Timothée Chalamet is by far one of the most promising young actors working in Hollywood today, after his standout performances in films like Call Me By Your Name, Little Women, and Dune. The actor has become one of the biggest stars in the film industry and after his recent performance as Duke Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Two, he is sure to become a household name worldwide. So, if you love Chalamet’s performances here are the best movies Chalamet has appeared in and just to warn you, we didn’t include Interstellar in this list because Chalamet’s role in Christopher Nolan was not that big or significant.

Timothée Chalamet is the star of the moment, with two big projects now in theaters:Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. After his breakthrough as Call Me By Your Name’s Elio, the young actor’s rise was meteoric, resulting in a well-deserved Best Actor Oscar nomination and countless opportunities. Since 2017, though, Chalamet hasn’t been able to recapture the Academy’s attention despite having some buzzy projects. Until now, the closest he ever came to a second nomination was in Felix van Groeningen’s Beautiful Boy. The film was based on the real-life story of drug addiction and familial bonds detailed in David and Nic Sheff’s memoirs. Hollywood’s current favorite twink is heartbreaking in the titular role…...

Deadline has confirmed that the Seth Rogen/Point Grey Pictures comedy An American Pickle is heading to HBO Max. I’m informed that a release date for the movie is still Tbd even though the service is launching on May 27.
WarnerMedia has taken global rights to the feature which stars Rogen in dual roles from Sony. The Culver City studio was set to open the feature later this year, but they’ve moved a large number of pics on their feature slate to 2021. In the wake of exhibition’s shutdown out of safety for Covid-19, a number of smaller-mid sized films are segueing to streaming with theatrical distributors selling them off, i.e. Stx’s My Spy to Amazon, and Paramount/Mrc’s Lovebirds to Netflix.

Netflix has removed a controversial scene from the first season of its teen drama series “13 Reasons Why” that depicts in graphic detail a character committing suicide. The scene debuted in the first season finale which, like the rest of the show’s initial run, was made available March 31, 2017 on Netflix. Several parent and family organizations, including the Parents Television Council, slammed the show for depicting a suicide in such graphic detail.
The scene in question showed Katherine Longford’s character Hannah Baker cutting herself in the bathtub and did not edit out the violence. Over two years later, the scene has been entirely removed from the episode.
“We’ve heard from many young people that ’13 Reasons Why’ encouraged them to start conversations about difficult issues like depression and suicide and get help — often for the first time,” Netflix said in a statement (via Variety). “As we prepare to launch season three later this summer,...

Beautiful Boy, directed by Felix van Groeningen, faces stiff competition as the Armageddon to Peter Hedges’ Ben is Back, the equivalent to that of Deep Impact. A nonsensical and truly incomparable comparison, but undoubtedly the two have some similarities, and with having seen Hedges Ben is Back and now Groeningen’s film, it is undoubtedly clear that one of these films has won this none-existing war by a mile. As Beautiful Boy is a heart-breaking, sombre and brutal feature that puts you through every pain imaginable watching this tragic story unfold.
There is a lot to appreciate here, specifically the performances. Film Twitter darling Timothee Chalamet is breath-taking in his role as addict Nic Sheff.

Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet play a real-life father and son in this insufferable, memoirs-based drugs drama
This supersensitive and tasteful movie is all but insufferable, suppressing a sob at the tragedy of drug addiction afflicting someone so young and “beautiful”. It is based on what is effectively a matching set of memoirs: Beautiful Boy, by author and journalist David Sheff, his harrowing account of trying to help his son Nic battle crystal meth addiction, and Tweak – by Nic Sheff himself, about these same experiences, the author now, thankfully, eight years clean.
Steve Carell does an honest, well-meaning job in the role of David and the egregiously beautiful Timothée Chalamet is earnest in the part of Nic, David’s son from his first marriage. Maura Tierney plays David’s second wife, Karen, and the mother of his two other much younger children – naturally concerned about Nic, but increasingly angry at...

This week, Timothée Chalamet chucks crystal meth for easy awards bait. Next week, Clint Eastwood smuggles coke for dodgy social commentary. When will the movies stop their substance abuse?
Films are doing drugs again. The appeal is irresistible – the pure hit of human drama that comes with the needle or the rolled-up banknote. Now, a pair of new movies find two actors at opposite ends of their careers deep in the mire. In one, Beautiful Boy, modish male lead Timothée Chalamet plays Nic Sheff, a young addict lost to methamphetamine as his father David (Steve Carell) helplessly looks on. While in The Mule, Clint Eastwood directs himself as Earl Stone, a 90-year-old horticulturalist recruited by a Mexican cartel to ferry cocaine around America. Both are based on real life, in the case of the Sheffs via parallel memoirs.

“Beautiful Boy,” the Golden Globe-nominated true story of a family struggling with a son’s heroine addiction, is a heartbreaking portrayal of a family contending with crisis — but a family nonetheless.
While filming “Beautiful Boy,” the cast and filmmakers said in an exclusive featurette given to TheWrap that they created their own dedicated family on set to support each other, much like the real-life Sheff family on which the film is based.
“There was this incredible moment when the Sheffs visited us on set and saw the family we had recreated and there was this deep sense of love and a bond between everybody — Steve Carell, Timothée Chalamet, Maura Tierney, Amy Ryan,” producer Jeremy Kleiner said in the exclusive clip.

