Stephen Fry has opened up about his drug use earlier on in his career.
The broadcaster and writer has detailed his past drug habit in his new autobiography More Fool Me, including a collection of diary entries from the time.
Speaking to Alan Carr on Chatty Man, Fry said: "This is a particular period of my life which saw me kind of having achieved a certain amount of success, and therefore one would expect enjoying life to the full, and I somewhat overdid it.
"People are very disappointed in me, and they're right to be, to learn that I had these drug years, and I wanted to put it into the book without boasting, without seeming proud of it, and on the other hand without it being a constant hand-wringing, 'Oh I was a victim of this and that', because I don't think I was a victim, I was a fool.

Ruth Jones is developing a new sitcom for BBC One, it has been revealed.
BBC comedy controller Shane Allen has confirmed that the Gavin & Stacey co-creator and star will front a new show, that may form part of a second season of Comedy Playhouse projects in 2015.
He added that Jones's company Tidy Productions may choose to produce a non-transmission pilot episode.
"Ruth is fantastic and we'd love to do something with her," he told Broadcast. "We were talking studio shows and she would be absolutely perfect for that."
Meanwhile, Allen has ordered six episodes of The Kennedys, a sitcom written by Celebrity MasterChef winner Emma Kennedy. The show will be based on her family life.
iPlayer will also stream a second series of comedy shorts, following this year's sketches from the likes of Frankie Boyle and Micky Flanagan. They will be released around Valentine's Day.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year (again), and as usual it’s getting to those last few weeks before the big day when creative ideas and planning make way for frantic grabs at whatever is left on the shelves after the Black Friday zombie hordes have cleared everything out.
But fear not: because the best of Christmas is watching movies, re-watching old TV specials and trying hard to forget that George Lucas ever decided that anyone wanted a Star Wars Christmas show, there’ll always be a helping hand round these parts for those who want it.
So if you’re buying for a difficult brother, a picky sister or just for the film, gaming or TV fan in your life, what follows is a compendium of the finest gift ideas for this year’s festivities, as usual there are massive opportunities to win most of what has been included…...

Micky Flanagan has showcased a daring new look for his Detour de France documentary series.
The comedian and his friend Noel Lynch travelled across France for the trip show, which Flanagan previously described as "not a travelogue".
In tonight's (November 17) episode, Flanagan and Lynch head to the south of France where they encounter a gypsy festival, a winemaker and an artistic gardener, before visiting the psychiatric hospital which was once home to artist Vincent van Gogh.
The boys also take a trip to Monaco, where they embark on a bike ride with former F1 driver David Coulthard.
However, the trip takes an interesting turn when the pair head to Cannes and visit a transvestite bar, where they are persuaded to give drag a go. And the results truly are a sight to behold!
Micky Flanagan's Detour de France continues tonight at 9pm on Sky1.

Michael Palin has said that he is unsure whether to produce a new travel series.
The Monty Python star has filmed eight travel documentary series since 1988, his latest being 2012's Brazil.
However, he has not made any plans to film a ninth, as it takes up a large amount of time to complete.
"I did think about it," he told Digital Spy and others. "To do the series properly, especially if there's a book attached, that's two years of work.
"I'm pretty certain that I couldn't give up two years of my life. That is something about getting older, you start thinking, 'Well, I've got a certain limited amount of time'.
"I want to be light on my feet, doing things like [drama] Remember Me or an arts documentary, rather than commit to two years of being away. I've got two grandsons now, and I don't want to be saying, 'Sorry,...

Micky Flanagan has given an update about his plans to star in a sitcom.
The stand-up comedian first announced his hopes to lead a new comedy series last year, and has now said that he wants to find the right script.
"I'm getting sent various scripts which I'm going through slowly," he told Digital Spy.
"The idea is to get myself in a position where I either write a show myself or be in someone else's show if the fit is right, where I can sort of be myself."
He added: "I'm not an actor, but [Jerry] Seinfeld couldn't act and it didn't matter because the show was good enough. The last thing you want to do is be a bad actor on a bad show.
"Ideally I want to do a show that's just slightly removed from who I actually am, a more exaggerated version."

