The last time Meghan Trainor dropped an album in late January 2020, the world was weeks away from being shut down. And despite having bops like “Nice to Meet Ya” with Nicki Minaj, a collab with the Pussycat Dolls, and earworms like “Funk” and “Evil Twin,” Treat Myself easily became one of Trainor’s most underrated works.
Plus, with the pandemic-caused lockdowns, Trainor was unable to perform a single song from the pop-perfect record. “It was sad and heartbreaking. I was like, ‘Well, this sucks,’ ” Trainor tells Rolling Stone.

Rita Wilson stares down her own mortality on the inspiring new single, “Throw Me a Party.” Wilson carries the buoyant tempo with her soft croon that seems to float above a pristine blend of piano, drums and guitar. The lyrics, cowritten by Wilson, Liz Rose and Sugarland’s Kristian Bush, reflect that balance with pain and resolve. “So when I’m gone throw me a party/You should dance as if I was there/Don’t be sad or be broken-hearted/Just send your voices up in the air.”

Two dozen female music-makers recently gathered in YouTube’s Los Angeles Space for SheWrites, a new women-only songwriting camp sponsored by YouTube and founded by longtime industry insiders Charlie McClean and Violet Skies.
The camp, which included attendees like star violinist Lindsey Stirling (who got her start on YouTube and now has more than 11 million subscribers) and Mozella, the songwriter behind Miley Cyrus’ hit “Wrecking Ball,” was intended to foster honest, raw music made in just one day, entirely by women, Variety reports. YouTube donated gear, instruments and furniture for the camp, along with fellow sponsors Steinberg, Kobalt, Adam Audio, and Native Instruments.
“Women are the biggest consumers of music, yet we have music written about women sung by women being written by men,” McClean said. “Think about ‘Run the World’ by Beyoncé — written by men and Beyoncé. There are so many examples of that. It doesn’t mean that guys are bad.

One Direction released their new song "Perfect" Friday, and according to the band's fans it's, well, "perfect." It's the second single from their fifth album Made in the A.M., which is set for release on Friday, Nov. 13. The song follows the success of "Drag Me Down," the boy band's first single since Zayn Malik quit earlier this year. Band members Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles wrote the song along with Jacob Kasher, John Ryan, Maureen Anne McDonald and producers Julian Bunetta, Jesse Shatkin. Afterhrs also produced the song. After a snippet was released earlier this week, many blogs speculated that the song was about Styles' ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift; he has not commented on...

The Life As We Know It soundtrack. The Black Keys seem to pop up on one out of three contemporary American comedy soundtracks (legal disclaimer: this figure was plucked haphazardly from the reviewer’s head and actual comparisons with reality may be tenuous). This could be for several reasons. First of all, The Black Keys are currently one of the best lo-fi rock and roll outfits in the world, and have been for several years. Guitarist/singer Dan Auerbach is Jack White without the column inches, and his solo album is incredible. Second of all, getting their tunes on OSTs is probably a nice little earner for Dan and Patrick, and I don’t begrudge them it one bit. They toil for our sins, making genuinely great music that is never going to make them rich. Third of all, they’re a very easy choice for manicured and moisturised California...
