The storytelling process often blurs lines, enabling creators to weave their magic subconsciously, and this holds true for one brutal Henry Cavill scene from Man of Steel. Indeed, the film has intriguingly likely influenced an iconic X-Men ‘97 finale moment involving Rogue, as revealed by Beau DeMayo. Well, a few weeks ago, we got to know about Bastion’s genesis in Tolerance Is Extinction – Part 1, which actually sent waves of nostalgia and surprise through the DC fandom.

Further enriching this, the X-Men ‘97 showrunner, through the candid windows of X, recently admitted that the finale beat of Rogue punching Bastion—a flourish of raw “emotion” rather than narrative need—was a ‘subconscious’ homage to Clark’s fervent defense of his earthly mother.

There’s no denying that the only major Superman villains to have gotten any limelight in the movies are Lex Luthor and General Zod. But given the opportunity, Superman helmer Zack Snyder would have introduced a different and more significant villain from the comics that would have changed the trajectory of his Man of Steel sequel.

Renowned filmmaker Zack Snyder noted spending countless hours percolating ideas for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). Among all the important details surrounding the project, Snyder mentioned discussing the idea of introducing a great antagonist for his second comic-book movie that majorly focused on the villain.

The villain for James Gunn's Superman, releasing in 2025, has yet to be confirmed, but the director may have just spoiled who it will be.
The Dcu's Superman has announced a stacked cast including several major Justice League superheroes, but plot details, including the identity of the movie's main villain, remain vague at best.
Past live-action Superman movies have pitted the Man of Steel against General Zod, Doomsday, and Lex Luthor, while other iconic villains from his rogues gallery such as Brainiac, Bizzaro, Metallo, and Parasite have gone largely ignored.

After Henry Cavill’s abrupt and unfortunate exit as Superman from the Dceu, David Corenswet is set to play the character in James Gunn’s new Dcu. Gunn has deliberately chosen a younger Superman to explore more of the character becoming this eponymous hero and balancing this with being Clark Kent on Earth.
Concept art for James Gunn’s Superman
Gunn’s Superman promises to be unique and a complete departure from the tone of Cavill’s dark portrayal of the character. While Cavill’s Superman used his powers more than showing his actual fighting skills, it looks like Corenswet’s Superman is going to maintain a balance between the two as the makers hired a top stunt double for Corenswet in the film.

Retired English actor Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the greatest actors in cinema’s history. Although picky, the actor won numerous accolades throughout his career. Most of his performances, if not all, have been critically acclaimed. The proof of this fact is that he has three Academy Awards, making him the actor with the most Academy Awards for Best Actor.
Back to the part about him being picky, Day-Lewis has rejected roles in some great movies. For instance, he rejected the lead role in 1993’s Philadelphia and the role of the vampire Lestat in 1994’s Interview with the Vampire.
Daniel Day-Lewis in My Left Foot
Another such role that Day-Lewis reportedly rejected was Batman. Zack Snyder once approached the actor for a role in Man of Steel, and it was not until much later that he revealed which role it was.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert premiered to a rapturous, midnight-screening reception at Cannes on May 15, 1994. The tart, feel-good comedy follows a trio of Sydney drag queens — Terrence Stamp, Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce — who travel by bus (that’s Priscilla) to a gig in the Outback, finding their way into hijinks and eye-popping outfits along the way. The film became a crossover sensation and even won an Oscar for its costumes (this despite having a costume budget of approximately $5,000). Its writer-director Stephan Elliott joins THR‘s It Happened in Hollywood podcast this week to reveal all about this making of the comedy classic on the cusp of its 30th birthday. Here are five facinating takeaways from the episode:
Guy Pearce Was Desperate to Shed his Soap Opera Image

Well, Schmoes, as 2023 finally draws to a close, we reflect on another unique year for movie fans. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes shook up the release schedule, but we still got a ton of movies on the big screen and via countless streaming platforms. If there is one thing for sure, there are always movies highly overrated and underrated by critics and fans alike. As the UnPopular Opinion Guy, I felt it was only fitting to issue my list of the movies I felt the masses got wrong. Some of these may shock you, and some may piss you off, but these are my honest-to-goodness perspective of the movies of 2023. If you disagree with any of the choices, please voice your opinion in the comments below. After all, the only opinion that really matters is yours, and I am just here to share mine.

