Christine and the Queens has released a new single, “Rentrer Chez Moi.” The French-language song was written and produced by the artist, and arrived alongside a music video directed by Sasha Mongin and produced by Premier Cri. The ethereal clip was filmed in Paris and Hanches, France.
On the poetic track, the musician sings about returning home to oneself. The English translation of the lyrics showcases the meta nature of the lines: “This song makes me cry because it is true, so much love I have for you, this deep...

Cola Boyy has sadly passed away.
The California-bred musician, born Matthew Urango, has died at the age of 34, his record label confirmed in a statement, via Stereogum.
The self-described “disabled disco innovator” was born with spina bifida, scoliosis and kyphosis.
He first debuted on the music scene in 2018 with debut EP Black Boogie Neon, featuring tracks like “Penny Girl” and “Buggy Tip.”

He would eventually tour with acts like Mgmt and collaborate with Air’s Nicolas Godin, as well as The Avalanches.
His debut album Prosthetic Boombox came out in 2021, featuring Mgmt’s Andrew VanWyngarden, Godin, John Carroll Kirby, and more acts.

All’s fair in love, war, and sandwiches in Mgmt’s “Dancing in Babylon,” the indie duo’s new song with Chris of Christine and the Queens.
The new track— set to appear on Loss of Life, out Feb. 23 via Mom + Pop — is, at its core, a tender piano ballad, but with the kind of quintessentially strange undercurrents you’d expect from Mgmt. Andrew VanWyngarden and Chris combine beautifully on vocals as well, exchanging lines before hitting some sublime harmonies at the end of the bridge, “I wanna tell everyone...

From the out-of-step psychedelic rock of 2010’s Congratulations and 2013’s Mgmt to their surprisingly somber return to form in 2018’s Little Dark Age, Mgmt has seemingly been on a career-long quest to confound critics and fans alike. On their fifth studio album, Loss of Life, the band discovers a delectable sweet spot between the psych-pop promise of their early work and their noble, albeit stubborn, determination to deliver something more sophisticated.
That’s not to say that Mgmt has outgrown their prankster ways. The album opens, perhaps counterintuitively, with “Loss of Life, Part 2,” which warps the music of the closing title song into a backing track for a reading of “I Am Taliesin. I Sing Perfect Metre,” a medieval poem celebrating the interconnectedness of all things. It’s a weird and trippy intro to Loss of Life that effectively speaks to the album’s sound and ethos.

Mgmt have shared the video for their new song “Nothing to Declare,” the latest single off the duo’s upcoming album Loss of Life.
The Joey Frank-directed visual stars Inga Petry, a college student born with upper limb aplasia who uses social media to spread awareness for the disabled community. In the video, Petry travels to Paris, documenting an adventure that culminates with her witnessing the Venus de Milo in person.
“When I was first approached by Joey to do this project, it was the parallelism in his vision that first drew me in.

Mgmt have released the new music video for “Bubblegum Dog,” the new single from their upcoming album, Loss of Life.
The Tom Scharpling and Julia Vickerman-directed visual pays tribute to alternative-rock videos from the Nineties. The humorous clip finds Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser hanging by a fake fire, donning cowboy hats, performing in an MTV Unplugged setting, and using soul patches, among other cheeky homages. Actor Mark Proksch (What We Do in the Shadows, The Office) makes a cameo.

Mgmt have finally confirmed their next album. Titled Loss of Life, the band’s fifth full-length arrives on February 23rd via Mom + Pop. In anticipation, the first single, “Mother Nature,” is out now.
Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser co-produced Loss of Life along with Patrick Wimberly, while their longtime collaborator Dave Fridmann handled mixing. Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), Brian Burton (Danger Mouse), and James Richardson provide additional production on “Dancing in Babylon” — which includes the first-ever feature on an Mgmt record, thanks to Christine and the Queens. Finally, Miles A. Robinson served as associate producer and engineer on the LP.
With acoustic guitar and relaxed vocals, “Mother Nature” feels a lot more grounded than the psychedelic singles that made Mgmt famous over a decade ago. In a statement, the duo said the song “outlines the archetypical Mgmt mythology of one hero attempting to get the other hero to come...

Just a few years ago, Mgmt seemed like they were spiraling into oblivion. The psychedelic synth-pop dup of Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser exploded onto the scene back in 2007 with their debut LP, Oracular Spectacular, and the hits “Kids,” “Electric Feel,” and “Time to Pretend.” But follow-up albums Congratulations and Mgmt divided critics, baffled many fans, and failed to generate any genuine hits.

