Like most rising star comics today, looking to further build their audience while reaping due rewards for their work, Joe Pera is self-releasing his latest special, Joe Pera: Slow & Steady, taking it directly to YouTube. Taped to a packed house at The Opera House of Williamsburg on June 15th, his new hour will premiere on Friday, October 6th at 8:00pm Et, exclusively on his YouTube channel @JoePeraComedy.
A trailer teasing the special can be found above.
Slow & Steady was independently financed and produced and comes to the internet following the conclusion of Pera’s cult favorite Adult Swim series, Joe Pera Talks With You. Little has been revealed about the subject matter he’ll address, but it will of course be marked by Pera’s singular slow, gentle style as, more or less, the Mister Rogers of comedy.
In Pera’s words, “The ‘Slow & Steady’ special is the culmination...

Jo Koy is more than ready to get back to laughing, and he’s pretty certain audiences are, too.
He’ll put that theory to the test Sept. 13, when the best-selling comic parlays his arena act into his fourth Netflix special. The hour, titled Live From the Los Angeles Forum, delves into his struggles in Hollywood, where he and his Filipino heritage weren’t always celebrated. It was directed by Shannon Hartman and executive produced by Koy, Hartman, Joe Meloche and Michelle Caputo.
During a brief stop at home in Los Angeles, the newly single Koy spoke candidly about telling jokes in an increasingly fraught climate and why he thanks God for Steven Spielberg.

‘Patriot Act’: Hasan Minhaj’s New Netflix Series Looks Different From Every Other Show on Late Night
With a title like “Patriot Act,” you might assume that the look of the latest Netflix show would revert to three basic colors. Host Hasan Minhaj had different ideas.
“Hasan from the get-go was like, ‘I don’t want it to feel like, you know, just a red, white and blue political palate. He wanted to open it up and make something a little bit more artistic and fun,” executive producer Shannon Hartman told IndieWire.
The final product that launched last Sunday (and is set for 29 more episodes under its first-of-its-kind deal for Netflix) looks a little different than the proof-of-concept idea that Minhaj self-financed. “Patriot Act” creative director Michelle Higa Fox recalls that the show’s art direction style went through about 10 different versions over the intervening year.
“We landed on a look kind of inspired by microfiche film, just because we thought that that kind of layering of...

Hasan Minhaj will be the first Indian-American host of a weekly comedy show, and now we know what the name of that show will be. The “Daily Show” alumni and 2017 White House Correspondents Dinner host will lead the upcoming series “Patriot Act,” set to premiere this October.
The official description, provided by Netflix: Minhaj’s weekly comedy show will explore the modern cultural and political landscape with depth and sincerity. Each week, Minhaj will bring his unique comedic voice and storytelling skill to investigate the larger trends shaping our fragmented world.