At the time of its 1978 release, "Superman" was one of the most expensive films ever made, boasting a $55 million budget. To tell the story of the famous Man of Steel — an out-of-this-world superhero of immense strength that stood for American values — director Richard Donner's film had to be larger-than-life. The colors were vivid, the airborne special effects were (at the time) groundbreaking, and it had an outstanding cast that truly brought these beloved comic book characters to life and treated them as dynamic individuals.
Christopher Reeve, especially, gives a spectacular performance in the lead role. What he does best is clearly mark the differences and tension between his naive, dweeby alter ego Clark Kent and the formidable Superman. While the Kang Dynasty has not fallen, we dare say that its glory days are behind it. Because as of Wednesday afternoon, the film titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty just lost its director.
As per Deadline, which broke the news, Destin Daniel Cretton has moved off directing what is supposed to be the first Avengers film since 2019’s gargantuan Avengers: Endgame. Considering Cretton previously directed the well-received Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, this would be a surprise… except that according to the digital trade, Cretton is still onboard to possibly direct other Marvel Studios projects in the future. In other words, this appears to be less about Cretton stepping away from Kang Dynasty than Marvel possibly (and probably) stepping away from Kang.
The character, who is admittedly played with verve and presence by Jonathan Majors, has in fact been the center of plenty of internal handwringing at...

Warner Bros' DC Comics franchise is in dire need of an industrial-grade fumigation. When Christopher Nolan peaced out with the wildly uneven "The Dark Knight Rises" in 2012, the studio asked Zack Snyder to quarterback its DC Extended Universe answer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's "Avengers" initiative. Unfortunately, Snyder's "Man of Steel" not only fell short of commercial expectations, it cheesed off a sizable portion of the hero's fanbase (who were furious over Superman's out-of-character killing of General Zod). Rather than play the long game and focus on nailing the other main characters, DC panicked and greenlit "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," a cart-before-the-horse debacle that dampened reasonable people's expectations for a stirringly epic superhero saga.
Despite solo successes with 2017's "Wonder Woman" and 2018's "Aquaman," the stink clung to Snyder's "Justice League." A family tragedy forced him to leave the calling-all-superheroes production, and his replacement, Joss Whedon, could not...

The Flash, the latest DC movie, will be out on digital platforms on July 18, 2023. The film stars Ezra Miller as the fastest man alive, who goes back in time to save his mother, but changes the timeline and faces a new threat. The film also features Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Michael Shannon as General Zod, and Michael Keaton as an older Batman. Kiersey Clemons returns as Iris West, the love interest of the Flash.
The film received mixed reactions from critics and audiences, who liked the humor, action, and performances, but disliked the plot and effects. The film also had many production issues, such as director changes, pandemic delays, post-production problems, and controversies involving Miller.

Actor Michael Shannon rejected ‘Star Wars’ because he didn’t want to be “stuck in a franchise.” He was approached for a role in the sci-fi series in 2016 but said no as he considers the blockbusters to be “mindless entertainment.”

Though he’s often associated with intense roles like his Oscar-nominated turns in “Revolutionary Road” and “Nocturnal Animals,” Michael Shannon is funny. That’s now been well established. From scene-stealing cameos in “They Came Together” and “The Night Before” to his hilarious/terrifying reading of a viral sorority letter to often being the highlight of press junkets with his trademark dry delivery, the actor has proven his comedy bona fides. So, hey Lorne Michaels, give him his shot on “Saturday Night Live” already.
Asked if he’s ever been asked to host the iconic sketch show, Shannon replies, “I think Lorne Michaels is scared of me or thinks I smell funny or something. The guy won’t arrest me.”
I can personally vouch that Shannon smells fine and there’s nothing for Michaels to be afraid of. And the actor seems a perfect fit for the show; “SNL” often likes...

