Having won a BAFTA (and landed an Oscar nomination) for her role as Colin Farrell’s kind-hearted but cynical — and distinctly less donkey-friendly — sister in Martin McDonagh’s darkly comic “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Kerry Condon is back in her native Ireland for her next film role.
Set in the height of the Troubles in the mid-1970s, Robert Lorenz’s Irish Western “In the Land of Saints and Sinners,” which launches on Netflix Friday, sees the actress ditch all niceties to play a hard-nosed, mean-as-hell, extremely potty-mouthed and very violent Ira gang leader trying to lie low in rural Donegal following a deadly pub bombing. But it’s not long before she’s up against Liam Neeson, whose demeanor as a quiet widow and secondhand book dealer masks a secret identity as a local hitman for Colm Meaney’s village mobster. Sequels of a successful media franchise can turn out to be risky endeavors as we have witnessed in the past. Many franchises have gone on to make sequels that only ruin their masterpiece of a movie or legacy. The Hollywood star, Tom Cruise is also not a big fan of making sequels with the Mission Impossible franchise being the biggest exception of the star’s career.

Tom Cruise will definitely go down in history as one of the greatest action stars of all time. The American actor is one of the most established stars in the industry and has won multiple accolades including 3 Golden Globe awards throughout his career spanning over four decades.

Paramount is soaring high with the news of ‘Top Gun 3’ in development, engaging ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ co-scribe Ehren Kruger for scripting duties. The studio is also vying for Joseph Kosinski to helm the anticipated sequel, potentially reuniting Tom Cruise with his younger wingmen, Miles Teller and Glen Powell, for another adrenaline-fueled flight. The project’s inception began last year, yet awaits Cruise’s nod on the final script. Paramount remains tight-lipped amidst these revelations. Amidst these developments, Tom Cruise recently inked a non-exclusive deal with Warner Bros., permitting him to continue his legacy with Paramount and Universal. This arrangement includes the

Adam Wingard's monster mash movie "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" is first-rate hooey, and that is meant as a compliment. It rolls with its kaiju mayhem with the sugared-up enthusiasm of a wiggly eight-year-old, inserting little thoughtfulness, emotion, or meaning into the proceedings. Many years ago, Godzilla stood as a symbol for nuclear devastation, and then later, a symbol of Japanese national pride. King Kong, meanwhile, was clearly a symbol for slavery and the perpetuation of colonialist entitlement. Wingard doesn't engage with either monster, seeing them instead as giant action figures that are real real good at knockin' s*** over. These are sentiments repeated from Wingard's glorious 2021 film "Godzilla vs. Kong," the film that cracked the code on Warner Bros. ever-growing MonsterVerse movies.
As with any film to feature King Kong, "GvK" featured scenes of human pilots taking to the air to battle the encroaching titans. Because this...

Paramount has prevailed in the lower courts in a copyright infringement case over Top Gun: Maverick.
In a decision handed down last Friday, April 5, a district judge dismissed the case, brought by the family of Ehud Yonay, a journalist whose 1983 story for California magazine, “Top Guns,” inspired the original 1986 film. At the time, Paramount secured the exclusive movie rights to the story and Yonay received a “based on” credit.

Lewis Hamilton is producing a Formula 1 movie with Joseph Kosinski starring Brad Pitt.
The British racing star could have worked with the filmmaker on Top Gun: Maverick had it not been for his conflicting work schedule.
In a new interview, Hamilton revealed he lobbied Tom Cruise to star in a possible Top Gun sequel before the 2022 film was made.
“I will even be a janitor,” Hamilton recalled in a GQ interview talking about his conversation with Cruise. “Just let me be in it.”
When Maverick entered the casting stage, Cruise remembered Hamilton and offered him a role as a pilot, but the racer had to decline due to his schedule, something he now regrets.

