'Hollyoaks' boss Bryan Kirkwood has come under fire for making the soap ''too gay''. The Channel 4 soap - which is aimed at teenagers - is famous for its controversial storylines and has featured dozens of gay relationships, but producer Bryan has admitted not all viewers are happy with his choices. He said: ''We get told off all the time for being too gay and having too many gay characters. ''I don't think you can be too gay, quite frankly. ''The idea that people object to two boys kissing is really bizarre to me.'' However, the former 'EastEnders' boss has admitted he sometimes goes...

'Hollyoaks' boss Bryan Kirkwood is ''very, very proud'' of his cast. The showrunner has paid tribute to the stars of the Channel 4 soap ahead of this week's shocking scenes, which sees the wedding of Porsche McQueen and Lockie Campbell derailed in dramatic fashion when their party train crashes. Bryan said: ''I'm so proud of this cast. I'm well aware of how our show can occasionally be put down in really lazy, out-of-date ways, but I think our turns are fantastic. ''Our performances are shoulder-to-shoulder with every other show on TV. I'm very, very proud of every one of them.'' Bryan was particularly...

Coronation Street
My favorite moment of this week came when Eileen, after the truth about Maria and Marcus had been revealed, told them that they were selfish idiots who had hurt a lot of people with their deception. She spoke the truth when she predicted this would end in a lot of tears because Marcus would be unable to change who he is, a gay man. I’ve said that from the beginning of this storyline and if that was a foreshadowing moment, I have to say I agree.
As much as I find Maria and Marcus sweet together, I do think that Marcus seems to have ‘adjusted’ to his new life awfully quickly. Yes, he had a brief moment of ‘confusion’, but he got over that fast. And is it just me, or does it seem that now that Marcus is sleeping with Maria, we...

Neighbours
I guess I shouldn’t be shocked that now that Chris and Aidan are back together, they’d return to their old roles of supporting players in everyone else’s drama. Sadly, we don’t even get any scenes of them enjoying being back together or working to get the point they were before the split as they were nearly living together back then, though Chris did casually mention they were taking things slow. Let’s hope we get some insight to their relationship as it goes forward, though given this show’s history, I have my doubts.
As for the drama we did see, I really find Chris’ endless support of Andrew to be annoying. As Tash and Summer rightfully pointed out, Andrew screwed Chris over and would do it again. And he barely apologized for nearly ruining Chris’ life and almost bankrupting Chris’ family.

EastEnders
I’m kind of torn about this past week’s EastEnders. On one hand, I’m enjoying this final arc for Christian and Syed and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. It’s really nice to see Christian and Syed in a solid storyline that is actually about them and their relationship. They have gotten very little of that over the past couple of years as the show has allowed them to languish on the backburner, even as they proved to be a very popular and beloved duo. The writers simply, for whatever reason, didn’t want to write for them.
And to me, this storyline shows that when the show actually gives them the material, they can be compelling. I just wish the material was a bit better because I’m not quite sure if I buy Syed’s behavior.

As I’ve said before, this storyline continues to be absolutely terrific and consistently entertaining and engaging. Yes, it’s your typical coming out drama, but the show gives us interesting twists and turns, some wonderful performances and fantastic writing to make this one of the best gay sagas currently running. There were a lot of nice moments I loved in this clip, but I first want to address something from last week’s episode since there was no column last week.

Letitia Dean – one of the original Eastenders cast members – will be returning to the ailing soap on 13 August. The producers hope Dean can reignite interest in the show after a series of cast changes and bizarre storylines drove long term viewers to reach for the remote. Network executives recently replaced executive producer Bryan Kirkwood whose own attempts to revive the show backfired spectacularly as cast members publicly criticized his handling of the programme. There are things I liked about this clip. I liked that Esther was put out because Woulter wanted to have the party for him and Thomas at their house instead of hers. She’s a controlling woman so it’s no surprise she would hate changes put upon her by Thomas’ latest squeeze. Her being snippy about the event was the highlight of the clip, as was the shouting match between her and Eva. But I think Thomas and Woulter’s sudden coupledom is quite rushed.
Why are they rushing this?

I’m glad Amira has finally gotten the message, given up on Syed and left town. Given that Syed cheated on her for over a year with Christian, ended their marriage to be with Christian and wanted nothing more than to be with Christian after Christian dumped him late last year, it’s pretty clear that he’s just not that into her. I just hope she doesn’t give him a hard time about finally getting a divorce and lets him see his daughter regularly without a hassle. Her character has worn out her welcome, and it’s time to move on. I will miss scenes of Christian and Amira being bitchy to each other though. That was always fun to watch.
As for Zainab finally confessing that she purposefully sent Yusef to his death, which led to Tamwar being seriously burned, it was a moment long in coming.

EastEnders bosses have promised that Phil Mitchell's reaction to his son Ben's sexuality will be a big storyline for the soap in the months ahead. Phil (Steve McFadden) lashed out at Ben (Joshua Pascoe) in last night's episode after the teenager came clean over his feud with Patrick Trueman, admitting that the tense situation began when the shopkeeper saw him kissing someone. But underneath that cool and brittle façade, Ava has a secret past which she is constantly trying to get away from but will it follow her to Albert Square?
Sophie graduated from Guildhall drama school in 2009 and has previously appeared in a number of film and TV productions including Channel 4's The It Crowd. "Who ever thought working [on E20] could be so much fun!" confesses Sophie. "It has been amazing experience"

Sam filmed her final scenes with us a few weeks ago and we'll see her exit storyline unfold over the coming weeks. EastEnders' executive producer Bryan Kirkwood has said that he stands by the decision to show gay couple Christian Clarke and Syed Masood in bed together in a recent episode of the soap. The episode in question sparked complaints from a handful of viewers who felt that the pair's scene was "inappropriate". Official figures released earlier this week showed that 125 people had contacted the corporation to complain about the matter. However, 77 messages were also sent from viewers who praised EastEnders for including the scene. Responding to the complaints during an appearance on This Morning today, Kirkwood commented: "I think EastEnders was the first soap to broadcast a gay kiss about 24, 25 years ago so it's only taken them 25 years to get into the bedroom from the living room! "I think that we showed a heterosexual (more)...

EastEnders star Nitin Ganatra has praised the show's bosses for exploring a darker side to his character Masood Ahmed in his current storylines. Fans of the BBC soap have recently seen Masood driven to desperate measures due to his dangerous rivalry with local doctor Yusef Khan (Ace Bhatti), who has managed to cause big problems in his marriage to Zainab (Nina Wadia). Ganatra has now revealed that he made the suggestion for more depth to Masood's character in one of his early consultations with EastEnders chief Bryan Kirkwood. The actor explained: "I remember that when Bryan Kirkwood came in as executive producer, in one of my first meetings with him I said, 'Let's explore Masood - I don't think that he's ever really been explored in any depth'. Danielle Harold joins Eastenders. Co BBC
Up and coming actress Danielle Harold is set to join the cast of Eastenders as the long lost, or rather – never before heard about – granddaughter of Billy Mitchell. It was inevitable that Executive producer Bryan Kirkwood would find a long lost relative to join the Mitchell clan after introducing a bunch of estranged relatives to the Square in recent months. First came Anne Mitchell as Tanya’s Mum, then David Essex as Aflie’s uncle and only two weeks ago we heard that Polly Perkins is set to join the cast as Dot’s sister. Ian Beale is in need of some loving so maybe his long lost fair Godmother will be next to arrive in the square.
18 year old Danielle will play 15 year old Lola, who is living in care when she is found by her grandparents Billy and Julie. The character is described as sharp and cocky.
