Gay-hate crime documentary Killing Off the Beat has launched a crowdfunding campaign in a bid to investigate a dark period in Sydney's history.
The film, written and produced by Serkan Ozturk, will attempt to unravel a part of Sydney.s recent history that saw men fall prey to .gay-hate killings., assaults and bashings at gay beats..
Ozturk said of the deaths were not properly investigated by police at the time and were classified mostly as "suicide" despite links between a large number of the incidents to anti-gay violence.
Spanning a period between the first Mardi Gras in 1978 to the present day, the independent film will focus on a number of key threads to build community and political pressure for a Royal Commission or another independent high-level body to look at historical gay-hate killings.
It will also look at past and current-day cases of alleged police brutality, according to Ozturk.

With today marking the exact one-year point away from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder and WB have given fans a glimpse at the iconic villain Lex Luthor, in his new incarnation. Come inside to check it out!
If Batman V Superman is anything less than gold the realm of DC/Comic Book Fandom will explode. You take the achingly high Batman expectations laid by Nolan’s trilogy, and set it against perhaps the most iconic Super Hero ever (Superman, if I really must say), and you set yourself up for either infinite glory, or just as infinite reputation destruction. It also goes without saying that eager fans will eat up any revealing details you can throw at them.
So today we have some good munchies for the fans, the first images of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, appropriately shaved clean and with a menacing look (Provided by...

The first picture of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor from Zack Snyder's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice has just premiered. Much was made over whether or not Eisenberg would have hair or not and I think this pretty much answers that question. Snyder was quoted by Entertainment Weekly, who premiered the pic, saying, "He's not any of the Lexes that you've seen, that's for sure, other than him being a captain of industry and one person to the world and another person to himself. And bald, of course. Our Lex is disarming and he's not fake. He says what he believes and he says what's on his mind. If you can unravel the string and decipher what he means, it's all there." To go along with that, digital artist Scott Johnson posted his own color-corrected version on Twitter. This isn't official, but might give you a better idea...

The best movie culture writing from around the internet-o-sphere. There will be a quiz later. Just leave a tab open for us, will ya? “Wes Anderson, advertiser” — Noel Murray at The Dissolve reconciles a lengthy career in making commercials, porting his artistic style and influences between storytelling and hocking. “Critical Condition” — Kent Jones at Film Comment offers a State of the Theory by spotlighting two important outliers in film criticism. It’s rare that articles complement each other so well, but this makes a fantastic double feature with the Anderson piece above. “A Train, a Narrow Trestle and 60 Seconds to Escape: How Midnight Rider Victim Sarah Jones Lost Her Life” — A vital piece of reporting (even with the I-Knew-Something-Was-Wrong hindsight of some of the quotes), Scott Johnson at THR gets first-hand accounts of what went wrong on a film shoot whose safety plan amounted to crossed fingers.

Women in Film: Marilyn Monroe, Ava Gardner, and dozens of movie actresses in curious morphing montage A few dozen top international female movie stars, most of them Hollywood celebrities, are seen in the Women in Film morphing montage below created by Philip Scott Johnson. The faces belong to actresses from the 1910s to the early 21st century. (Image: The ‘Daughter’ of Marilyn Monroe and Ava Gardner — who sort of looks like a cross between Eleanor Parker and Cyd Charisse as well — in the Women in Film morphing montage.) Just as interesting as trying to identify each of the famous faces is stopping the video while the morphing is going on, so you get Daughter of Marilyn Monroe and Ava Gardner, or Daughter of Audrey Hepburn and Dorothy Dandridge, or Daughter of Michelle Pfeiffer and Sigourney Weaver. Some of those Daughters are quite pretty; others look like they’ve just landed on this planet.

A roadie with Cheap Trick has filed a lawsuit against organizers of the Ottawa Bluesfest and a staging company following a stage collapse while the group was performing at the 2011 Ottawa Bluesfest.
The Ottawa Citizen reports Sandy Sanderson filed a statement of claim May 28 accusing the festival and Groupe Berger and Mega Stage Inc. of gross negligence and "created a situation of danger" by not properly monitoring weather conditions in and around the area. David Lussier of Groupe Berger and Project X Productions, the company who provided video screens, lighting and set up of the main stage, are also named in the suit.
The statement adds both organizers and the staging company didn't follow safety procedures including freeing the main stage's wind walls before a storm descended in the area and didn't erect the stage in compliance with proper building codes. "When the existence of the hazard became known, they...

At "Community's" Los Angeles PaleyFest panel on March 5, the cast and producers of the NBC comedy were on hand to preview what's ahead in Season 4: namely puppets, paintball, origin stories and a "Freaky Friday" homage penned by actor and Oscar winner Jim Rash.
Stars Joel McHale (Jeff), Gillian Jacobs (Britta), Alison Brie (Annie), Danny Pudi (Abed), Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown), and Rash (Dean Pelton) were on the panel, along with producers Moses Port, David Guarascio, Russ Krasnoff and Tristram Shapeero.
The biggest news that emerged from the event was undoubtedly the aforementioned puppet episode, which will see the "Community" gang immortalized in felt form by Scott Johnson and Drew Massey, who were responsible for turning David Boreanaz into a fuzzy figure in the "Angel" episode titled "Smile Time."

Radiohead have rescheduled seven shows following a stage collapse in Toronto earlier this month. The band postponed the European dates after the stage collapsed at the Downsview Park venue, killing crew member Scott Johnson. Most of the delayed shows were due to take place in July in Italy, Germany and Switzerland, but have now been moved to late September, NME reports. Radiohead have postponed a number of tour dates following the recent stage collapse in Toronto. The King of Limbs band were scheduled to play at Downsview Park last Saturday (June 16) before the roof fell down, killing 33-year-old drum technician Scott Johnson. The group have now issued a statement confirming that shows in Italy, Germany and Switzerland - due to take place at the end of June and beginning of July - will be moved to a later date. The tournament’s wooden spoon showdown takes place at Rome, with the two teams that many predicted would be contesting the match present. How different, however, are the paths that they have taken to get here.
Italy have looked, at best, lacking a cutting edge in attack during the Six Nations and at worst have looked thoroughly hopeless. So short of international quality is the number 10 Kris Burton that it has been enough for me to consider a number of times to move to Italy, qualify on residency grounds and be their next fly-half. It was always going to be a thankless task for new coach Jacques Brunel; following in the footsteps of Nick Mallet and his relatively successful tenure in charge of the Azzurri. Yet, with no major international retirements and only a handful of injuries to key men, such as Martin Castrogiovanni, who returns for this match, and...

In a good sign of things to come, the first folks cast in Fox's fourth Wrong Turn film are officially its inbred mutants! Hopefully this emphasis on killer over the meat for the beast roles carries over into the tone of the film. They are the reason we'll be watching after all.
I miss the days when the killers were the stars of the show. Still, I'm probably just reading into nothing at all, as a means to be hopeful. According to Winnipeg Free Press the role of "Three Finger" is being played by Sean Skene and "One Eye" is being played by his actor-brother Daniel Skene. Their father, Rick Skene, is the film’s stunt co-ordinator. Rounding out the killer trio is Winnipeg actor Scott Johnson as "Sawtooth."
Also cast are Jennifer Pudavick (Wishmaster III, Wishmaster IV, The Plague) as Kenia, a potential victim, and Tenika Davis.