New Mgmt music may be on the horizon. A new reddit post from the band appears to show test pressings of their follow-up to 2018’s Little Dark Age, suggesting that the release of their next LP is imminent.
The duo’s Andrew VanWyngarden shared a photo on Mgmt’s subreddit that appears to be a stack of test pressings, complete with a banana on top and the phrase “elf of soils” scribbled out. “It automatically remembered my login info actually,” VanWyngarden wrote in the caption.
Fans have speculated that “elf of soils” could be an anagram for “loss of life,” and it seems like that very well could be the album’s title; earlier this year, VanWyngarden shared a separate reddit post captioned “Just got done cooking L.O.L.,” and we’re now thinking that abbreviation indicates Loss of Life instead of laughter.

Pink Floyd recorded several all-time great classic rock songs. They also hid some underrated gems on their albums, but “Have You Got It Yet?” wasn’t one of them. Still, that tune reunited Pink Floyd’s three surviving members for a movie of the same name that looks at the band’s early history.
Pink Floyd reunited for the movie ‘Have You Got It Yet?’
Pink Floyd’s intraband relationships were rarely smooth sailing, even when the band reached its peak.
Bassist and chief songwriter Roger Waters and lead guitarist David Gilmour often found themselves on rocky ground. Waters fired keyboard player Rick Wright while recording The Wall and supplanted drummer Nick Mason with Andy Newmark on The Final Cut. The classic Pink Floyd lineup bitterly disintegrated after that latter album. The years and distance did little to thaw the frosty relationships.
Still, Have You Got It Yet? got Pink Floyd to reunite.

When it comes to lowered expectations in pop, there probably isn’t a better candidate than the Avalanches’ third record. The Australian Edm combo’s debut, Since I Left You, took the art of constructing music out of samples to a heightened level of craft; that patchwork quilt of music was one of 2000’s kickiest albums. Nearly two decades passed before we heard from the Avalanches again, and when we did, time seemed to have passed them by: 2016’s Wildflower was a far less satisfying grab-bag of voices, sound effects...

The drummer and writer has spent a better part of the past decade on tour and making music with Mgmt, but he's stepping out as a film composer for the first time with his score to "Jackrabbit," which gets its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday. "After touring for seven years straight and not being able to polish skills in any other area, it's great to finally spread out and figure out something else that I can do," Berman told me this week. "It was such a pleasure to make music for a film, and I'm blown away people's response to it... it was a real lucky combination of factors." For six months, Berman collaborated with director Carleton Ranney's on coming up with the best versions of the sci-fi flick's "sparse," spacious sounds. To go along...

This weekend, Miley Cyrus joined the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne and Mgmt's Andrew VanWyngarden in the studio to record a cover of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" — a song that practically requires you to get stoned before performing it. The beginning of Mgmt’s third self-titled studio album starts particularly…strange. Andrew Vanwyngarden’s voice is either replaced or modified by or into what sounds like the voice of a young child. It soon transforms into normal pitch, percussion kicks in, heavy and forceful, followed by soft acoustic guitar strumming and that catchy melody that is ‘Alien Days’. Mgmt have returned. And it has been quite the anticipation for anyone who is a fan of this band and genuinely appreciated their sophomore album, ‘Congratulations’, which can be argued as an introduction to what has been unveiled as their “true” sound now running psychologically and above all, musically unrestrained in this new volume of songs.
Many things are heard in this album, from Eastern scales to classic synthesizers to cerebral lyrics. Upon listening to it, one might observe that this band once popular for radio-savvy tunes...

Originating members Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser recorded "Mgmt" with producer Dave Fridmann, who also co-produced 2008’s "Oracular Spectacular" and 2010’s "Congratulations." The 10-track Columbia album includes one cover, of Faine Jade's "Introspection," which "directly mirrors the duo's encompassing surrealist view of the everyday," according to a release. Mgmt dropped the album's opener "Alien Days" during Record Store Day, on limited edition cassette, because, yeah, sure, cassettes. The pop-dance-psych band "have begun assembling a variety of unique visual elements" for videos and live shows, courtesy of "video...

Mgmt says it's getting ready to drop another album after working on it for nearly a year. The as-yet-untitled release was recorded entirely by founding band members Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden without the assistance of a full band, just like how they recorded 2010's Congratulations. The two albums diverge in similarity when it comes to their respective sounds, though: Goldwasser and VanWyngarden tell Rolling Stone that the new songs are more heavily influenced by house music and electronic artists such as Aphex Twin than anything they've done before. Goldwasser adds that they're "not trying to ...

