Parveen Babi Starred In Super Hit movies like Namak Halal, Kaalia, Shaan, Deewar, and More. (Photo Credit – IMDb/Instagram)
The late 70s and 80s superstar Parveen Babi is a star whose loss is a remnant in Hindi Cinema. Her charm and ability to translate emotions through subtlety and grace made the movies she starred in more affluent. Multiple heartbreaks, a bout with schizophrenia, and an untimely death at the age of 50 marked the end of the starlet’s life. But did you know she once ran behind Mahesh Bhatt without stopping him after they broke up? She also ended up in a mental hospital in New York.
Parveen Babi‘s life stories are no less than a saga; it had everything: love, heartbreak, sadness, and tragedy. Amar Akbar Anthony, Namak Halal, Shaan, and The Burning Train are just a few of the classic Hindi films she starred in. And while...

Highest Grossing Bollywood Films In Pakistan (Picture Credit: Facebook & IMDb)
It was a series of surprises at the box office when India’s favorite subject, the India Vs Pakistan war, started witnessing a decline. Two superstar releases – Fighter and Tiger 3 were based on the rivalry of the two nations and their armies, and while in a previous decade, this would have been enough to rake moolahs at the box office, both the films seemingly point at the audience’s disinterest in the subject.
However, the topic worked in Gadar 2‘s favor, but it was a common man fighting in Pakistan rather than the armies, and probably that worked. This might be just an observation. However, these films were strongly rejected by not only Pakistan but also many Gulf countries.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which turned 7 on October 28, is one good-looking film with actors who epitomize human beauty. True, they strive helplessly towards reaching the inner core of their being to obtain a spiritual centre to match that abundance of physical beauty. That synchronized connectivity between inner and outer beauty escapes the filmmaker as well as his characters who are heard mouthing some beautiful poetry that seems ordered online.
The film is enormously gratifying for the high level of visual aesthetics that Karan invests into his frames. Full marks to cinematographer Anil Mehta for shooting Karan’s location and actors with an intensity that frequently betrays their shallow interests in life. Karan Johar loves his films to look beautiful. He works towards gleaming polishing and grooming his locations and actors as though he were building a Taj Mahal for the gen-y to rest its reposeful romanticism.

Speaking on the FWhy Podcast, the 38-year-old actress said the backlash and demeaning comments she received “brought out the anxiety and depression hidden inside me.”

That was a time my faith broke, and I developed severe anxiety to the point that one day, I had a panic attack and fainted. That was the first time I went to therapy. But that didn’t work out, as I went to several therapists… that year was rough… I couldn’t sleep; my hands used to shake.”

New Delhi, July 23 (Ians) Type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes, is more challenging to manage and can also take a toll on a patient’s emotional and social well-being, said doctors stressing the need for more awareness on the insulin-dependent condition.
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic condition, where the pancreas makes little or no insulin — a hormone the body uses to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy.
In the absence of insulin, blood sugar levels can rise dangerously, which can damage people’s blood vessels, and in turn lead to blindness, kidney failure, heart attack or nerve damage — also leading to limb amputation.
“People with type 1 diabetes face various challenges in managing their condition on a daily basis. Some of the key challenges include insulin dependency, blood sugar management, carbohydrate counting and meal planning, hypoglycemia (very low blood sugar levels) and hyperglycemia (very high blood sugar levels),” Richa Chaturvedi,...

On Saturday, June 3, Husain, 66, passed on, leaving behind a legacy of memorable stage productions.
He is survived by his wife and creative partner, Viraat Talwar, whom he met when she was a student of Lady Shri Ram College and had come to audition for a play (‘Dangerous Liaison’), and their two sons.
If ‘The Fifty Day War’ narrated the Kargil story on a scale that had not been attempted by anyone with an original Indian script on an Indian stage, ‘The Legend of Ram’, which was staged on a smaller scale in 1994, became the gold standard for theatrical spectacles when it was relaunched in 2004.

Brings a barrage of memories, doesn’t it?
It was the era of good music playing across the Indian mainstream as opposed to the current times when barring a few exceptions, all you hear are singers setting their voices to melodyne or auto-tune, and composers heavily synthesising their melodies to make it “audience friendly”.
However, true art and artistic integrity always make their way around as they transcend the boundaries of space and time, and Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan, professionally known as Xulfi, is a true testament of this fact.
Xulfi is the lead singer of the Pakistani band ‘Call’ and is the one who sang ‘Laree Chootee’ and even featured in its music video which cross-cuts between two worlds of ‘Call’ performing for the screen and Abhay and Neha Dhupia dancing to the tune.

Series Mania has always been about discovery: Of drama series as an art form, in its early days from launch in 2009; then of key players on a burgeoning international premium TV scene.
Series Mania’s International Panorama now catches a new wave of creatives transitioning from film to scripted TV – Israel’s Yaron Shani with “Innermost,” Spain’s Isaki Lacuesta and Isa Campo with episodes of “Apagón”; and highlights notable emerging auteurs: Denmark’s Kasper Møller Rask, Canada’s Alexis Durand-Brault, Spain’s Fran Araujo, Pakistan’s Assim Abassi and Germany’s Jakob and Jonas Weydemann.
But for having already bowed at national festivals, some of the 12 titles below could well have been in the running for a Competition berth.