Racing superstar Lewis Hamilton is opening up about the time he passed on an opportunity to work with Tom Cruise that he still regrets today.
The Formula One driver revealed in a recent interview with GQ magazine that he befriended Cruise after the actor invited him to the set of his 2014 film Edge of Tomorrow. The pair continued to keep in contact — which consisted of Cruise sending Hamilton encouraging messages during races — and the racer eventually asked the actor to cast him in a hypothetical Top Gun sequel, years before Top Gun: Maverick actually came to fruition.

If you thought Lewis Hamilton’s ambitions were only about dominating the Formula One world, think again. Not only is Stevenage-born a master behind the wheel of a racing car, but he also aspires to conquer the silver screen.
During a recent GQ interview, the seven-time Formula One World Drivers’ Championship winner (joint-record) expressed a desire to focus on “film and fashion” after retiring from racing. And it now appears that his dream of co-starring in Top Gun 3 with Tom Cruise, who made his name as the hotshot pilot Maverick in the first Top Gun flick, may come true.

After the March 28 friends, family, and industry screening for Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” at Universal’s CityWalk AMC in IMAX, reactions were wild. Some said it was his most ambitious film since “Apocalypse Now;” another described it to Puck as “batshit crazy.” Made for $120 million and bankrolled entirely by Coppola through the sale of one of his vineyards, it incorporates new VFX techniques — ones, the filmmakers hope, will be seen on the biggest screens possible.
For that to happen, it will need a major theatrical deal and the filmmakers are now in talks with distributors and major studios. However, those entities have been particularly risk averse these days — and while Coppola is a legend, he hasn’t made a commercial success in three decades.
The film’s stars include Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, and Giancarlo Esposito; maybe, say, Paramount or Universal want to be back in the Coppola business.

Top Gun: Maverick was a monumental film for Tom Cruise as it brought back his iconic role of Pete Maverick in a sequel that managed to improve upon the original. The film became a huge success and the highest-grossing film in Cruise’s career. The film also saw Miles Teller, Glen Powell. Monica Barbaro and Danny Ramirez in key roles.

Moviegoers had to wait 36 years between “Top Gun” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” but the third film in the franchise might be coming much sooner. Paramount announced plans to proceed with “Top Gun 3” in January 2024, with Tom Cruise expected to return alongside Glen Powell and Miles Teller.
Cruise’s busy schedule, which includes a sequel to “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and an untitled English language feature from Alejandro González Iñárritu, makes it unlikely that he’ll be able to start production on “Top Gun 3” in the immediate future. But according to franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer, “Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski’s new script is coming along smoothly.

For over thirty years, I would have said that director Tony Scott’s 1986 classic Top Gun should be left as a standalone movie… but then the sequel Top Gun: Maverick came along in 2022 and turned out to be surprisingly awesome, proving that the story of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (played by Tom Cruise in both films) was worth returning to after all. Continuing his story also paid off at the box office, with the film pulling in almost $1.5 billion at the box office. So it’s no surprise to hear that Cruise, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski, and Paramount Pictures are already moving forward with a Top Gun 3. While talking to Screen Rant about the upcoming release of his spy action comedy The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Bruckheimer gave a small update on the sequel, saying there’s a “wonderful story idea” in place.

The second movie not only revived the franchise but Hollywood in its entirety. During and after the pandemic, audiences going to theatres to watch movies had gone down by large numbers.

Many will say that Tom Cruise saved theaters in the post-pandemic era thanks to the success of Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the 1986 cult classic aviation movie directed by the late Tony Scott. In an area of streaming, Cruise insisted on theatrical releases, and it was a well-made gamble, as Maverick earned an amazing $1.496 billion worldwide, becoming the second highest-grossing movie of the year (behind Avatar 2) and the highest-grossing in Cruise’s career. The movie also earned numerous awards and nominations, being critically acclaimed.
Now, soaring on the success of the sequel (pun intended), it makes sense that the studio and the producers wanted to bring us another sequel, and we all know that the movie, tentatively titled Top Gun 3, is in active development.