Michael Shannon recently reprised his role as General Zod in the new “Flash” film for DC Studios. This marks the first time the actor has had a starring role in a huge franchise film since the original time we saw Zod in 2013’s “Man of Steel.” And according to Shannon, that’s not by mistake, as the actor doesn’t really have any interest in acting in franchise films, not even a “Star Wars” feature.

Such was the refrain across Hollywood on Saturday morning as opening weekend estimates circulated for DC’s highly anticipated The Flash and Pixar’s Elemental, which are debuting domestically over the long Juneteenth holiday weekend. (It’s also Father’s Day on Sunday.)
Starring Ezra Miller in the titular role, Warner Bros. and DC’s The Flash looks to gross $58 million to $60 million for the three-day weekend and $70 million or less for the four days. The superhero tentpole had hoped for a three-day start of at least $70 million so as to come in ahead of such DC titles as Black Adam, which collected $67 million in its first three days.
The Flash earned $24.5 million on Friday, including $9.7 million in previews.

Ever since the release of ‘The Flash’ trailer, the DC Extended Universe’s movie has been criticised for its computer-generated imagery (CGI), with audiences taking to social media to air their dissatisfaction.
In response, the film’s director Andy Muschietti has defended the CGI of the film, claiming it was intended to be that way.

DC’s highly anticipated superhero pic The Flash is finally here.
The movie, starring Ezra Miller in the titular role, started off its North American box office run with $9.7 million in previews. As a comparison, Sony’s Venom started off with $10 million in previews on its way to a domestic opening of $80.3 million.
The Flash has been tracking to open in the $70 million range over Father’s Day weekend, but Warner Bros. is counting on an upside. The studio’s leadership has been hyping the movie for months. “It’s the best superhero movie I’ve ever seen,” Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav told theater owners at CinemaCon in late April before they were shown the film in full. Many critics don’t agree with the assessment; the pic currently has a 67 percent Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Michael Shannon didn’t hold back as he voiced his opinion on what it was like reprising his role as General Zod in “The Flash”.
The actor — whose character’s neck was snapped by Superman in 2013’s “Man of Steel” — told Collider of whether returning to the role felt different, since he’s from a different timeline: “I’m not going to lie — it wasn’t quite satisfying for me, as an actor. These multiverse movies are like somebody playing with action figures.
“It’s like, ‘Here’s this person. Here’s that person. And they’re fighting!’ It’s not quite the in-depth character study situation that I honestly felt ‘Man of Steel’ was.
“Whether people think that’s crazy or not, I don’t even care. I really felt like ‘Man of Steel’ was actually a pretty sophisticated story. I feel like ‘The Flash’ is too, but it’s not Zod’s story.

Never one to mince words in interviews, Michael Shannon said in a recent chat with Collider that returning to play General Zod in “The Flash” “wasn’t quite satisfying for me, as an actor.”
Shannon, a top Emmy Awards contender this year for his performance in “George & Tammy,” first played General Zod in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” in 2013. That film ended, somewhat controversially, with General Zod dead at the hands of Superman. But “The Flash” allowed for the character’s resurrection due to its multiverse storyline.

While much of the casting hype around this month’s DC multiverse entry The Flash surrounds Michael Keaton as Batman, one can’t forget the return of Michael Shannon as General Zod, a role he first played in 2013’s Man of Steel. For many fans it will be a welcome return for many fans. For Michael Shannon? Not so much, as the actor has come off quite displeased that he’s not given much to do and that modern superhero movies come off like eruptions from the toy chest.
In a new interview with Collider, Michael Shannon said returning as General Zod for the first time in a decade was an underwhelming experience, “I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t quite satisfying for me, as an actor. These multiverse movies are like somebody playing with action figures. It’s like, ‘Here’s this person. Here’s that person. And they’re fighting!