"The 30s also feel like a more momentous decade than my 20s - my thoughts involuntarily turning towards more permanent things, relationships that will last and where I want to settle down. But I'm still at an age where I should be enjoying my freedom and taking risks and making mistakes."

Thanks to fellow locker of shadows Richard Cosgrove I found myself heading sweaty palmed into London. A hearty Mcdonalds saw this country mouse ready for action among the snooty town mice and so having left my rubbish on the Kindertransport memorial (as is the custom) I set out for the Ministry of Sound. I really did think it would be bigger, the legendary Ministry and it was not at all like the Ministries in Orwell's 1984 which you can see for miles around and that saddened me.

Richard Ayoade shot to fame as Moss in The It Crowd but it was Submarine, his debut behind the camera, that won him critical acclaim. As his new film, The Double, is released, he talks about pride, performing and giving up his pop dreams
The premise of Fyodor Dostoevsky's 1846 novella The Double is simple but ingenious: a man lives an entirely unremarkable existence until one day his exact doppelganger shows up. This incongruous situation fast becomes insufferable for two reasons: first, the new guy is slick where he is stammering, popular where he's forgettable, Day-Glo to his beige; and, second, because no one else notices any likeness at all between the pair of them.
The Double, it's said, is meant as an allegory: the straight man is Dostoevsky in real life, shy and often awkward; the arriviste is the author 2.0, the person he sometimes wished he was, who is quick-witted and irresistible to women.

Micky Flanagan has defended BBC One's comedy panel quiz I Love My Country.
The 51-year-old comedian defended the game show - which faced a backlash from some critics and viewers - in an interview with Metro, but added that he is unsure if the format will be revisited for a second series.
"Some people loved it, others weren't so keen but that's the nature of true art," Flanagan said.
"I enjoyed the show. It reclaimed Saturday night TV for the family and took it away from people who think they can change their lives by singing a song."
Flanagan admitted that I Love My Country "divided opinion" but called the series - hosted by Gabby Logan and also featuring comic Frank Skinner - a "brave effort".
London-born Flanagan recently revealed that he is planning a sitcom based loosely on his own life and experiences.

Micky Flanagan has revealed that he is writing a new TV sitcom.
The comedian is drafting the pilot episode of a new project based loosely on his own life and experiences.
"I've been sitting down writing the first drafts of a sitcom which I want to do," he told BBC Breakfast.
"It's going to be purely based on me. I didn't want to expand beyond that. I know myself. Write about what you know."
When asked by Bill Turnbull if "it's about an East End boy who makes good and then eats organic food and stuff", Flanagan confirmed: "Yes, and then occasionally pops to KFC for a treat."
Flanagan turned to comedy at the age of 34 in 1996, eventually being nominated for an Edinburgh Comedy Award 11 years later.
It is currently not known what style of sitcom the show will be, or which channel it may air on.

TV Pick of the Week
Southcliffe, Channel 4's new four-part drama about a spree killing in an English village, was always going to be too relentlessly bleak for some tastes. However, if you could stomach the storyline, the first two episodes of the series (oddly scheduled on successive evenings) were utterly captivating television.
Unflinching, bold and harrowing, it posed uncomfortable questions and didn't hold back or censor the experience for viewers.
Sean Harris's performance as local outsider 'The Commander' was pitch perfect and scarily real, while Rory Kinnear as homecoming TV reporter and Anatol Yusef as sleazy cheat Paul, who loses his family in the tragedy, are also worthy of special note in a series that is overflowing with stunning actors and gut-wrenching moments.
Yes, the lingering camera shots were possibly a bit over-egged. And, yes, the regular jumping backwards and forwards in time was slightly frustrating. However,...

Its opening episode tonight was 50 minutes of TV vomit that left an almighty stench. I Love My Country? I Love My Sick Bucket would be more appropriate.
At least you get the sense with Your Face Sounds Familiar that everyone involved knows it's trash and is wallowing in its sheer awfulness. Bobby Davro just looks chuffed to be back on primetime TV, even if does mean dressing up as Tammy Wynette.

