It was already an exciting evening at Moma on Tuesday night when Jim Carrey, Spike Jonze, and Chris Smith sat down for a Q&A following a screening of “Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond.” Then Michael Stipe showed up, and the crowd went wild all over again.
The movie, directed by Smith and produced by Jonze, tracks Carrey’s extreme, method-like immersion into the role of Andy Kaufman on the set of Milos Forman’s “Man on the Moon.” The footage, which sat in Carrey’s personal archives for over a decade, finds Carrey baffling everyone on set (and beyond it). The project came together after Carrey sent the footage to Jonze, who brought Smith onboard.

Only a year after the Sony Pictures proposed Men in Black/21 Jump Street hybrid, Mib 23, announcement it looks like it could very well be hitting the cutting room floor before it has even got started according to veteran Men in Black director Barry Sonnenfeld.
Everything was set in motion from James Bobin (Alice Through the Looking Glass, Flight of the Concords) set to direct, Rodney Rothman penning the script and even a title, Mib 23 all ready to go. However, a few months later Jonah Hill put the brakes on the film due to scheduling issues. Now Sonnenfeld has come along and virtually hammered the nails into the Mib 23 coffin with a statement damning the projects existence.

Criminal (in Hindi)
Starring Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones, Gal Gadot
Directed by Ariel Vromen
Having read the vicious reviews, Criminal, which I braved in Hindi, turned out to be as misunderstood and misinterpreted as The Jungle Book would be if it was taken literally to be a jungle fable (did someone just say, it is?).
There is a lot more to Criminal than the outrageously absurd premise of a ruthless criminal Jericho (Costner, knock-out in his malevolent makeover) whose brain is implanted with a slain CIA agent’s memory to get vital earth-saving information on a terrorist before catastrophe strikes civilization.
Catastrophe struck this film in angry welters with critics dubbing Criminal as one of the worst films in recent times. In brief, a ‘criminal’ waste of time and energy, the critics chorused.
In actuality Criminal has a lot going for itself. The action sequences on the...

Leonardo DiCaprio is a favorite to win the Oscar for Best Actor at Sunday night's award ceremony for his turn in The Revenant, and while many people are referring to it at "Leo's year," it's hardly the first time he's been up for the highly coveted award. In fact, this marks DiCaprio's fifth nomination. So where did it all start? DiCaprio, 41, first burst into the awards-circuit scene in 1994 when he was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal as Arnie Grape in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. At just the age of 19, DiCaprio was the second youngest nominee of the year,...

This morning, I posted my review of FX's "The Bastard Executioner." Now it's your turn. For those who watched the full two-hour pilot of Kurt Sutter's latest, what did you think? Did it remind you of the best or worst of "Sons of Anarchy"? Were you interested in Wilkin's struggle to avoid violence, and/or did you find Lee Jones compelling? How did you feel about Katey Sagal's accent? Too graphic, or not graphic enough? And will you watch again? Have at it. Maybe I'll check back in on this later in the season, but I'm not in a rush to watch more at the moment. ...

The executioner is coming. Kurt Sutter's medieval drama debuted a first look at Comic-Con Sunday, with the trailer airing later during The Strain season two premiere on FX. Bastard Executioner tells the story of a warrior knight in King Edward I’s charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword. When that violence finds him again, however, he's forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all. The series stars newcomer Lee Jones along with Sutter's wife and Sons of Anarchy star Katey Sagal, True Blood's Stephen Moyer, Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Sam

Stephen Moyer is going back in time to the 14th century with Kurt Sutter. The actor, who portrayed Bill Compton on HBO’s True Blood for all seven of the show’s seasons, has signed on to star in the Sons of Anarchy creator’s new drama pilot The Bastard Executioner. Starring opposite Moyer, as the female lead of the series, will be Sutter’s wife and Sons of Anarchy alum Katey Sagal. Meanwhile Sagal, will tackle the role of Annora of the Alders. Prescient, mystical and beautiful, she offers predictions, cures and potions. In addition to Moyer and Sagal, Sutter has also made the surprising decision to play a major role in the potential series. Australian newcomer Lee Jones...

