A group of strangers wake up somewhere with no idea of where they are, how they got there, or why they’re there. Sound familiar? That’s the starting point of Escape the Field, a new thriller from first-time feature director Emerson Moore and his co-writers Sean Wathen and Joshua Dobkin.
Sam wakes up, still in her scrubs, in a cornfield with a revolver and one bullet beside her. While she’s trying to figure out how she got there, or where “there” is, Tyler stumbles across her. They in turn run into other survivors, Ryan, Ethan, Rachel, and Denise. Eventually, they’re joined by Cameron.

Exclusive: Lionsgate has taken North American and UK rights to Emerson Moore’s feature film directorial debut Escape the Field.
The psychological thriller finds six strangers who suddenly awake in a remote, endless cornfield, stripped of their possessions and left with seemingly random items, ranging from an old revolver with a single bullet to an antique lantern. As klaxon sirens blare in the distance and traps appear at every turn, the group realizes they have been plunged into a cat-and-mouse game with an unseen evil, and survival depends upon solving a diabolical — and deadly — puzzle. The pic is scheduled for a multi-platform release this May.
Also written by Moore, Joshua Dobkin and Sean Wathen, the movie stars Shane West (Gotham), Theo Rossi (True Story), Jordan Claire Robbins (The Umbrella Academy), Tahira Sharif (The Haunting of Bly Manor), Julian Feder (The Doorman) and Elena Juatco (Jann).

Fernando Barreda Luna, director of the 2010 film Atrocious, has announced a collaboration with writer Sean Wathen for his first English language horror flick, The Dragger.
Luna announced that Wathen will write the film and the ball is already rolling. "We are developing our next horror project called The Dragger," Luna said. "The film began pre-production in January. This will be my first English language film, and it's being produced by my wife, Jessica Villegas. For now all I can say is that we're shooting in the U.S. and that it will scare the hell out of you!"
You've gotta like the sound of that! Especially when it's coming from a guy who directed a film entitled Atrocious! Gotta figure he knows his horror! More info on this as it becomes available.

Sean Wathen and Joshua Dobkin have sold their latest script Case 2317 to Lucky Day Studios. Described as Paranormal Activity meets Ghost Hunters , the story follows a team of paranormal investigators who enter the most haunted prison in the world, Eastern State Penitentiary. Obviously, something unusual goes down or there wouldn't be a need to tell the story; sadly, no more details where provided other than the story is told from multiple Pov cameras. Wathen and Dobkin previously sold The Field to Stone Village (the company behind Turistas ) in early 2009. Read more about that here . Case 2317 , which will hopefully be re-titled to avoid any connection to Case 39 or sounding like a Session 9 rip-off, is expected to begin shooting this summer.

While there's not many details, newcomers Sean Wathen and Josh Dobkin have sold their thriller spec to Stone Village with Benderspink set to produce. Now the reason we're reporting on this is the fantastic sounding storyline:
A group of strangers who wake up in an endless field equipped with random items and they must find a way out.
It kind of reminds me of that prison scene in Thx-1138 of endless white and maybe a bit of Cube as well. That's all the info there is. via Styd.

The production company Stone Village Pictures, which was recently behind Love in the Time of Cholera and Turistas, has acquired a concept thriller called The Field, authored by TV support staff Josh Dobkin ("Scrubs") and Sean Wathen ("House"). The thriller is set in an endless field, where a group of strangers wake up with seemingly random items and must find a way out. Adding a taste of horror is the production company Benderspink (The Ring series, The Ruins), which will also executive produce. Not much else is known of the project at this time, nor is there insight into Dobkin and Wathen's foray into film. Those involved right now lead me to believe The Field has a B-class ceiling at best. And if I might speculate, the puzzle story may have a medical/hallucination angle to it. It's just a guess, but both scribes do work on hospital-centric shows --...

Talk about writing to fit a small budget; Variety reports that newbie scribes Sean Wathen and Josh Dobkin just sold their first script to Stone Village. The film is called The Field and is set in an endless field where a group of strangers wake up with seemingly random items scattered about. They’re then tasked with finding a way out of the field.
Benderspink is executive producing the script with Stone Village producing and financing. Location’s going to be pretty easy; just find a big goddamn field and hope it doesn’t rain. Often.
Dobkin’s day job is art department coordinator for “Scrubs” while Wathen is production secretary for “House”, so the two are already fully ensconced in the ways of Hollywood. Now we just have to hope that the execution of their script is a bit more exciting than its outline!

First-time writers Sean Wathen and Josh Dobkin have sold production company Stone Village their script The Field, a high-concept Cube-like thriller. We say ‘Cube-like’, but in reality, we’re tempted to use the dread word ‘reimagining’, for the premise, in which a group of strangers wake up in a hellish prison and must work together to escape, sounds a hell of a lot like Vincenzo Natali’s 1997 cult classic. Except, where Cube took place in, well, a cube, The Field will take place in… oh, take a wild guess.Of course, the field in which the movie’s characters find themselves isn’t just any field. This is an apparently endless field from which there’s no escape – luckily, the group has been given a number of seemingly random objects which may, just may, aid their escape. So, it’s Cube meets Saw meets Paycheck (but not, as far as we can tell,...