In the final instalment of my conversation with Luke Davies on Beautiful Boy we discuss the family dynamics between the roles Steve Carell (David Sheff), Maura Tierney (Karen Barbour) and Amy Ryan (Vicki Sheff) play in the life of Timothée Chalamet (Nic Sheff), the "experimenting" done by Felix van Groeningen with his longtime editor Nico Leunen, and how the Oscar-nominated screenwriter (for his adaptation of Saroo Brierley's A Long Way Home for Garth Davis's Lion), enjoys dealing with parent-child relationships.

While politics weren’t front and center at Thursday’s 30th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival opening night awards gala, presents and honorees still managed to throw in some zingers about the political turmoil facing the U.S.
Held at the Palm Springs Convention Center, the star-studded soirée, which kicks off the 11-day fest, was a celebration not only of achievements in cinema and big screen acting, but of the pervasive power in film to not only entertain, but elevate the soul and spirit in times of emotional struggle and searing physic pain. Or, as is the case with America under Trump, times of rampant political tumult and devastating humanitarian crises.
“The Favourite” star Olivia Colman, winner of the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, described her character Queen Anne as “someone in whom resides all the madness, frustration and confusion and instability of a powerful person unfit for a for the job.

In Beautiful Boy, Chalamet plays a teenager hooked on crystal meth, Carell his father. They talk about the challenges of their roles – and missing out on best actor Oscars
Beautiful Boy is based on a brace of memoirs that together provide a father-and-son, “he said, he said” account of the same story. The books in question are Tweak: Growing Up On Methamphetamines by Nic Sheff, and Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction by Nic’s journalist father, David. Timothée Chalamet – currently Hollywood’s hottest young actor after his Oscar nomination for Call Me By Your Name and love interest in the also Oscar-nominated Lady Bird – plays the teenager hooked on crystal meth. Steve Carell is the father trying to understand what has happened to his apparently perfect, happy-go-lucky son. The Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for 2019 are here, touting major nods for Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody and more.
The 25th Screen Actors Guild Awards has released its list of nominees. The ceremony, often a prognosticative weather-vane for the shifting winds of the subsequent Academy Awards, appears to be throwing some major awards-season-uncharacteristic love to the comic book movie genre with Marvel’s Black Panther, and even comedy, with Crazy Rich Asians.
Of course, the expected favorites – like The Favourite – got on the board. Indeed, while Galileo was nowhere to be found, Bohemian Rhapsody struck like a thunderbolt of lightning, as did A Star is Born and Vice. Additionally, notable small-screen nods were dealt to Better Call Saul, Ozark, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Handmaid’s Tale, along with one last shot for departing Cold War drama The Americans.

One of the most striking aspects about “Beautiful Boy” is how natural it looks, from its picturesque scenery to its inviting home. So it might be surprising to learn that most of the film was shot on a stage. “I would say 65 percent of it was built,” production designer Ethan Tobman revealed at Gold Derby’s Meet the Experts: Production Designers panel, moderated by this author (watch the exclusive video above). “The house interior is a build. It is very naturalistic and embraces the landscape and has enormous windows, it invites light and trees into the interior, but it is not on location.”
Tobman’s goal was to create a naturalistic environment with director Felix Van Groeningen — who had never worked with a production designer before in his native Belgium — especially since the addiction drama is a true story, based on David and Nic Sheff’s respective memoirs. Tobman, whose...

Today we are recognizing Beautiful Boy, as well as star Timothée Chalamet. Our Hollywood Film Tributes recognize films and talent for their excellence in the art of filmmaking. In a very short period of time, Timothée Chalamet has become as hot an actor as there is in the field. In demand by top tier filmmakers, Chalamet has shown acting chops, star power, personality, and that X factor which launches a young man into the stratosphere. His turn last year in Call Me By Your Name made him an Oscar nominee, while he also turned heads in the Academy Award nominee Lady Bird. Coming off of small but impactful work in things like Interstellar and Men, Women & Children, he’s now gone to even bigger heights with Beautiful Boy. From our piece on the film (and Chalamet) back in October: Based off of two memoirs by David Sheff and Nic Sheff,...

Timothee Chalament is on board to play one of the leads in Wes Anderson’s next live action feature, “The French Dispatch.”
Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Benicio del Toro and Jeffrey Wright are also on board. Murray, McDormand and Swinton have appeared in several Anderson films.
Anderson is writing and directing the pic with Scott Rudin producing. It’s not clear if a distribution deal is officially closed but sources say the film is expected to be distributed by Fox Searchlight, which has released several Anderson pics including his most recent “Isle of Dogs.”
The film is set in the 1950s and follows journalists at an American newspaper bureau in 1950s Paris. While the film is set in Paris, Anderson has already started shooting in Angouleme in southwestern France. Traffic was shut down Wednesday on streets in the city while he filmed a scene with artificial snow, France3 reported.