Sons Of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is set to bring a whole new world of pain and torture to FX with his forthcoming show, The Bastard Executioner. So far only ordered to pilot, the medieval period drama is nevertheless steamrolling ahead with news of its extensive cast of characters.
A shift away from the sunny-but-bloody Californian locale of Sons, The Bastard Executioner will revolve around “a warrior knight in King Edward III’s charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword. But when that violence finds him again he is forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all.”
According to THR, Australian theater thesp Lee Jones has snagged the titular role of a man named Wilkin Brattle. Alongside him in the pool of new arrivals are True Blood star Stephen Moyer, who is set to star as Brattle’s go-to man Milus Corbett,...

Kurt Sutter's new series Bastard Executioner already sounded like Sons of Anarchy in 14th-century Britain, and now it's got the cast to match, as Sutter has cast both himself and his wife as regulars in the series. Katey Sagal will play a mysterious fortune-teller, while Sutter will play a masked character who sounds like a sort of medieval Gimp. They'll be joined by Stephen Moyer, who will be playing an English chancellor; and Matthew Rhys, as the leader of the Welsh rebels. (He'll be recurring, so this won't conflict with The Americans.) None of these people are the titular executioner; that part will be filled by Australian newcomer Lee Jones, a man who, thanks to this guy, is essentially un-Google-able. ...

Stephen Moyer apparently has a thing for period garb.
The actor, who spent a good portion of his time on True Blood stuck in the 1800s, has signed on to star opposite Katey Sagal in Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter’s 14th century-set drama pilot The Bastard Executioner, TVLine has learned.
In a surprising move, Sutter himself is set to play a major role in the potential series. Additionally, Aussie newcomer Lee Jones has snagged the title role, and The Americans‘ Matthew Rhys will guest-star in the project.

★★★★☆Tommy Lee Jones' second directorial effort following the underrated The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (which played at Cannes in 2005), The Homesman (2014) is something of a reverse western, with homesteader Mary Bee Cuddy (a sterling turn from Hilary Swank) and amoral old-timer George Briggs (Jones) heading from west to east with a cargo of three mentally-ill women, played by Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto and Sonja Richter. The characters have been variously defeated by the brutal reality of frontier life, with loneliness, diphtheria, child mortality and marital abuse having driven these women to the point of desperation and beyond into the realms of madness.

Get to know the sensational singers that the coaches fought over in the Season 7 premiere of 'The Voice'…

To kick off the new season and celebrate the first night of blind auditions, the musically-inclined foursome took the stage to gift fans with a cover of Gwen and Pharrell’s 2001 hit, “Hella Good.” All in all it was a pretty good performance, but we wanted to rip our hair out when Gwen kept making the audience sing the obnoxious “Ooo! If you were to go back to the early 1980s, and describe to somebody exactly the sort of role you’d like to see Robert De Niro playing 30 years down the line and later on in life, you’d probably opt for a graceful, retired mob boss of the Marlon Brando ilk. Though on paper that’s exactly the role we’re seeing him undertake in Luc Besson’s The Family, sadly it’s not quite the calibre of movie we may have envisaged, in what is a distinctly underwhelming comedy thriller, particularly when considering the talent involved.
De Niro plays Giovanni Manzoni – the head of a notorious mafia clan, but more importantly, the head of a exacting household consisting of his wife Maggie (Michelle Pfeiffer) and kids Belle (Dianna Agron) and Warren (John D’Leo), who have had to move home once again as part of a witness protection programme,...

It’s always fascinating to find a certain facet to World War 2 and delve into it, as although the War has been covered so extensively in film, Peter Webber’s Emperor proves there are always areas left untouched and inspiring stories not yet told. The forthcoming Colin Firth title The Railway Man proves a similar point, as two films that look into the conflicting politics concerning the Japanese army during such a time.
Taking place in the final stages of the Second World War, there’s an intense and ambivalent atmosphere as the Japanese surrender, as the future of Emperor Hirohito (Takatarô Kataoka) lies in the balance, as he potentially faces the death penalty for war crimes. Supreme Commander of the occupying forces, General Douglas MacArthur (Tommy Lee Jones), leaves the decision of whether the Emperor will be trialled with General Bonner Fellers (Matthew Fox), a Japanese expert, who sets off to undertake his research,...

Hard work in France, indeed! And all that because principal photography finally begins on Luc Besson’s latest project titled Malavita!

