Steven Spielberg Does What He Wants: 6 Things Every Fan Must Know About Hollywood’s Biggest Director
We all know that Steven Spielberg floats at the top of the Hollywood food chain. He’s Hollywood’s most reliable director brand, and can get movies made that would never get a greenlight anywhere else — like Oscar-winning historical drama “Lincoln.” His next move? A high-profile Pentagon Papers film rumored to star Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep that Variety reports will open on December 22, and will inevitably be an Oscar contender.
How does he keep his enviable status, even at age 70?
1. Steven does what Steven wants.
Spielberg is a moving target, even for those at Amblin Entertainment who work closely with him every day. While he’s worth some $3 billion and likes to make money, his directing choices are driven by a complicated set of variables. He seeks to avoid any risk of failure. It all depends on where his confidence — and artistic drive — takes him. Is he ready to...

Looks like there may be some bad blood between Steven Spielberg and Harvey Weinstein.
A few months ago, Spielberg announced that he'll follow Ready Player One with a movie called The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara, which Lincoln and Munich screenwriter Tony Kushner has adapted from David Kertzer's book. Here's the description, just to get you up to speed:
Bologna: nightfall, June 1858. A knock sounds at the door of the Jewish merchant Momolo Mortara. Two officers of the Inquisition bust inside and seize Mortara's six-year-old son, Edgardo. As the boy is wrenched from his father's arms, his mother collapses. The reason for his abduction: the boy had been secretly "baptized" by a family servant. According to papal law, the child is therefore a Catholic who can be taken from his family and delivered to a special monastery where his conversion will be completed. With this terrifying scene, prize-winning historian David I. Kertzer...

After working with the Coens, Steven Soderbergh, Ridley Scott, Nicolas Winding Refn, Alex Garland, J.J. Abrams. and Rian Johnson, Oscar Isaac is now adding the most accomplished name in blockbuster filmmaking to his resume: Steven Spielberg. He’s in talks to join the director’s next next feature The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara, which already has Mark Rylance on board, Variety reports.
Adapted by Tony Kushner based on David Kertzer‘s book, it follows a secretly baptized Jewish boy in Italy who is kidnapped to be raised as a Christian, which ignites a larger political battle. Spielberg plans to shoot the film early next year after wrapping Ready Player One, which recently went into production. As we wait for more details, including Isaac’s exact role, check out Amazon‘s description of the book below, followed by a new video essay on the historical accuracy of Saving Private Ryan.

Steven Spielberg has found his next film project. Deadline reports that the director will reunite with his Bridge of Spies and The Bfg star Mark Rylance for a film called The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara, which is based on the 1997 book by David Kertzer. Here's the synopsis:

Director Steven Spielberg is heading into an incredibly busy streak, and he’s taking fellow Academy Award winner Mark Rylance with him. Having cast the actor in 2015’s Bridge Of Spies, to great acclaim, Spielberg then found a spot for him in his forthcoming rendition of Roald Dahl’s The Bfg, and has now confirmed that this fledgling creative partnership will continue with The Kidnapping Of Edgardo Mortara.
Based on the 1997 book by Pulitzer Prize winner David Kertzer, and adapted for the screen by Tony Kushner (Lincoln, Munich, Angels In America), The Kidnapping Of Edgardo Mortara is set in Italy, in 1858, and tells a story of religious and social intrigue that would have ramifications far beyond the community in which it begins.
Here’s the full plot summary:

When Steven Spielberg loves to work with you, there's a very good chance that that relationship will span several movies. After working with Mark Rylance on both Bridge Of Spies and The Bfg, Deadline is reporting that Steven Spielberg and Mark Rylance will be reuniting for a third film, an adaption of David I. Kertzer's "The Kidnapping Of Edgardo Mortara".... Read More...

The speed at which Steven Spielberg‘s currently operating is almost exhausting to even think about. In the less-than-nine-month gap between Bridge of Spies and The Bfg alone, he’s set himself to premiere Ready Player One and Indiana Jones V in the summers of 2018 and 2019, respectively — which would seem like enough, so I’ll consider myself especially excited for whatever it is in The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara that has him going into production at the start of next year.
Then again, the pairing of lead and scribe is as good as he could hope for. Deadline have learned that Spielberg will, in early 2017, roll cameras on Edgardo Mortara, a Tony Kushner-scripted drama in which Mark Rylance — Bridge of Spies‘ scene-stealing Oscar winner and that eponymous Big Friendly Giant in the director’s next feature — will play Pope Pius IX. Based on David Kertzer‘s 1997 tome, it’s...