Jerry Bruckheimer provides an update on Top Gun 3, revealing there’s a “wonderful story idea” for the sequel, but says Tom Cruise’s schedule means it’s all still up in the air.
As we’ve already seen this morning, producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s been doing the media rounds of late, dropping news nuggets like this one about the status of the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise.
He’s also talked a little bit about Top Gun 3 – something we mentioned in the story linked in that previous sentence, but thought was worth busting out for its own separate post.
It was announced earlier this year that Top Gun 3 is definitely happening, but there’s a slight problem: Tom Cruise is so perpetually busy that Bruckheimer isn’t entirely sure when the high-altitude sequel will start filming.
The good news, though, is that Joseph Kosinski, who directed the hit Top Gun: Maverick,...

Tom Cruise is a busy man, which makes it all but impossible to put a timeline on when “Top Gun” fans might finally get to see a third installment in the beloved action-drama franchise. Variety confirmed in January that Paramount was developing “Top Gun 3” and had tapped its “Top Gun: Maverick” co-writer Ehren Kruger to work on the screenplay. Franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer now tells ScreenRant he has no idea when Cruise might even have free time in his schedule to shoot the third “Top Gun” film.
“It will be Tom Cruise [leading the cast],” Bruckheimer said. “Tom is amazing. We spent time with him. We have a story. Joe Kosinski had a wonderful story idea for it, and [Tom] said, ‘I really like that,’ so we’re developing it. But you never know when it’s going to get made because Tom is so busy. "Oblivion" feels like the rare big-budget Tom Cruise vehicle that doesn't get talked about very much, despite being helmed by the A-lister's "Top Gun: Maverick" director Joseph Kosinski. The film casts Cruise as Jack Harper, a humble maintenance techie who oversees operations on Earth in the wake of an alien attack that forced humanity to abandon the planet. All is not what it seems, though, as Jack keeps having visions of a mysterious woman from his past (Olga Kurylenko), only for her to abruptly crash-land on Earth out of the blue. Basically, if you were to chuck "The Twilight Zone," "2001: A Space Odyssey," the original 1977 "Star Wars," and a handful of other '60s and '70s sci-fi titles into a blender, you might come up with something like "Oblivion."

The 2010 science fiction action film directed by Joseph Kosinski, Tron: Legacy, was a box office hit. Starring Garrett Hedlund, Jeff Bridges, and Olivia Wilde, the film is a direct sequel to Tron (1982), and is directed by Steven Lisberger. Made 28 years after the first movie, Tron: Legacy made up in visuals and sound what it lacked in story. The movie was also nominated for an Oscar that year in the Best Sound Editing category, but lost to Richard King for Inception.

When something works, it’s natural to try to duplicate the success. The romantic comedy Anyone But You‘s success somewhat flew under the radar, but in a good victory for mid-budget movies, the movie made a record-breaking $200 million worldwide. Additionally, both of the film’s stars’ careers are taking with upcoming projects. Glen Powell will be appearing in this summer’s Twisters, and Sydney Sweeney will be starring in next month’s horror flick, Immaculate. However, just like Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan or Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, Powell and Sweeney know you can never have too much of a good thing.
Powell spoke with Variety’s Senior Culture and Events Editor Marc Malkin at the SAG Awards on Saturday night. The Top Gun: Maverick star revealed that he and his Anyone But You co-star are currently sifting through scripts looking for their next big project. Powell explained,...

Could “Anyone But You” co-stars Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney be the next Julia Roberts and George Clooney? The duo’s work on the past romantic comedy just brought in a record-breaking $200 million worldwide. Thus setting the twosome up as a bankable pair that audiences might be ready to watch fall in (and out) of love over and over.
So what’s next for the couple that saved the rom-com? More scripts, revealed to Powell to Variety’s Senior Culture and Events Editor Marc Malkin at the SAG Awards on Saturday night.
Powell stopped by Variety‘s “On the Carpet” presented by Directv at the award ceremony to give a brief update.
“When you find somebody that you really jive with, Sydney is so easy to work with and so fun. We’re definitely trying to find the next thing,” Powell said. “Please send us all the scripts you got.