And just in case you’ve missed the first set photo, we’re here to give you the first look at Robert De Niro and Tommy Lee Jones who both star in this movie!
Adapted by Besson from Tonino Benacquista’s book Badfellas, Malavita is a dark comedy which follows Manzonis, a notorious mafia family who gets relocated to Normandy, France under the witness protection program.
While they do their best to fit in, old habits die hard and they soon find themselves handling things the “family” way.

Here’s the first clip from the upcoming Emperor movie, which comes from director Peter Webber and stars always great Tommy Lee Jones, Matthew Fox and Eriko Hatsune.
The movie, or if you prefer – the historical drama will premiere this night at the Toronto International Film Festival, and we have no doubts that it will be a successful night for Webber and his team.
This short clip unfortunately shows no action, it’s more like a little description of a situation that comes straight from Lee Jones, who portrays General Douglas MacArthur, man who suddenly finds himself the de facto ruler of a foreign nation. And just in case you already forgot the synopsis part, let us remind you that this is the moment when Fox jumps in.

An interesting juxtaposition occurred on the Wednesday-night editions of rival singing competitions The Voice and The X Factor, as both shows handed rejection slips to former boy-band members seeking to capture some of their faded glory.

Men in Black return for a third outing or is it the 13th?
For reasons probably best explained with legal files and financial spreadsheets, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back in black, doing what they always did: battling illegal aliens, saving the planet in an enormous special-effects splurge, then erasing everyone's memory, us included. Does anyone really recall Men in Black II, after all? Perhaps this is actually part 12 – how would we know? Still, the flatlining franchise is revived with some pretty strong jolts here. First, the agents-vs-aliens shtick is transposed to a different era; secondly, for much of the running time, it replaces tired-looking Lee Jones with Josh Brolin, playing his younger self. Brolin does a better rendition of Jones' drawled, Texan deadpan than Jones himself, and he brings the movie to life after a sluggish set-up.

Nowhere is the "April Foolish" descriptive more appropriate than in the Supporting Categories. They're generally the last major categories to clear up in each Oscar race since so much rides on the success of a film and/or its leading players. Coattails are often required even if the performance is great all by its lonesome. Witness the sad fate of Vanessa Redgrave's Coriolanus performance in the last race. She was easily the greatest but barely any awards group noticed since reviews for the film were lukewarm and it was barely released at that.
Vanessa Redgrave and Terence Stamp are old married in "Song for Marion"
Redgrave might be in play again this year, though, with a warmer title role in Song For Marion. The last time she was in the Oscar race (20 years ago) she was playing a dying woman who worked as a catalyst for the protagonist's emotional...

In a game that promised to be tighter than the final scoreline, Ireland eventually romped home to a four try victory against Scotland, with the game finishing 32-14 at the Aviva.
In what was a terrific first half that saw the two packs battle ferociously and saw momentum swing to and fro, Ireland went in 22-14 ahead courtesy of tries from captain Rory Best, Eoin Reddan and an Andrew Trimble effort. The pick of the tries, however, undoubtedly came from Scotland’s Richie Gray. The Lions second row elect showed terrific power to break the line initially and then showed deft of hand and quickness of feet to sell full-back Rob Kearney a dummy to maraud over the try line. The Scottish pack competed gamely in the first half, but Gray was a solitary shining light for Scotland for the full 80 minutes.

Both teams have showed promise. Both teams have disappointed. Ireland have lost the ability to close out tight games, while Scotland have shown glimpses of immense improvement, but still suffer from a lack of discipline and defensive coordination. Saturday evening’s match at the Aviva has again become a crucial tie for both teams.
Ireland went to Paris last weekend for their rearranged fixture and drew a game they could have won, but also so easily have lost in the closing stages. Tommy Bowe’s brilliance helped set Declan Kidney’s side up for their first win in France since that O’Driscoll hat-trick. However, a resurgent French pack and costly indiscipline led to Ireland showing great resolve simply to avoid losing the game. After the last-gasp defeat against Wales in round 1, another such defeat would have been devastation. Kidney’s cause has not been helped by injuries to Connor Murray,...

Reality singing competitions live or die by the strength of their contestants, but it doesn’t hurt to have other secret weapons — especially when you’ve got a two-hour telecast to fill. This week’s installment of The Voice certainly proved the value of a loaded arsenal — employing a fluffy white cat, some creative editing, subtle/possibly nonexistent nods to American Idol‘s Haley Reinhart, several hilariously unrehearsed outbursts, a wrestling match pitting Christina Aguilera’s breasts against the exhausted black Lycra of her scoop-neck top (spoiler alert: the blouse is so going to lose), and even a crushing blow to gossip monster Perez Hilton.

