In the science fiction drama "Moon," Sam Rockwell spends most of his time acting opposite himself, playing two clones of a man working in a lunar laboratory. And how did Rockwell find working with Rockwell as a scene partner? "Very difficult," the actor says, sighing. "He's a very selfish actor."It seems like Rockwell is everywhere lately, and not just playing multiple versions of himself in "Moon." He also stole scenes in November's "Gentlemen Broncos" and can now be seen as Robert De Niro's son in the comedy-drama "Everybody's Fine." In that film, Rockwell is extremely effective as a man desperate not to disappoint his father. It's a surprisingly low-key performance for the actor, who seems to veer toward more-offbeat roles—think the sex addict who might be related to Jesus in last year's "Choke" or the game-show host who doubles as a CIA spy in "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

With Oscar buzz for his performance in 'Moon' and 'Iron Man 2' on the way, Rockwell has a lot to be thankful for.

Was there a more inventive performance in 2009 than Sam Rockwell's in "Moon"? Or, we should say, the performances of the many, many Sam Rockwells who show up in this sci-fi mind-bender about outer space, isolation and technology? The actor took a risk with first-time director Duncan Jones and the gamble paid off big time: The movie was one of the coolest of the year and Rockwell has rightly been mentioned as a potential Oscar candidate.
So MTV News must express our gratitude during this week in which we are giving thanks to the best films and brightest performances of the year. But when it comes to Rockwell, we're also thankful for a movie we haven't seen yet: "Iron Man 2,...

Sam Rockwell meets Sam Rockwell on an inner-space journey.
Sam Rockwell in "Moon"

Making a sci-fi outer-space movie for $5 million has to be like building a palace on pocket change. English director Duncan Jones has done it, though. "Moon," his first feature, an assemblage of miniature models, carefully applied CGI, meticulous production design and an extraordinary performance by Sam Rockwell, takes — or returns — cinematic science fiction to some fascinating places.
Rockwell plays Sam Bell, an employee of Lunar Industries, a company engaged in mining Helium-3 on the far side of the moon for use in energy production back on Earth. After three years of isolation at the moon base, monitoring the Lunar machinery, Sam will soon be rotating back home, where his wife and daughter are waiting for him. It's been grueling duty: The live-communication satellite intended to serve the base has been broken forever, and so...

Four clips from Duncan Jones’ “Moon” have arrived to alleviate your boring, 3-year stint on the moon. What, you’re not doing a 3-year stint on the moon like the hero of “Moon”? Lucky you, because it doesn’t sound like good things are in store for our hero, and you can catch it in theaters June 12. If there’s one thing you instantly get from these clips is that this is one moody picture. That, and man, Kevin Spacey’s voice is really creepy. Astronaut Sam Bell has a quintessentially personal encounter toward the end of his three-year stint on the Moon, where he, working alongside his computer, Gerty, sends back to Earth parcels of a resource that has helped diminish our planet’s power problems. Starring Matt Berry, Robin Chalk, Dominique McElligott, Sam Rockwell, Kaya Scodelario, Kevin Spacey, Malcolm Stewart, and Benedict Wong. Written and directed by Duncan Jones.

If you get seasick easily, or are prone to suffering from motion sickness, then I would advise not clicking on to see the poster for Duncan Jones’ “Moon”, starring Sam Rockwell as an astronaut on the moon who is about to finish up his 3-year contract for a private company, when he starts to see very strange things — like himself, dying. Sam ends up saving himself, which is even weirder. “Moon” stars Sam Rockwell as the astronaught and Kevin Spacey as the voice of the base’s computer, which may or may not be trying to kill Sam. You know, self-aware machines are so dependable until they start plotting against you. Also starring Kaya Scodelario, Matt Berry, Dominique McElligott, Malcolm Stewart, Benedict Wong, and Robin Chalk. The film is scheduled for September 3. And in case you missed it, the “Moon” trailer was released to the masses here. Update: New, corrected poster.