It's been nearly a decade and a half since Disney took us back into the digital world of Tron with the long-awaited, eagerly anticipated sequel "Tron Legacy." Fueled by an unbelievable soundtrack from Daft Punk, the film from "Top Gun: Maverick" director Joseph Kosinski was visually dazzling and offered up some exhilarating action sequences, even if the story left something to be desired. While certain elements of the movie haven't aged very well, such as a digitally, de-aged duplicate of a young Jeff Bridges who now looks like he's in an old video game rather than a blockbuster movie, I think "Tron Legacy" delivers a satisfying sci-fi adventure, and the highs outweigh the lows.
Well, with "Tron 3" reportedly starting production last month, there's no better time to revisit "Tron Legacy" in the form of an incredible new piece of artwork by artist Raid71, on sale today at Bottleneck Gallery.

The disaster film Twister (watch it Here) was a massive success for Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, and Amblin Entertainment when it was released during the summer movie season in 1996. Made on a budget of $90 million, it earned almost $500 million at the global box office and ranked as the tenth highest-grossing film of all time. Quickly cashing in with a sequel would have made a lot of sense. But while there were rumors – including a memorable one that said the sequel would involve a tornado hitting a major city – a follow-up never made it into production. Until now. Universal and Amblin are reviving the Twister IP with a film called Twisters, which is set to receive a theatrical release on July 19, 2024. Twenty-eight years later, will it be able to replicate or surpass the success of its predecessor? We’ll have to wait and see. But for know, we’re going to...

Apple has spared no expense with its embrace of movie theaters, shelling out $200 million to produce historical epics, war dramas and action comedies… all while the global box office contracts and rivals scramble to tighten their budgets.
For most studios, these expenditures would be ruinous at a time when hardly any movie is earning enough money to justify that kind of budget. As one of the deepest-pocketed companies in the world, though, Apple’s spending habits in the entertainment space are jokingly called rounding errors. Los Angeles, Feb 2 (Ians) Hollywood star Brad Pitt is likely reuniting with Quentin Tarantino for the filmmaker’s 10th and ostensibly final feature, ‘The Movie Critic’.
The status of the deal is unclear. Tarantino has remained tight-lipped about ‘The Movie Critic’ but it’s reportedly set in southern California during the 1970s and centres on a cynical film reviewer, reports Variety.
It’s rumoured to be inspired by the life of Pauline Kael, the late New Yorker writer who was one of the most influential film critics of her time.
Tarantino sidestepped inquiries about ‘The Movie Critic’ during a conversation at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, saying to audience: “I can’t tell you guys (anything) until you see the movie. I’m tempted to do some of the character’s monologues right now, but I’m not going to. Maybe if there were less video cameras. You just have to wait and see.

Tarantino has remained tight-lipped about “The Movie Critic,” but it’s reportedly set in southern California during the 1970s and center on a cynical film reviewer. It’s rumored to be inspired by the life of Pauline Kael, the late New Yorker writer who was one of the most influential film critics of her time.
Tarantino sidestepped inquiries about “The Movie Critic” during a conversation at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, saying to audience members, “I can’t tell you guys [anything] until you see the movie. I’m tempted to do some of the character’s monologues right now, but I’m not going to. Maybe if there were less video cameras. You just have to wait and see.”

Brad Pitt is looking to reunite with Quentin Tarantino for The Movie Critic, his 10th and apparently final film, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
The duo previously collaborated on Inglourious Basterds (2009) and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), which landed Pitt a best supporting actor Oscar for the role of stuntman Cliff Booth.
It is unclear if Pitt has a deal for the Tarantino movie, but the actor will be tied up working on a Formula One racing feature for Apple and director Joseph Kosinski for much of the rest of the year. Filming on The Movie Critic would then commence, either late this year or in early 2025.
Tarantino has said he will retire from feature filmmaking after 10 films, which would make The Movie Critic his final film. The project is said to be set in 1970s Southern California, and is inspired by a cynical movie critic Tarantino read growing up.