Despite not coming with a cool rap video, the new teaser trailer for Men in Black III does everything right. It opens with the familiar faces of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith doing what they did in the previous movies, then quickly shifts to the high concept problem (and solution) of a missing K (and a trip through time that randomly involves a Hollywood-style stunt to work. Then again, jumping off buildings is all the rage these days. As a bonus, both Smith and new co-star Josh Brolin get to deliver a bright ray of sunshine known as the Tommy Lee Jones Signature Smile. Check it out for yourself: Hopefully the credits come with a cool Brolin, Smith, Lee Jones collaboration that launches a rad new dance craze. Will you be searching every farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and movie house for this one?...

In theaters May 25 from Columbia Pictures is Barry Sonnenfeld's Men In Black 3, their extremely troubled production that stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Jemaine Clement, Josh Brolin and Emma Thompson. Jones has a smaller role this time around though, as the film finds Will Smith traveling back in time to 1969 in order to save a young Agent K (Josh Brolin) and avert a world-ending disaster. Teaser posters have begun surfacing at cineplex's around the country, and both are quite eye-catching. Check out a look at a stylized Smith and Lee Jones inside. Hi-res will be added as soon as they're available.

Jon Favreau's big-budget blockbuster "Cowboys & Aliens" hits theaters this weekend, bringing Platinum Studios' 2006 graphic novel to life on the big screen. But don't worry if you didn't know about the film's comic-book roots, because you're probably not alone.
Like quite a few films before it, the concept for "Cowboys & Aliens" originates in a comic book that isn't nearly as well-known as mainstream titles like The Amazing Spider-Man and Batman. However, just because a comic book movie's source material isn't well known, that doesn't mean the film was any less impressive -- in fact, the lesser-known comics sometimes make the best movies.

If there were one familiar director working in the Hollywood system that Marvel Studios could trust to bring an origin story of Captain America to the screen it would be Joe Johnston. Twenty years ago Johnston showed his appreciation for golden age superhero adventure when he directed The Rocketeer, proving that a brave superhero always cut a good figure when he wore a leather bomber jacket.
So Johnston was the man of choice when Marvel and Paramount stepped up $170 million dollars to make Captain America: The First Avenger. They hired an actor that seemed to possess the good looking, square-jawed frame of Steve Rogers, the man who's turned into America's super soldier. They got the right people to visualize the look of World War II, populating it with war bonds artwork and slighty futuristic but retro technology. But in the end Johnston's one flaw as a filmmaker still holds true...

Oprah Winfrey doesn't do anything without putting her special touch on it. She named her new network Own for Christ's sake.
So, when it came to partying down after shooting her final episode with her long list of celeb guests, Oprah had several new drinks created for the party by mixologist Adam Seger of Hum Botanical spirits.
Seger shared Lady O's cocktail menu, pictured, with the Chicagoist which included fun cocktail names, including our favorite, "Crazy A** Sangria." Keep it real, O!
The drinks required about 18,000 fruit "caviar pearls," edible flowers and rose petals, pluots (which are plum-apricot hybrids), dragon fruit, and other ingredients we don't have in our pantry. Only the most obscure for Oprah!
When Zap2it caught up with her in January, we asked her for the deets on her signature drink, the Moscow Mule. So, it doesn't surprise us that she had that cocktail dressed up...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones and James Spader are in talks to star in Steven Spielberg’s biopic of Abraham Lincoln. After an unofficial report hit the 'net a few weeks ago that production on "Men In Black 3" was delayed due to script problems, we weren't alone in wondering whether the third installment of the popular sci-fi franchise was in troubled waters.
When MTV News caught up with "Men In Black 3" actor Josh Brolin during this weekend's Academy Awards, we asked him whether the time-traveling adventure that has him playing a younger version of Tommie Lee Jones' character was indeed in danger.
"No, no... It's good," Brolin told MTV News. "We're finally starting up again."
As for those rumors of script problems plaguing the 1969-era portion of the film, Brolin said everything is good to go now and everyone is... happy.
"The script is fantastic," he said. "We're very, very happy. I wish I could read you this email that Barry sent me. He's very happy, which makes me happy.
