Sick of low-quality videos filmed vertically on iPhones? Sony has a new channel that will satisfy you. The consumer electronics company has launched a YouTube channel called Sony4K, on which it shares videos filmed in the ultra-high definition 4K format.
For those unfamiliar with 4K resolution, all you need to know is that it is equivalent to 2160p, which is twice as sharp as the 1080p resolution that has become the standard for high definition videos on YouTube. This means that videos shot in 4K look amazing, no matter if they feature ballerinas or winemakers or girl skateboarders. You can find short films about all three of those subjects--and several others--on Sony’s new channel. As with all 4K videos, an important caveat applies: If you’re not watching on a top-of-the-line PC, you’re probably going to receive a juddery, uneven viewing experience.

In 2008, before Tosh.0, before @midnight, and before the art of viral video became a mainstream trend, Brett Erlich hosted Viral Video Film School, a recurring segment on Current TV's InfoMania program. Erlich's witty takes on viral video trends proved to be popular, and his segment outlived InfoMania, which was cancelled in 2010 (Current TV is now know as Al Jazeera America.) Erlich continued to post new Viral Video Film School episodes until March 2012, when the channel went dormant. It has now returned with a new episode, where Erlich encounters the preponderance of sleepy children on YouTube. "Hey," says a shirtless, wide-eyed Erlich, "I like to watch kids sleep." He then shares a bunch of videos featuring children who tucker out in inopportune places: At the airport, in moving toy cars, and even standing up at the ski slope. He finishes his return episode by extending his focus to adults, who...

Wigs isn’t the only YouTube channel that’s testing out Hulu waters. The Young Turks Network is hoping to make waves on the premium online video streaming service, too. The burgeoning online video brand that’s home to its eponymous flagship daily news program announced today it would be assembling a version of The Young Turks especially for Hulu. A 30-minute daily edition of The Young Turks will be available on the premium online video destination site and feature the top five or so stories of the day culled from The Young Turk Network's CEO and frontman, Cenk Uygur and The Young Turks' host, Ana Kasparian’s two-hour daily news show. But in addition to the news, The Young Turks Network will also put together a 30-minute weekly version of its pop culture talk show PopTrigger. Once again, the show will feature the most popular and engaging segments...

The most highly anticipated TV debut of Fall 2013 has its online companion. Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., a Joss Whedon production directly tied to the talented director's work on The Avengers, hyped up its September 24th premiere with the launch of Declassified, a web series offering a behind-the-scenes look at the promising new thriller. In the first episode, host Brett Erlich gives viewers some background on the series so that Marvel Universe novices won't lag behind Avengers superfans while watching the show. Erlich explains what the acronym S.H.I.E.L.D. actually stands for, gives some background about the series' premise (which, if you don't know, is basically 'Men In Black but with superheroes'), and gets an assist from lead actor Clark Gregg, who plays Agent Phil Coulson on the series. Basically, it's similar to all the other web companions that savvy TV producers have rolled out over the last couple of years; however,...

Title: Dead Dad Director: Ken J. Adachi Starring: Kyle Arrington, Jenni Melear, Lucas K. Peterson, Allyn Rachel, Ben Hethcoat, Brett Erlich A fitful but engaging tale of familial drift and erratic reconnection, director Ken J. Adachi’s debut film, “Dead Dad,” exhibits a mature grasp beyond its years of the manner in which swallowed adolescent resentments pervert adult relationships. Shot over the course of a month and produced entirely from the funds of a successful Kickstarter campaign, “Dead Dad” is robustly emblematic of a certain slice of what I’ve coined “Silver Lake cinema,” ambling Los Angeles-set dramedies that — with a nod toward mumblecore and an indebted fist bump for Miranda [ Read More ]

Update, 12:45 Pm: Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm will anchor The War Room from San Francisco so she and her husband can continue with their temporary appointments teaching at the University of California at Berkeley. She’ll also continue to appear on Meet The Press. Granholm says her show will focus primarily on politics and public policy with a special focus on “solutions to the most pressing problems out there.” But she hopes to leven the mix by regularly featuring contributions from satirist Brett Erlich as well as viewer-generated content such as videos from the campaign trail. Granholm describes herself as being “on the left end of the spectrum” but with views that were shaped by her experience as “a pragmatic governor.” Current co-founder Al Gore says that he’ll appear from time to time on the network’s shows, including Granholm’s — and may participate in coverage of election news events.

No hat, but I'm not complaining.
Welcome back to Celebrity Twitterwatch, where we take a look at what the beautiful people are saying about their beautiful lives. It's kind of like a visiting a zoo, but with better decorators.
Harry Shum, Jr. was the toast of Glee this week, and that meant doing press. In the old days, he would have dressed up and met a publicist at the Beverly Hilton pool and seen a parade of journalists. Now, he rolls out of bed and gets dressed. Well, sort of. I'd like to think this is how he lives life generally. Every gentleman should wear a hat.
Speaking of media attention, comic and former MTV VJ Dave Holmes took time to note that in his passing, Steve Jobs had performed a selfless act and done the impossible: He pulled a spotlight away from Sarah Palin.