At the tail end of the sixties, Joshua White made a name for himself by projecting swirls of color behind the stage at the Fillmore East, a Yiddish theater turned concert space in Manhattan's East Village, where regulars of the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa gave the venue the exalted title, "The Church Of Rock And Roll." White's Joshua Light Show and its contemporaries in the UK and the West Coast turned the live shows of musicians of the time -- Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin -- into dreamy listening sessions around a lava lamp writ large.
For four days this fall, those sessions will re-commence. A revival of the Joshua Light Show will drop into Nyu's Skirball Center For The Performing Arts in September, near White's old stomping grounds at the Fillmore (which lives on today as a bank). Among the musicians fronting White -- who now...

Christmas greetings to all; had enough of your Mum blasting out some Bruno Mars and your Nan playing Buble on repeat, well here’s my top 10 best albums of 2011 just in time, ready for some light hearted discussion on this year’s music.
Whilst 2011 was a killer 12 months for games fans, cinema was crazily mediocre, but the music world was blessed with another good year. I was lucky enough to attend the Leeds Festival, one as usual set amongst a hectic summer schedule of mud, sweat and tears. I also found myself buying more albums as the year offered some impressively talented LPs. Below is a list of my top ten favourite albums of 2011. As I have quite a mainstream taste for music, I’d love some further suggestions on what you think are the best albums of 2011, enjoy.

Mgmt have revealed that they are considering a return to their pop sound. The duo, who rose to fame with their 2008 hit 'Kids', are planning a "super-satirical pop" sound for for their live shows after describing their latest jaunt as an "escapist, indulgent psychedelic trip". "We've actually talked about doing something with our live show so it's more clearly defined," Andrew VanWyngarden told Bang Showbiz. "Like, maybe doing one set that's even trippier, and further out that what (more)...

Electro-pop stars Mgmt are under pressure from their record label to change their musical style following the release of their last album, "Congratulations". The band shot to fame upon the release of their 2007 offering "Oracular Spectacular", which landed them a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist, while their track Kids also received a nod.
The duo released the follow-up "Congratulations" in April this year, but the musicians admit bosses at their Columbia label were less than impressed with their new sound and have vowed to take tighter control of their next album. Andrew Vanwyngarden tells Scotland's Daily Record newspaper, "I definitely think our music will change in the future because 'Congratulations' is almost two years old now. We have some ideas and have been talking about possible directions of where to go next."
"We are just in much more positive mental states than when we wrote 'Congratulations'. We're less anxious.

The Mgmt boys get down to work in a music video directed by So Me to support their single called "It's Working". Reading a construction manual book they found inside a box, the two-piece band try their best to build a machine.
"In it, Ben and I find this box and these instructions to put together a machine that's constantly changing, and we end up losing control over it," Andrew Vanwyngarden told Pitchfork. "Saying this now, it sounds so metaphorical for our musical career, which is really funny."
The album where "It's Working" appears is titled "Congratulations". Mgmt's second studio album which has been in stores since April this year, it debuted at No. 2 on Billboard Hot 200 with 66,000 units and became the band's best sales week.

It’s not as if Mgmt’s videos are in any way, shape or form linear, but we actually think we may understand what’s going on in the brand new clip for “It’s Working,” and that scares us a little. We also know it has more bright colors than a bagful of Skittles and we dig that a lot. French artist So Me, who has worked with Kanye West and Kid Cudi, directed the clip, the second video from Mgmt’s sophomore album, “Congratulations.” In the mini-movie, Mgmt’s Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden build a box with complicated instructions and lots of tools. But...

"I love being happy. I'm not Precious," actress Gabourey Sidibe crooned cheekily during her monologue as host of this week's "Saturday Night Live," featuring musical guest Mgmt.
The Academy Award-nominated star of "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire" took to the Studio 8H stage to perform a doo-wop-style opening number, making light of the confusion between her and the downtrodden character she portrays in the film. "Movies are not real life. That's something you should know," she sang, adding, "Mariah Carey doesn't have a mustache."
The 26-year-old then sped through a hodgepodge of largely loud-mouthed and irritated characters. She donned dreadlocks to play a Jamaican nurse hawking a heal-thyself manual opposite Kristen Wiig's Suze Orman. She...

Mgmt have revealed that they felt 'uncomfortable' at this year's Grammys, despite being nominated for two awards. The Brooklyn duo, who were nominated for 'Best New Artist' and 'Best Pop Performance by a Duo/Group', claim that they felt like outsiders because the ceremony focused on a small group of high-profile artists, The Canadian Press reports.
