Exclusive: Cineflix Rights has snapped up ITV Studios’ distribution boss in the U.S.
Greg Johnson has moved to the Last King of the Cross distributor in the newly-created post of EVP Americas and Asia Pacific, as Cineflix looks to expand in the region.
Reporting to CEO Tim Mutimer and starting in April, LA-based Johnson will lead the distributor’s scripted and unscripted sales strategy across North America, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. He also work alongside execs James Durie and Richard Life to identify creative partners and IP, speaking with U.S. financiers and global networks.

Johnson, who joins the Cineflix senior leadership team, has held a similar role with Love Island and Snowpiercer seller ITV Studios for the past few years, having joined more than a decade ago. Past employers include BBC America and Disney.

Cineflix Rights, the UK-based distribution arm of Canada’s Cineflix Media, has signed a first-look development deal with British factual producer Curious Films.
The first-look deal gives Cineflix exclusive distribution rights to Curious’ new shows in return for development funding. Its existing slate includes BBC Three’s Britain’s Youngest Football Boss and the BBC Two documentary Chris Packham: 7.7 Billion People & Counting.
Richard Life, head of acquisitions at Cineflix Rights, said: “Curious Films has demonstrated the ability to win commissions from across the UK market for high-profile, attention-grabbing content which appeals to a wide range of audiences — particularly the 16-34 age group.”
Curious Films co-founder Dov Freedman added: “Partnering with Cineflix Rights provides us with the opportunity to move to our next phase of growth, building out from the UK into international markets.”

A raft of international broadcasters have acquired “The Day We Walked on the Moon.” The upcoming moon landings documentary special was produced by Scotland-based indie Finestripe for ITV in the U.K. and the Smithsonian Channel in the U.S.
It is distributed by Cineflix Rights, which has sold it to Seven Network in Australia and Kiwi pubcaster Tvnz, as well as Nhk in Japan.
In Europe, it has been picked up by broadcasters including Dr in Denmark, Nrk in Norway, and Nelonen in Finland. Mediaset’s Focus channel in Italy and Rtve in Spain have also taken the documentary. Pan-territory buyers include AMC, which has it for Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and Discovery, which has it for its networks in Asia.
The one-off documentary commemorates the 50th anniversary of the moon landings. It has interviews with figures in the Apollo 11 mission, including astronaut Michael Collins and flight director Gene Kranz.

London -- ITV director of acquisitions and co-productions Emmanuelle Namiech is stepping down from the post after more than 10 years at ITV, managing director of ITV Studios Lee Bartlett said Tuesday.
Namiech will step down from her role in December "to pursue new opportunities" after representing ITV to develop a range of scripted and nonscripted content and building relationships with independent producers over the past decade.
She will be replaced by her deputy, Richard Life, who takes the newly created role of head of acquisitions and co-productions at ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
Life will lead the acquisition and co-production team responsible for sourcing, developing, managing and funding content for the international division.