As the 2011 Webby Award voting comes to a close, we discovered a horror musical gem nominated for best Variety clip going up against such titans as Stan Lee, TedTalks and Zach Galifianakis and his two ferns. Saw: The Musical, as sung by infoMania personalities Brett Erlich and Ellen Fox, details every diabolical Saw kill in one ninety second ditty. FEARnet contacted the clip's writer/producer Brett Erlich about how this musical ode to Saw came about. Erlich says it initially took shape when they realized how "insanely intricate" the plot to Saw 3D was and thusly, that the whole franchise needed to be mocked…in song. "Knocking out the lyrics didn't take nearly as long as making sure...

A lot has been said about Danny Trejo's face (Current TV's Brett Erlich memorably said that "Trejo's face looks like it's wearing another face"), and not just because its leathery crags and valleys make it seem less like human skin and more like something it takes Greg Nicotero two hours to apply every morning. Danny Trejo's face is such a focal point because until Machete it's all that Danny Trejo has ever been to most people. But when I was 11, I thought of him as my favorite babysitter. From Heat to Desperado to From Dusk Till Dawn his grizzled mug would show up in just about everything I would pull from the local video store, and when my parents went out to dinner or worked late, it was often Trejo who was left to tuck me in. So despite usually playing criminals, killers, and rapists (Johnny 23!), he's...

Both gurls in this picture are big and muscular.
Here at TwitterWatch, we've said goodbye to our abs and come to the realization that Twitterstalking celebrities for a living is not conducive to a healthy lifestyle. Our celebrities are a mixed bag though. Most make their living, at least partially on their good looks, but summertime BBQs provide a lot of temptation to be on Team Food instead of Team Gym.
Considering he runs in Broadway circles with a lot of actresses, when I saw Cheyenne Jackson tweeting about a "good facelift" I assumed he was at an event with Joan Rivers. It turns out he was just faking a good facelift with the #1 girl in his life, on a grassy hillock somewhere in New York City.
Comedian Josh Thomas, who announced his breakup from his boyfriend on Twitter, is experiencing the conflicts of being newly single and back in the dating pool.

Thanks to his “That’s Gay” segment on Current TV’s Infomania, Bryan Safi has become one of the most recognizable gay comedians in American pop culture. His satirical segments have taken on everything from the ridiculous phrase “No homo” to the terror that is gays attending prom to protecting the sacred institution of divorce from the gays.
In fact, Bryan is so immersed in gay culture, he claims to now be the gayest person on the planet. AfterElton.com recently caught up with Bryan to debate who really deserves that title, how “That’s Gay” came to be and much more.
AfterElton: I just want to clear one thing up so our readers aren't confused: even though we're both gay, this interview will be "no homo", right?
Bryan Safi: Of course! Just make sure you put it at the very end.
Ae: Will do. I know that you...

Earlier this year, Rotten Tomatoes and Current TV took a chance and launched a movie review television show unlike any other: one based on the myriad viewpoints and opinions of the moviegoers themselves. The Rotten Tomatoes Show, now 25 weeks old, has proven to be a success, featuring webcam reviews submitted by viewers, Current TV and Rt community members, film critics, and filmmakers. However, another big reason for its success is the chemistry and wit of its hosts, Ellen Fox and Brett Erlich. Some may recognize Fox from her few small film roles, or from her days as a film...

Fred Willard and Jane Lynch’s hilarious parody of Entertainment Tonight-ish hosts in For Your Consideration highlights what Christopher Guest’s mockumentaries do best - it shows blinding American enthusiasm at its zenith. So, if the aggressive cheeriness of network entertainment shows leaves you in sugar shock, you’ll likely gravitate towards the flavor of The Rotten Tomatoes Show. Something like The Insider sprinkled with ironic humor, The Rotten Tomatoes Show is a good concept that just hasn’t had enough time to cook. Billing itself as “a fast-paced, comedic journey through the week in cinema,” Trts delivers on that promise while attempting to be in on the joke at the same time, but ends up becoming a mish-mash of competing forces. Hosts and contributing writers Ellen Fox and Brett Erlich (of Viral Video Film School), a stable of side kicks, and professional and amateur film critics do their...

If a girl is smart and pretty, I turn to jelly. But if she's also funny? Sheesh, let's just say it's a good thing I just bought the new edition of Stalking for Dummies. Case in point is the adorable Ms. Ellen Fox, who (along with amusing dude Brett Erlich) is the host of Current TV's The Rotten Tomatoes Show. Every week these guys (and their co-writers) come up with something unexpectedly clever and downright "Lol" funny. Last week it was this breezy little ditty about the appeal of leading man chest hair. You may have to spin the clip twice to absorb all the lyrics, but it's worth the three extra minutes.

Welcome to a Saturday, which is when much of the blog-world slows down a bit and takes it easy. (Plus we don't get a whole lot of fresh movie news on most Saturdays.) So that's a perfect excuse to settle in for a 25-minute excerpt from the inaugural episode of The Rotten Tomatoes Show. Broadcast on Current TV (Thursday, 10:30), the show is hosted by Brett Erlich and Ellen Fox. No, neither of them are film critics, but they're both pretty quick, smart, and amusing. Plus neither of 'em claims to be a film critic.

Faithful Rotten Tomatoes readers know that we're always expanding and looking for new ways to keep these vines vibrant, unique, and exciting. Our latest endeavor: The Rotten Tomatoes Show, a movie review program that premiered last night (it's created by and featured on Current TV, where you can watch the premiere at any time). Hosts Brett Erlich and Ellen Fox give their take on the big-name movies, run down movie lists, ask the big questions ("Will there ever be a good video game movie?"), and, most important to you, feature your submitted reviews and thoughts on the program.
