boys who came upon them walk away, they soon became victims of a Taliban ambush, which took the lives of every member of the team other than Luttrell, the titular lone survivor. Berg...

“Tracking Shot” is a monthly featurette here on Ioncinema.com that looks at a dozen or so projects that are moments away from lensing and with June being a major production month we’ve got a slew of projects that we feel are worth signaling out. Music appears to be a common narrative theme surrounding several items – we find it infused in Once‘s John Carney’s U.S. production debut – a 10 million dollar production about a dejected music business executive forms a bond with a young singer-songwriter new to Manhattan. Scarlett Johansson was formerly attached to Can a Song Save Your Life?, now Knightley appears to be on board. Chris Diamantopoulos already had been added. We got word back in January that Dakota Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen, Anton Yelchin along with Peter Sarsgaard were set to star in Naomi Foner‘s upcoming project, and now Deadline reports that Demi Moore has joined the cast of Very Good Girls.
Fanning and Olsen are set to play “lifelong best friends in the summer after their high school graduation, both determined to lose their virginity as a rite of passage into the adult world.” As a twist of faith, both girls fall in love with the same boy — lucky Yelchin – and their relationship is tested. As you may have guessed by the age difference, Moore will be playing the role of Olsen‘s mother.
It’s pretty obvious by the synopsis that Moore will only be playing a supporting role to both Fanning and Olsen, which is something I’m completely fine with. Not to say that she’s...

Exclusive: Dakota Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen and Anton Yelchin are in final negotiations to star in Very Good Girls, the directing debut of screenwriter Naomi Foner. The project, shooting this June in New York, is being financed by Norton Herrick’s Herrick Entertainment and produced through Michael London’s Groundswell Productions alongside Lee Clay and Herrick. Hawk Koch and Gale Anne Hurd are executive producers. Fanning and Olsen play lifelong best friends in the summer after their high school graduation, both determined to lose their virginity as a rite of passage into the adult world. When they fall in love with the same boy (Yelchin), their quest becomes much more complicated and emotionally dangerous than they ever imagined. They come out of the summer more women than girls, but in ways that they never imagined. Olsen and Yelchin turned in breakout performances at last year’s Sundance, in Martha Marcy May Marlene and Like Crazy.

New pics have come along from Magnolia Pictures' "Vanishing on 7th Street." Magnet Releasing will be distributing Brad Anderson's new film Vanishing on 7th Street. I've been looking forward to seeing this movie and I'm happy to see that it finally got distribution. Andreson is a fantastic director that has brought us films such as Session 9, The Machinist, Transsiberian. I've enjoyed every film this guy has made, and this one looks like it's going to be a solid film as well.
When a massive power outage plunges the city of Detroit into total darkness, a disparate group of individuals (Christensen, Leguizamo, Newton) find themselves alone. The entire city’s population has vanished into thin air, leaving behind heaps of empty clothing, abandoned cars and lengthening shadows. Soon the daylight begins to disappear completely, and as the survivors gather in an abandoned tavern, they realize the darkness is out to get them, and only their rapidly diminishing light sources can keep them safe.

The beleaguered production of the Broadway musical “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” has reportedly been pushed back to next spring.
According to The New York Times, the later-than-expected start is indeed due to the widely reported production shutdown on the project and continuing efforts to recruit new investors to come onboard the multimillion-dollar project.
Earlier this month, reports emerged that the production of “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” was back on track thanks to two new investors, Jim Stern and Norton Herrick. However, Stern told MTV News that word of his involvement was premature at best.
“Yeah, I think that it would be good if people would actually talk to me before they write that sort of thing," Stern said. "It's not really—I mean, I don't know. Whether I'm involved in it or not, I don't have any idea yet."
The Times report does indicate that lead producer David Garfinkle,...
