Actor Andrew Buchan makes his screenwriting debut with ITV thriller Passenger, and here’s the trailer.
Andrew Buchan is probably best known for playing grieving father Mark Latimer in Chris Chibnall’s whodunnit Broadchurch. He has also played the title role in drama The Fixer, as well as parts in films like Nowhere Boy, All The Money In The World and The Mercy.
He now makes his screenwriting debut with ITV thriller Passenger.
The synopsis reads as follows:
Riya (Loki star Wunmi Mosaku) arrived in the quiet town of Chadder Vale five years ago and has since been searching for something, anything that will make her feel alive again. Then one night local girl Katie Wells (Rowan Robinson) mysteriously disappears. The town barely has time to register her absence before she reappears the next day, apparently safe and sound. The townsfolk ask few questions and normal life resumes. But for Riya,...

Two years ago, Amazon Studios established itself as a significant Oscar player, winning two of six bids for the domestic drama “Manchester by the Sea” as well as Best Foreign Language Feature for “The Salesman.” Last year, the streaming service found success with “The Big Sick,” which reaped a bid for its original screenplay. This year, it has partnered with various distributors to release three films with great Oscar potential.
Timothee Chalamet is following up his Oscar nominated performance in the gay romance “Call Me by Your Name” with the real-life family drama “Beautiful Boy” in which he portrays a meth addict who struggles to overcome his addiction with the support of his father (Steve Carell). The film is the first in English from Belgian director Felix Van Groeningen (“The Broken Circle Breakdown”). Luke Davies (“Lion”) adapted the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff.

Sure, there's a chewy Lgbtq true-crime doc, a stand-up comic's most personal special yet, another new anthology show, a late-night talkfest starring Sarah Silverman, a standout movie from Noah Baumbach and not one but two historical serial-killer dramas. But what you're waiting for is the return of Stranger Things, and rest assured, you're about to have your Reagan-era nostalgia itch oh-so-mightily scratched. Here's the lowdown on what you'll be streaming over the next month.

The latest in BBC Three's 'Murdered By' series is a powerful look at the devastation caused by intolerance...
We exist in a time when pointless, devastating violence is an all-too common occurrence, whether it’s knife crime amongst teenagers, terrorism or people simply letting their opposing views turn into physical conflicts. Goodbye Christopher Robin is a film that tells the story behind the creation of the beloved characters of Winnie The Pooh. It follows the lives of author A.A. Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) and his wife Daphne (Margot Robbie) as they raise their son Christopher Robin (Will Tilston). It looks like a wonderful imaginative film that is beautifully shot. It's set after World War I and follows the family as they find fame and success with Pooh. At the core, this is a father and son story.
The movie was directed by Simon Curtis (My Week With Marilyn, Woman in Gold) and today we have the first trailer for you to watch. But first, here's the official synopsis:
Goodbye Christopher Robin gives a rare glimpse into the relationship between beloved children's author A. A. Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) and his son Christopher Robin, whose toys inspired the magical world of Winnie the Pooh.

We’ve seen many variations of the animated Winnie the Pooh, but now he’s coming to life in a new feature — or more precisely, how he came to life is captured. Goodbye Christopher Robin follows author A.A. Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) and his wife Daphne (Margot Robbie) as they raise their son Christopher Robin (Will Tilston). Directed by Simon Curtis (My Week With Marilyn, Woman in Gold), the first trailer has landed today ahead of a fall release.
Scripted by Frank Cottrell Boyce and Simon Vaughn, the film explores the Milne family as they encounter fame following World War I and specifically the father-son relationship at the center. Judging from the first preview, it’s as saccharine as you’d expect from this director, but hopefully the emotions are earned. Check out the trailer and poster below for the film also starring Kelly Macdonald, Stephen Campbell Moore, Alex Lawther, Richard McCabe,...

“Finding Neverland” turned the creation of “Peter Pan” into an Oscar-nominated drama back in 2004, and Fox Searchlight is surely hoping that’s the case for its upcoming A.A. Milne biopic. The author created the children’s classic “Winnie the Pooh,” and he’ll be the subject of the untitled drama that will also focus on the coming-of-age of Milne’s son, Christopher Robbin. Fox Searchlight has announced production is officially underway in Oxfordshire, Surrey, East Sussex and London, and some new first look photos have debuted on USA Today to mark the occasion.

Winnie the Pooh has seen a number of iterations over the years, but now he’s getting his own biopic of sorts. More precisely, it follows author A.A. Once titled Goodbye Christopher Robin and currently going by the hopefully soon-to-be-changed The Untitled A.A. Milne Project, the first images have now arrived.

Don't be put off by its glib, teen-oriented title, E4's My Mad Fat Diary was brilliantly funny, well-written, proper human drama...
As an outsider looking in, My Mad Fat Diary never appeared to be selling what I wanted to buy. Bowing to the logic that anyone who zanily declares ‘I’m mad, me!’ in real life deserves to be given a wide berth, its big, fat gypsy-wedding-alike title didn’t appeal.
Neither did its teen-skewed content, or as much of it as I’d glimpsed from E4’s promos. Cheesy love triangles and mooning over pop stars? Not for me.

