The indie comedy The Out of Town Wedding has cast Saturday Night Live alum Brooks Wheelan, stand-up comedian Kurt Braunohler and Men At Work alum Michael Cassidy. Sydney — Greg Ham, a musician with the iconic Australian band Men at Work, was found dead in his Melbourne home on Thursday, Australian reports said.
Victoria state police confirmed that the deceased was the 58-year-old resident of the house but did not identify him by name, in keeping with local practice. Ham was 58 and neighbors said he was the lone occupant of the house.
Two concerned friends who had not heard from Ham in some time found the body after going to check on him, police said, declining to release any details on how Ham died or if the circumstances were suspicious.
"There are a number of unexplained aspects to it which has caused our attendance here today, and we're assisting the local detectives to determine what has occurred," Detective Senior Sergeant Shane O'Connell told reporters.
Newspapers including The Australian and The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Ham had died.

TBS has picked up a second new comedy series, Sullivan And Son, starring comedian Steve Byrne and executive produced by Vince Vaughn and Peter Billingsley. The show, which has received 10-episode order for a summer premiere, joins Men At Work, which received a series order last month. For the second series slot, TBS was to choose between two pilots – Sullivan And Son and the Conan O’Brien-produced Bff. The pilots were part of TBS’ return to original half-hour comedies after flirting with hourlong shows for about a year. Written by Byrne and Cheers veteran Rob Long, who serves as executive producer/showrunner, Sullivan And Son is in the vein of the classic NBC comedy and takes place in a legendary neighborhood bar in a working-class Pittsburgh neighborhood. It centers on Steve Sullivan (Byrne), the son of the bar’s current owner (Dan Lauria) and the grandson of its founder who...

I’m not sure what’s brought about the recent mini resurgence of Jaws remixes – the recent stu-perb Disney Jaws joins an impressive canon alongside the classic Must Love Jaws – but the following trailer for “Finding Jaws” is just too expertly done for me to worry about it. It’s actually too expertly done for me to even be sure it’s a joke, because I’m pretty sure this is already playing on most international United flights. My controversial theory is: We all like the movie Jaws, so anything that’s like “hey here’s some Jaws!” makes us happy. Also it’s 1 minute long and features Men At Work, so there you go, Internet Hat Trick: (via /Film)...

Everyone is touting this week's Glee episode, "Asian F" as one of the best episodes of the series. I admit, watching this clip, it really made me feel for Mike Chang, and not the good feeling I get with Burt and Kurt.

Emi has lost an appeal against a judgment which found Men At Work guilty of plagarism. The record company appealed against last year's court decision that the Australian band had stolen part of their hit song 'Down Under' from Aussie folk tune 'Kookaburra Sits In The Old Gumtree'. According to The ABC, Emi argued earlier this week that the section was a tribute to the traditional song, but the judge dismissed the appeal. In 2010, Men At Work were ordered to pay 5% of all royalties after the judge found that the flute riff from the song was plagiarised. Larrikin Music, which (more)...

After weighing in with what will and should win in seven genres, Gold Derby's music experts David Schnelwar and Darrin Dortch turn to the four top races in the General Field. Best New Artist Justin Bieber Drake Florence & the Machine Mumford & Sons Esperanza Spalding David's take: Esperanza Spalding is not a crossover artist and became well known the day the Grammy nominations were announced; we have seen the same scenario previously with Susan Tedeschi (1999) and Ledisi (2008). Florence and the Machine only received one nomination; the last time an artist won with one nomination was Shelby Lynne in 2000 and before that it was Milli Vanilli in 1989. A non-American act has not won since the 1980s (Men At Work, Culture Club and Sade). This hurts Mumford and Sons' chances. This race is between Drake and Justin Bieber. Bigger rap solo artists that Drake have lost this category: Puff Daddy (1997), 50 Cent (2003) and Kanye West...

The gravy train was bound to end someday. Unfortunately, for Adam Sandler and Kevin James (and for audiences) it seems to have broken down outside a hotel where both men are planning on seeking employment. According to Deadline Rochester, Sandler and James are both aiming to star in Valet Guys – a movie about two middle-aged parking attendants who witness a murder and have wacky stuff happen to them after that. Essentially, it’s Men At Work with valets instead of garbage men. Of course, they may need to keep a few garbage men nearby for when the movie is done. James and Sandler have both had strong careers and played their parts in subverting comedy. They should realize that the world expects more from them than falling down a lot and making funny voices. Apparently, they haven’t gotten that memo yet. Sony is probably hiding it from them behind the giant Mib banner at the entrance...