Any of us suffering from superhero fatigue may be in store for a meta-human shot in the arm when DC Studios' multiverse mashup "The Flash" bolts into theaters to help kick off the summer blockbuster season. Early buzz suggests that it will be worth the wait, with particular accolades going to star Ezra Miller for their dual performance as the fastest kid alive, the role they originated in "Justice League" (following the briefest of appearances in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" and 2016's "Suicide Squad").
The new film featuring the return of Michael Keaton as Batman and Michael Shannon as General Zod has the potential to be the best iteration of the Scarlet Speedster since the animated epic "Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox" (it's even based on the same comic). If it really is as good as the early hype indicates, that may explain why scrapping a theatrical release...

‘The Flash’ director Andy Muschietti would welcome Ezra Miller back in the titular role if there is ever a sequel.
Insisting that no one can play the DC superhero better than Miller, the filmmaker would have the 30-year-old star back in a flash despite the fact they were arrested multiple times last year, reports aceshowbiz.com.
“If (a sequel) happens, yes. I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys – it feels like a character that was made for them,” Muschietti said when appearing on “The Discourse”.
Producer Barbara Muschietti added: “In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional (actor). Ezra gave everything for this role – physically, creatively,...

Dceu fans already know from the trailers that Andy Muschietti‘s “The Flash” has a bunch of cameos from previous DC movies. For instance, Michael Shannon shows up as General Zod, Ben Affleck reprises his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman; and, in one of the upcoming film’s multiversal twists, so does Michael Keaton from Tim Burton‘s “Batman” films.

Before James Gunn and Peter Safran unleash their new slate of films for the DC Universe, Ezra Miller's superhero is racing our way one last time. And Warner Bros. has just released the final trailer ahead of this summer's anticipated blockbustin' release. "The Flash" is the first stand-alone feature for the scarlet speedster, and by incorporating the 2011 crossover comic "Flashpoint," is all but guaranteed to send the current era of DC films out with a bang.
After using his superpowers to go back in time in an attempt to change history to save his family, Barry Allen/The Flash (Miller) inadvertently royally screws up the future and ends up trapped in an alternate reality where General Zod (Michael Shannon) is back and threatening to take over the world. In a desperate attempt to set things right, The Flash teams up with two different Batman (Batmen?) heroes (Michael Keaton and...

Andy Muschietti's "The Flash" is due out in theaters next month and promises to be a crossover event along the lines of "Spider-Man: No Way Home." It seems that the Flash (Ezra Miller) can run so unbelievably fast that he can rip through the very fabric of reality and enter parallel universes. The film's trailers show the Flash fighting alongside a parallel version of himself, as well as scenes where he can witness his own childhood. In a fit of fan service, not only will the Flash interact with Batman (Ben Affleck) as he appeared in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League," but also with Batman (Michael Keaton) as he appeared in 1989's "Batman" and its sequel, "Batman Returns."

Amid ongoing controversy surrounding “The Flash” star Ezra Miller, costar Michael Shannon supports the embattled actor.
During a recent Vanity Fair interview, Shannon, who will return to “The Flash” franchise as General Zod in the upcoming superhero film, voiced compassion for his fellow actor when asked about the “noise” surrounding the new project.
“If you’re talking about Ezra [Miller], I thought Ezra was lovely — very kind to me when I was there,” Shannon began.
“It’s difficult to talk about, but I always give people a lot of slack in this business, because there’s a lot of people in this business that have issues. And some people have more privacy than others.”
Shannon, 48, further expressed that he feels for “any time somebody is out in the spotlight getting picked on.”

Warner Bros. held the first-ever public screening of “The Flash” on Monday night in Las Vegas during CinemaCon 2023, and 24 hours later the social media embargo has expired. And you know what that means: The first reactions are in.
And, surprise: They’re… mostly rapturous. People who saw it loved it. Well, mostly. There were some criticisms too, harsh ones even. But even the nay-sayers had at least some nice things to say about it.
Now, the reactions of journalists at a highly curated industry event like CinemaCon don’t necessarily guarantee critical acclaim and box office gold to follow. But it has to feel like a good sign for Warner Bros. Discovery, which has had what can politely be described as a very tough year thanks to this movie.