Even though Timothée Chalamet has become a big actor in recent months, he still has a history of small parts.
It’s part of the journey to success, certainly, but that doesn’t make it any less sad for the 22-year-old actor, who had a minor role in the 2014 blockbuster Interstellar starring Matthew McConaughey.
In a conversation with fellow star Emma Stone, 30, for Variety’s Actors on Actors franchise, which will air on PBS in January, the Call Me By Your Name lead recalled his reaction to watching an early screening of Christopher Nolan’s film with the cast, which...

Timothée Chalamet had a meteoric rise last year, co-starring in two of last season’s most buzzed-about awards movies— Hostiles and Lady Bird—and landing an Oscar nomination for his lead in a third, Call Me by Your Name. But when he first met Nic Sheff, the journalist and recovering addict whose story he tells in Beautiful Boy—the film that has returned Chalamet to the awards conversation—Sheff had no idea who he was.
Chalamet’s name was the one Sheff didn’t recognize from a list of young up-and-comers suggested for the role. “I didn’t know what to expect,” Sheff says now. Call Me by Your Name—the film that would make Chalamet a household name—had yet to premiere. “I was immediately struck by what an incredible energy he has. “I’d had my own history and struggles with addiction in my 20s,” reveals “Beautiful Boy” screenwriter Luke Davies. “Beautiful Boy” uses non-linear storytelling, intercutting frequent flashbacks — sometimes very brief, sometimes longer — in the fact-based tale of a dad (Steve Carell) dealing with his son’s (Timothee Chalamet) drug addiction and rehab.
Director Felix van Groeningen and his editor Nico Leunen have used this method of storytelling for five of the six films they’ve made together. The style is a good match for the story of the Amazon-Plan B film: “The flashbacks are important to show the emotional journey of these characters, to see the unique bond, and to see David questioning himself,” says van Groeningen. “This shows how his memory works and shows their higher highs and lower lows.
“I give Nico a lot of credit for being able to jump around time and not confuse the audience. With the first cut, we had to find the emotional logic that makes sense. Other versions jumped back and forth more,...

The boys are back in town! On Sunday night, Call Me by Your Name costars Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer reunited at the 22nd Annual Hollywood Film Awards in Beverly Hills, and I'm just going to assume it's the reason I'm smiling ear to ear right now. Armie presented Timothée with an award for his work in the recent film Beautiful Boy, where he commended the 22-year-old actor's portrayal of Nic Sheff and the story of methamphetamine addiction.
"Timothée's portrait as Nic Sheff is an intense and disarming depiction of the hopelessness, despair, and collateral damage of methamphetamine addiction," Armie said in his introduction. "As Nic's experimentation with drugs leads to an uncontrollable dependence, his devastated father tries to cope with what has happened and what is happening to his son . . . It's my pleasure to present the award for Hollywood Supporting Actor to Timothée Chalamet."

Beautiful Boy and Cold War, the films Amazon Studios brought to Deadline’s The Contenders La on Saturday at the DGA Theater, both dig deep into troubled and tortured relationships.
Based on not one but two memoirs – those of father and son David and Nic Sheff – Beautiful Boy looks at the impact of addiction and its toll on family connection.
“I saw a very epic story about a father and son trying to come to terms with addiction,” said writer-director Felix Van Groeningen (Broken Circle Breakdown). “It’s an eye-opener about how we as a society still look upon addiction as a moral failure. It was unique and had never been done before, and I just felt like it was worth taking on.”
Steve Carell was the first to come on board, as the father, David. “We had been talking for years about who the right person could be,” Van Groeningen said.

Many actors have gotten on a hot streak with the Academy for a specific period of time in the Oscars’ 90-year history. Recently we’ve seen Octavia Spencer, Bradley Cooper, Mark Ruffalo and Amy Adams earn consecutive nominations at the Oscars. There are currently a number of last year’s Oscar nominees who could earn an afterglow nomination just one year later, proving Sally Field correct in her second acceptance speech for Best Actress when she exclaimed: “You like me, right now, you like me!”

Felix Van Groeningen‘s “Beautiful Boy” left audiences at the London Film Festival press screening in tears as it played to three packed theatre screens. Here’s the official synopsis of the Amazon Studios film, one of the most emotional movies to play at Lff: Based on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff, Beautiful Boy chronicles the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years. Chalamet came out nowhere last year and his breakthrough role in “Call Me By Your Name” earned him a Best Actor nomination. This year, he returns with a role that could win him the Supporting Actor Oscar.

Last season, 22-year-old Timothée Chalamet could have become the youngest Best Actor winner in Academy Award history for his breakthrough performance in Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me By Your Name.” Even though Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”) prevailed, Chalamet is still the third youngest Best Actor nominee, just behind Jackie Cooper and Mickey Rooney.
This year, however, he could become the second youngest Best Supporting Actor winner for his performance in Felix Van Groeningen‘s biographical drama “Beautiful Boy.”
Based on the memoirs “Beautiful Boy” by David Sheff and “Tweak” by his son Nic Sheff, the film follows Nic (Chalamet), a teenager who leads a seemingly perfect life, but in reality struggles with an addiction to crystal meth, threatening to destroy his and his family’s entire lives.
