Australian duo Empire of the Sun are back to usher in a new era with their new single, “Changes.” Stream it below.
Produced by Empire of the Sun with frequent collaborator Peter Mayes and Swedish hitmakers Vargas & Lagola, Magnus Lidehäll, and Pontus Winnberg, “Changes” features a sleek, glossy electropop instrumental with big, sweeping synths. Equally dramatic are the lyrics about digging deep within: “We go far to the early break of dawn/ We wearing faces that we’ve never worn before.”
The Michael Maxxis-directed music video was filmed in Thailand and follows a young kid who witnesses a spaceship crash. Watch it below.
In a statement, Lord Nick Littlemore said the song “represents the shifting sands of time, empires rise and fall but the sun shall shine on.” He also invited listeners to “come once more into the world we’ve created, delve deeper within and be rewarded with its ever-expanding story,...

The last few months have boasted a fair amount of impressive album releases from various artists populating the Edm scene. From up-and-coming sensation Porter Robinson’s spellbinding debut Worlds, and deadmau5’s epic While (1<2), some of the most lauded names in the industry are peppering store shelves and iTunes carts with fresh new releases. Today, another of EDMs heavy-hitters joins the party, as raft-riding and cake-tossing DJ Steve Aoki’s sophomore studio album, Neon Future, sees its release.
It’s tough to build flow in an album when there are only 10 songs, but when you factor in that Neon Future, Aoki’s second foray into the more commercial studio album game, features an ambitious intro and outro track (cutting the total track length to a paltry eight), the task becomes that much more difficult. Unfortunately, the DJ’s sophomore effort falls short in its aspiration to resemble an album, instead...

Not even Beyonce can compete with ten-pronged metallic headdresses, a smattering of rave-ready face paint and a genre of music described as "sci-fi synth pop." No, those theatrical assists belong to Empire of the Sun, the Australian electronic music duo comprised of longtime collaborators Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore, who took the stage just after dark at Jay Z and Budweiser's Made in America Festival on Aug. 31 in Philadelphia.
The fantastical act, only seen in outrageous costumes -- think intergalactic David Bowie for the Edm generation, but with Cirque Du Soleil backup dancers and even more face paint and feathers -- debuted in 2008 with "Walking On A Dream." The title track and "We Are The People" helped the album go gold, and they spent the next two years on the summer festival circuit. But it took them 18 months, until May 2013, to make new tunes and perform live again. The sophomore record,...

Though the sequel to “Dumb and Dumber” had often been speculated about, it still came as a nice surprise to fans when it was officially announced, with Universal giving it a home. An even bigger surprise is the speed at which the film is coming. Due to the fact that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels both have projects in the pipeline, they have to start production on “Dumb and Dumber To” very soon. That means a production that had no traction just a week ago is about to see quite a few news updates. The first of which is that the Farrelly Brothers have found someone to score the soundtrack for the upcoming sequel.Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore from the glam pop duo Empire of the Sun have been approached by Peter and Bobby Farrelly to score the soundtrack for “Dumb and Dumber To.” The Australia-based band just recently...

-- Empire of the Sun, "Ice on the Dune" (Astralwerks)
Empire of the Sun's new album opens with the instrumental track "Lux," using drums of epic grandeur to build the anticipation for a record we have waited five years to hear.
That's followed by "DNA," a surefire single and the strongest track on "Ice on the Dune." The voice of lead singer Luke Steele – who has co-written songs for Usher and Beyonce – blends nicely as he sings "be my DNA" over a brilliant beat, which results in a pounding chorus
The Australian electronic duo's sophomore album and follow-up to 2008's "Walking on a Dream" is polished. It seems like almost every song could be a summer anthem.
The lyrics are loved up, and even in the slower moments on the record, Empire of the Sun gets it right. The title track is dreamy and smooth, as Steele sings: "Let's go running away,...

Given the incredibly fast-paced, blink-and-you-miss-it, flash-in-the-pan, hit-singles-or-bust state of the music industry these days, career longevity is almost as difficult for an artist to achieve as fame and recognition itself. R&B superstar Usher is clearly an exception, as Tuesday (June 12) marks the release of the seventh studio album in his 18-year career. Usher has said that Looking 4 Myself represents an "evolution" for him in several ways, and judging from the positive reviews, critics seem to agree. Without further ado, let's take a tour through the Looking 4 Myself reviews.
The Story of "Myself"
"To the list of people who've had mind-altering experiences at Coachella, you can add Usher. In April he was a surprise guest at the music festival,...

BJöRK: Biophilia
(One Little Indian)
Usually with each new Björk album comes the often wishful mutterings of it finally representing her "return to pop", as if she's about to recreate Debut, move back to London and start dating Goldie again. Needless to say, Biophilia – an album prefaced by an elaborate iPad app and thematically encompassing the entire universe – isn't loaded with singles. Björk chooses instead to flit between the beautiful ("Cosmogony"), the downright creepy ("Hollow") and, in "Mutual Core", the world's first song about tectonic plates set to a ravey mesh of bleeps and whooshes. Lyrically, it finds Björk musing on both the universal and the personal in a way she's only hinted at before,...

Empire of the Sun frontman Luke Steele has revealed that work on a second album has begun. The singer confirmed that he met up with Nick Littlemore in a recording studio earlier in the year and the pair have started work on new material. "Breaking news around the world, me and Nick have reunited and we've done about ten demos for the next record so the new [Empire of the Sun] era has begun," Steele told NME. Littlemore has had little contact with Steele and Empire of the Sun as he has been busy working on a new album, titled Soft Universe, with his original band Pnau. He has also been working as a musical director for Cirque du Soleil's (more)...