Don’t expect the hype for “The Flash” to slow down.
Following months of breathless advanced praise for the film from folks like DC Films boss James Gunn, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, and potentially even Tom Cruise, journalists and junketeers got to see the first public screening of the superhero film and added their huzzahs to the din of excitement.
On Tuesday night at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Warner Bros. debuted “The Flash” for theater owners and select media. According to Variety, “the finished product elicited plenty of cheers, laughs and maybe a few tears in the room at Caesars Palace.”
Indeed, the first wave of reaction tweets expressed wide-eyed awe and astonishment. Here’s one example from Fandango’s Erik Davis: “Forget DC, it is without a doubt among the best superhero films ever made. An all-timer. Inventive storytelling, Fantastic action sequences, great cast. So Many nerdy details.

It’s been an incredibly long journey for the Fastest Man Alive on the big screen. But various false starts later, Warner Bros.’ The Flash is finally about to take a bow in theaters. Directed by Andy Muschietti (It) from a script by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey), the film in part adapts the classic DC comic Flashpoint, in which Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) goes back in time to save his mother from death and completely changes the present, creating a dystopian alternate DC timeline. While it doesn’t look like the movie will get too bogged down in the many subplots of Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert’s miniseries, The Flash will incorporate quite a bit of DC movie history into its runtime.

For those who've been following along on the numerous twists and turns of Warner Bros.' "The Flash" movie, there's a pretty high chance you've suffered more whiplash over the years than the Scarlet Speedster himself. After so many director changes, delays, a number of controversies stemming from star Ezra Miller's troubling behavior, and no shortage of behind-the-scenes shake ups for the studio itself, many fans could be forgiven for assuming that the "solo" film simply wasn't meant to be. But believe it or not, it's finally becoming a reality — or as close to reality as it has ever been before.
That's because, against all odds, this timeline-hopping event movie has actually screened on the big screen, exclusively for those lucky enough to be in attendance at this year's CinemaCon festivities in Las Vegas. In an interesting wrinkle, however, Warner Bros. has made it clear that this particular cut is "not the final film,...

Thanks to the marketing of “The Flash,” we know the film is actually set to bring back Michael Shannon as General Zod after the character was controversially killed at the end of “Man of Steel.” While it would seem obvious for an actor to want to return to a massive franchise to reprise a role, in Shannon’s case, he wasn’t so sure it was the right move.

If you don’t want any spoilers about The Flash, stop reading now.
Alas, the usually media-savvy Ben Affleck has dropped a clanger by revealing details about a certain key DC character cameo in Andy Muschietti’s upcoming The Flash.
Affleck, who is currently on a press tour to promote his film Air: Courting a Legend, appeared on the latest episode of Sean Hayes, Will Arnett and Jason Bateman’s SmartLess podcast. Affleck, while sharing his thoughts on playing Batman again, ventured into spoiler territory, telling the hosts about the nature of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman cameo, which The Hollywood Reporter previously reported would take place along with appearances from other members of Zack Snyder’s Justice League ensemble.
Despite seemingly recognizing mid-sentence that he may have revealed something he shouldn’t have, Affleck proceeded to give details of the scene that he and Gadot filmed.

This post contains minor spoilers for The Flash movie.
Everyone talks about Batman, Spider-Man, and the X-Men when talking about the great rogues galleries in superhero comics. But the Flash belongs up there with the rest of them. Even before writer Geoff Johns made the Rogues into a sympathetic team of lovable losers during his early 2000s run, Captain Cold, the Pied Piper, and the Weather Wizard were among the most interesting baddies that cape comics had to offer.
So with Barry Allen set to make his big-screen solo (not really solo) movie debut in this year’s The Flash, fans were a little surprised to hear rumors that Dark Flash would be the primary villain, alongside Man of Steel bad guy General Zod. But thanks to a merchandising leak (via The Direct), we now have confirmation that Barry will indeed be fighting a much more intense version of himself in the Dark Flash.