There are some questions that you think you're going to know the answer to when you ask them. So when I questioned My Mad Fat Diary star Jodie Comer about whether she thought fans would be happy with the ending to the show, I thought I could guess what she would say.
But then she replied: "No, I don't think they will. I think the fans feel so emotional and so strong towards it that I think some people have a really strong want for certain things that maybe possibly didn't happen and they're just going to have to come to terms with that. I don't think it's going to be, 'I didn't like that episode', I think it's going to be more like, 'No, that's not what I wanted to happen!' Well, that's what happens, so we're going to have to deal with that."
Classic My Mad Fat Diary.

My Mad Fat Diary is back for its third - and final - series this month, and we have your very first look at the gang in the new episodes.
E4 has just popped over this first look picture, featuring Rae (Sharon Rooney), Izzy (Ciara Baxendale), Archie (Dan Cohen), Finn (Nico Mirallegro), Chloe (Jodie Comer), Chop (Jordan Murphy) and Danny (Darren Evans) sitting together in the pub.
We found out in February that the third series of My Mad Fat Diary, made up of three hour-long episodes, will be the last.
The new instalments will see the group planning for their futures, with Chloe looking into attending business school and Finn wanting to settle down.
Meanwhile, Rae will meet a new friend - played by Game of Thrones, Glue and Fresh Meat star Faye Marsay - who "forces her to see everything differently".

Common BBC Jimmy McGovern
c
The highly controversial Joint Enterprise Law caused a stir when it was revived in the UK because it enables the police to implicate sometimes unwitting individuals in criminal investigations. It was only a matter of time before Jimmy McGovern — champion of justice and the working class — got to work on a gritty drama based around the unpopular law.
Common began with naive teenager Jonjo driving his older cousin and some mates to get a pizza. Unbeknownst to him they actually planned to rough someone up. Worse still, things didn’t quite go to plan and an innocent bystander ended up being stabbed. Despite threats of recrimination from the killer, Jonjo opted to take the higher moral ground and promptly told the police precisely what had transpired. Sadly for him, the lead detective had an emotional attachment to the victim’s mother and he was determined...

Jimmy McGovern’s new one-off BBC drama, Common, seeks to highlight the controversies of the Joint Enterprise doctrine…
Feature
In 1846, two men named John Swindall and James Osborne engaged in a cart race on a public road that caused the death of a pedestrian. Only one vehicle had killed the victim, but as both had encouraged the other to drive dangerously, Swindall and Osborne were judged to be acting on a common intention and were both charged with manslaughter. The case ushered in the Joint Enterprise doctrine in English law, whereby two or more people who agree to commit a crime together are liable for the criminal actions of other members of their group.
Joint Enterprise. It sounds like a judicious scheme. Why should members of a group who set out with the common goal of murder evade justice only because they didn’t - or it couldn’t be...

BBC One will air Common, a feature-length film by Cracker creator Jimmy McGovern, on Sunday the 6th of July...
Trailer
It may not have a sci-fi, fantasy or cult bone in its body, but it's tremendous original UK drama and as such, we didn't think you'd mind us sneaking Jimmy McGovern's Common onto the site.
Due to air on BBC One on Sunday the 6th of July, the ninety-minute film tells the story of a teenager dragged into a murder investigation that threatens to upturn his entire life. The cast, as McGovern's casts tend to be, has no weak links, from Game Of Thrones' Michelle Fairley and Robert Pugh to Susan Lynch, Daniel Mays, Jodhi May and relative newcomer Nico Mirallegro.
Here's the first trailer for the feature-length drama from the creator of Cracker, The Street and the terrific Accused.

Top Boy has been dropped by Channel 4, and will not return for a third series, according to lead Ashley Walters.
The gritty UK drama concluded its second series in September 2013, having won critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase thanks to its original take on life on the streets of London.
In an interview with Shortlist magazine, Walters said: "We had a third series in mind, which is why the second was left the way it was, but it hasn't been commissioned again.

It's BAFTA night, and while we're not at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane with all the best and brightest from the last year of television, at least we can join the party from our sofas. Yep, we'll be blogging along with the awards - which start at 8pm on BBC One - so grab your slippers and a cuppa and join in by tweeting @digitalspy and leaving your comments below...
And as a reminder, the awards actually start in "real life" at 7pm - but we'll be doggedly going along with the television broadcast and pretending we're not an hour behind everyone else, so there's no fear of spoilers. If you want things as they happen, we'll be updating our winners' list here.

After months of mostly posting cute pictures of himself and Rocky in matching outfits, Russell Tovey finally gives us what we want – him in his underwear. While it must have been chilly for him to resort to the thermals above, he does manage to make them look good.
And proving that he’s got a body that is horribly under used on Looking, we get a shot of him backstage on the final day of his play The Pass, with Nico Mirallegro and Donwton Abbey‘s Gary Carr.
Let’s hope they take good advantage of this now that Russell is a series regular on Looking.

We love My Mad Fat Diary. We are beyond excited that it is back on the television tonight. But then, we didn't write the very real diaries upon which it is based. On the other hand, Rae Earl did - and she's watched as Sharon Rooney, Nico Mirallegro and the rest bring them to life... But what does she think?
Well, Digital Spy was lucky enough to meet the real Rae - especially because she lives in Tasmania these days - and she chatted with reporters about what it's like seeing her life transferred to TV. Read on to find out about the show's surprising fans, what she likes about star Sharon Rooney, why she's thrilled Claire Rushbrook stars as Rae's mum, and much more...