It isn’t hard to believe that Bilal Lashari’s The Legend of Maula Jatt is, by some multiples, the most expensive film ever to come out of Pakistan. In the works since 2013, held up first by a copyright battle and then by Covid, it was finally released this month, thrilling audiences with its vast sets, elaborately choreographed set pieces and galaxy of stars: it is nothing if not lavish. It is also being vigorously touted as the catalyst that will revive the long-languishing fortunes of Lollywood, the Pakistani popular film industry. Time will tell. Audiences are certainly loving it.
Like Hollywood’s comic-book superheroes, the character Maula Jatt has repeatedly proved to be gilt-edged box office. The Punjabi avenger was immortalized in a 1979 epic, simply titled Maula Jat, that was also the most expensive film of its time and a huge hit; even before that, the character popped up in other films.

Entertaining new version of Pakistan cult movie follows a young noble boy spirited away to a poor village when a rival clan slaughters his parents
Imagine Game of Thrones crossed with Gladiator and you’ll have something like this entertainingly old fashioned action movie with epic levels of throat slashing, spectacular scenery and a fair bit of camp. Rumoured to be Pakistan’s highest-budget film, this remake of a cult classic from 1979 is the story of a young noble boy, Maula Jatt, who is spirited away to a poor village when a rival clan slaughters his parents.
After a flashback to that massacre we meet Maula (Fawad Khan) as a young man. The size of a well-fed bear, he earns a living fighting in gladiatorial games, pummelling poor souls from neighbouring villages. But the discovery of his past sets him off on a path of revenge against the Natt family responsible for killing his parents.

Since its June 8 premiere, Disney’s “Ms. Marvel” has audiences and critics (including this one) buzzing about its stunning South Asian representation. Not only does the show center a Pakistani-American Muslim teen, but Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) is completely at peace with her hyphenated identity. She loves Bollywood movies and food from the local halal cart, she brings her friends to Eid parties and listens to fusion artists like Swet Shop Boys. Her cultural confidence is mirrored in the show’s production: From music to artwork to language, “Ms. Marvel” is a work of love.
“That comes from many of the people involved in the creative process being from either a Pakistani background or Muslim background — they could directly relate to or were open to learning,” head writer and showrunner Bisha K. Ali told IndieWire. “So all of that felt very natural as we were writing it, as I was putting it all together.

As Disney+ releases the six episodes of "Ms. Marvel" this summer, Popsugar has exclusive interviews with the cast and creators about making the show come to life. This week, additional photography production designer Natasha Gerasimova chats with Popsugar about episode five, "Time and Again."
Natasha Gerasimova joined the "Ms. Marvel" team pretty late into the process. The show had already been filmed and edited, and the creative team was planning reshoots. Gerasimova tells Popsugar that when she came on board, there was a meeting of the minds to evaluate what needed to change to improve the show.
Gerasimova says the scope of the changes the show's creative team wanted to implement was extensive, so they had to be strategic about what could be re-edited and what they actually needed to reshoot. Ms. Marvel Episode 5
Hoo boy. Well, we had a good run with Ms. Marvel. Four terrific episodes in a row. But unfortunately here we are at the penultimate one, and Marvel’s six-episode Disney+ structure has become massively problematic for the show’s core story. Not only that, but the MCU’s headache-inducing time travel rules get a pummelling while the writers seek to smooth them over with a “just go with it” attitude. I am currently struggling to go with it.
In episode five, “Time and Again”, we find out what really happened to Aisha before and during Partition. After the temple raid in which the Clandestine discovered the mysterious bangle in episode three, Aisha abandoned the idea re-joining them, as she apparently knew that it would not bring them all happily back to their dimension. Instead, she sought to rest...

“Ms. Marvel”, a six-episode series, is the newest entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also known as the MCU. Debuting on Disney+ on June 8th, the series is based on the very popular comic book of the same name. However, this series takes the story into a whole new and exciting frame. The jury’s still out on exactly who says that, but sometimes, even though you could be living in the United States, all you want is something that’s familiar, comforting, and reminds you of home. You know, the same way that chai can feel like a warm comforting hug, but a café latte only feels like a pat on the back? And one thing that can provide you comfort in such times is cinema. If you’re grown up watching Bollywood films and like them, they are a sure shot way to bring back some nostalgia. Whether you want drama, cheesy romance or...

Actress Richa Chadha, who is known to be vocal with her opinions, says she has observed how, at times, mainstream and social media tend to scrutinize female stars more than male stars. Although she was criticized by a section of the media in her initial days, she holds all her critics in high regard.
Richa told Ians: "Mainstream media, as well as social media, tends to be unfair towards female stars, and female stars get trolled and criticized more than their male counterparts. I can say this from my observation of the way media constantly questions Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Swara Bhasker, Sonam Kapoor and other female stars for their choices - whether it is fashion, political opinion or lifestyle. Do they question the male stars enough as well?"