He may be reviled, but the highest-earning comedian around is this era's Tommy Cooper or Eric Morecambe … and a class act
Title: Live and Laughing
Year: 2008
The set-up: Is it provocative to say that Michael McIntyre is a great stand-up comedian? Certainly there is a mould of greatness that he doesn't fit. The outsider, the fearless truth-teller, born brilliant, but struggling commercially and personally because he can't shake off his destiny to challenge the complacent world ... This a noble calling, but it's not his.
McIntyre is an ex-public schoolboy (albeit one who had to leave after his parents ran out of money). He is a multi-multimillionaire, now said to be the highest-earning stand-up comedian in the world. He is Mr Mainstream, famous for his (relatively) clean material, and promoted on television. This, McIntyre's first DVD, was the fastest-selling debut DVD there'd ever been. It is a rough analogy, but in...

Harry Hill has revealed that he hoped TV Burp would continue under a new host.
The comedian departed the ITV entertainment show after 11 years in 2012, as he did not enjoy the job as much as he used to.
Hill explained that he had spoken to stand-up comic Micky Flanagan about possibly taking over the reins, but this did not materialise.
"I don't miss it. I probably did it for a couple of years longer than I should have done for my own sanity," he told Heat.
"I do miss watching it, and I was hoping that someone else would take over. I was talking to Micky Flanagan, and I was hoping he would do it.
"It's a lot of work, though. I'm the only mug that would do it."
Hill added that working on TV Burp meant that he had to undergo a rehab of sorts with television, as he...

Harry Hill wanted Micky Flanagan to take over 'TV Burp'. Micky Flanagan takes a beating after stepping into the ring with two female wrestlers on this week's edition of A League of Their Own. The comedian slips into tiny trunks to take on The Blossom Twins for the 'quick fire round' in tonight's episode of the Sky1 panel show. Team mates Jamie Redknapp and London 2012 gold medalist Jessica Ennis are then challenged by host James Corden to answer as many questions as possible before Flanagan 'submits' to the wrestlers. ‘Not the worst film this year’. That’s my bid for a poster quote right there. The second worst? You’re damn right it is. That’s My Boy is a film that opens with an audience full of children and teachers cheering a teacher/pupil molestation case and goes downhill from there. A thirteen year old boy having sex with his naked teacher? Check. A crime spree father/son bonding exercise? Check. Incest? Check. Child abuse, crime and incest played for laughs? Triple check.
I realise that my introduction there contained some mild spoilers but to be fair, who cares? The plot? Well it’s got an opening about as telling of the quality of the film as the mere presence of Adam Sandler. It starts with a 12 year old boy called Donnie Berger getting seduced by his ‘hot’ teacher Mrs McGarricle. Cut to sex noises in an assembly,...

The rising price of comedy, Harry Hill post-TV Burp – plus, a new Bill and Ted adventure, and your take on the week's comedy
Comedy news from Edinburgh
It's week two of the fringe, and unease about low audience figures continues to thrum beneath the surface jollity. Richard Herring broke cover at the end of last week, writing on his blog about his own experience of low sales for his Underbelly show Talking Cock. "It's a shame that I have taken the chance on a bigger venue," he writes, "in the year when the Olympics/the recession/the dissatisfaction with high prices of everything in Edinburgh (delete or add as applicable – there's no definitive answer) has sucked out all the punters as if someone opened the door on a spacecraft."
In a thoughtful rumination on the subject, Herring predicts that the Edinburgh comedy bubble is about to burst. "It's open...

Frank Skinner's revived Room 101 ended its new series with a whimper last night (Friday, March 9), the latest overnight data indicates. With John Prescott, Micky Flanagan and Rebecca Front featuring, the vintage panel game revived for BBC One slumped to 2.95m (12.2%) in its 8.30pm slot, nearly 800k down on where it started in January.