Men At Work have been ordered to pay back 5% of the royalties received since 2002 for their 1983 hit 'Down Under'. An Australian judge made the ruling following an earlier judgement that the group had plagiarised a children's song written by teacher Marion Sinclair. Larrikin Music, who own the rights to Sinclair's 'Kookaburra Sits', had wanted 60% of royalties, reports BBC News. Howver in his ruling, (more)...

A number of Australian filmmakers have alleged that their films have been ‘ripped off’ by Hollywood studios, but proving copyright infringement in a court of law is not an easy task. Gene Goodsell writes.
Copyright owners have the exclusive rights to do certain acts in respect of the subject matter protected under the Copyright Act.
In Australia, patents and trademarks are registered, however, copyright is not. This position can be contrasted to that which exists in the United States, where copyright can be registered with the Copyright Office in Washington D.C. In the United States there are two important reasons to register a work. The first is to legally benefit if there is copyright infringement.
The second is to prove chain of title.
In Australia, the following exclusive rights are protected in relation to film:
Communication of the film to the general public. Reproduction of the film.

Fact: there is no single game I have ever played more than Rock Band 2. I got it the day it came out, and in the nearly two years since it released, I’ve probably spent more days playing it than not. You’d be safe in assuming that I am looking forward to Rock Band 3 more than a little bit.
So far, there hasn’t been a lot of news on the third full edition of Harmonix’s rock star simulator, but that is slowly starting to change. Writing on the Zine portion of the Rock Band website, lead designer Dan Teasdale lets slip the first few tiny morsels of information on Rock Band 3. (He also reveals that he’s Australian. So, Men At Work in Rock Band 3 confirmed?)
Teasdale starts by mentioning the “revolutionary new experiences you’ll be able to play with in Rock Band 3,” and then goes...

Australian court ruled the song copied the children's classic 'Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree.'

For a generation of pop music fans in the 1980s, it was the bubbly anthem that provided a lesson about the Australian vegetable-based brown sandwich spread vegemite. For Aussie band Men at Work, it was the song that put them on the international map, making them the only band from "Down Under" to ever have a #1 album, Business as Usual, and single at the same time in the U.S. and earning them a 1983 Grammy for Best New Artist.
But for the publishing company Larrikin Music, the signature flute solo in the song "Down Under" sounded a bit too much like the 70-plus-year-old children's campfire song "Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree." According to The Associated Press,...

Men At Work have lost a plagiarism case after a judge ruled that they illegally used parts of a popular children's song in their 1980s hit 'Down Under'. Larrikin music publishers in Sydney filed a lawsuit against the Australian group in July, claiming that the flute solo on the track sampled parts of 'Kookaburra Sits In The Old Gum Tree', written by a music teacher for the Girl Guides in 1934. Men At Work's record labels Emi and Sony BMG denied the claim, but a Federal Court in Sydney ruled against them. The court has ordered the companies to pay compensation, which could amount (more)...

Can you imagine Nicole being the life of the party? She was last night!
Wow! Nicole Kidman showed a totally different side of herself Jan. 16 at the annual “G’Day USA” awards dinner in La, an event that honors and celebrates Australia’s imprint on Hollywood. In a tribute to “The Mentalist” star Simon Baker, who’s up for a Golden Globe tonight, Nicole joined hubby Keith Urban on stage for a wacky performance of Men At Work’s 1982 hit “Down Under.” Just look at her go!
After the song, Nicole presented Simon with the Excellence in Film and Television Award, which was also given out to fellow Aussie and Golden Globe nominee Toni Collette. Nicole, it’s so great to see you letting your hair down and having a good time. We knew you could sing, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen you looking so happy!

Kids today! All worked up about terrorism. Ooooh, scary, a gaggle of bearded men in caves are after us. Pfffff. Back before the fall of the Berlin Wall -- 20 years ago on November 9, 1989 -- the world lived in the constant shadow of a genuine existential threat: total nuclear annihilation. The possibility that we could all be vaporized in a matter of minutes occupied a dark but prominent place not only in our individual consciences but in pop culture as well. There were cheeky admonishments like Billy Bragg's "Help Save the Youth of American" or Men At Work's "It's a Mistake." And the bomb loomed large for thrash bands, too. For some it may have been just another means to engage in their lyrical orgies of blood and gore, but for others -- check out Exodus's "Fabulous Disaster"...

The only time that director Madhur Bhandarkar lost the battle at the ticket window in the recent past was with Traffic Signal; otherwise it has been quite a smooth sailing for his films. If names like Satta and Aan-Men At Work come to mind, the commercial failure was more than compensated by the critical acclaim, and in case of Aan, Madhur had more or less disassociated himself from the project which was handled by its producer Firoz Nadiadwala. Even last year it appeared...
