After booking what will likely be a thankless role in Adam Sandler's "Pixels," we began to worry that producers didn't know what to do with "True Detective" star Michelle Monaghan. Luckily, we were wrong. There are still some interesting roles headed toward the actress, you may just have to look harder to find them. Claudia Myers writes and directs this drama about a woman and soldier who returns home from five years in Afghanistan and tries to become a mother again, to a young son who doesn't recognize or remember her. The story follows her journey as she tries to walk the line between her duty as a parent and a patriot. It's an interesting take on the war drama, and, while the notes seem familiar, here's hoping it's the actors who bring it up a level or two. Co-starring Ron Livingston, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Freddy Rodriguez, Dash Mihok and more,...

In recent years, Michelle Monaghan has really been an unsung hero of sorts. She excelled, perhaps most notably, in Ben Affleck‘s praised debut Gone Baby Gone, and hasn’t failed to maintain that level of quality in the years since. She was phenomenal in James Mottern‘s little-seen Trucker — she basically carried the whole film — and followed that up with equally good supporting turns in Sofia Coppola‘s Somewhere (yeah, she was barely in it, but still) and Duncan Jones‘ recent Source Code.
Her next role, which she’s just signed on to, will be a leading part in Fort Bliss, which seems to bear plenty of similarities — a somewhat worn-down premise, a still up-and-coming writer-director (Claudia Myers), and, this probably goes without saying, firmly indie roots — to the aforementioned Trucker. The material, though, however used up it may sound — Monaghan will play “a female soldier transferred home after...

Apparently Dr. Seuss won't be the only colorful character in Johnny Depp's upcoming biopic about the children's book author. Some of his beloved characters might be making an appearance in the film as well.
In an interview with Larry King, Depp said that the biographical movie will likely feature a combination of live action and animation.
"It's something we're developing with Seuss' widow, [Theodor] Geisel's widow," he said. "It's a very exciting possibility, because it's a combination of live-action and ... the characters will certainly have a role."

We got as always a filled up big couch of casting news from around tinsel town and some of these are names we haven’t heard in awhile such as Christopher Walken and Dustin Hoffman but even Keanu Reeves is a name you do not hear much anymore. Check out the news on all their latest projects below on today’s Casting Couch.
– Keanu Reeves has signed on as the male lead for Morgan Creek’s latest project, Passengers, to be directed by Italian auteur Gabriele Muccino. Dubbed as “Adam & Eve in Space.” The film also will have a couple of comedic roles and set designs will be created by some of the wizards who worked on Avatar. Set in the future, Passengers centers on Jim Preston (Reeves), a mechanic on a 120-year journey to a distant colonized planet in another galaxy, who becomes the first traveler to experience pod hibernation failure.

Who doesn't love Christopher Walken? No one! THR reports that Walken is currently negotiating to join the cast of the forthcoming action comedy Wild Oats directed by Scott Marshall. The cast includes Shirley MacLaine, Maria Bello, Christina Ricci, John Corbett and Bill Pullman in a story about a widow who finds herself heading to Las Vegas with her granddaughter after a pile of money falls in her lap. I'm guessing that whoever lost that money will actually go after them, hence the "action" part of this. Shooting is scheduled to begin in Connecticut and Nevada this August. The script for this was written by newcomer Claudia Myers. This doesn't sound bad, but it doesn't really sound interesting either. Although I love Walken and Pullman (just think of True Lies), this sounds like another one of those generic action comedies that will probably go under-the-radar until a trailer hits or it...

With a shrug and a twitch and a twinkle in his eye, Christopher Walken looks set to join the cast of the action comedy Wild Oats. He'll be joining Christina Ricci, Bill Pullman, Maria Bello, John Corbett and Shirley MacLaine. No details of who Walken will be playing yet, but we do know that the film stars MacLaine as a widow with some windfall cash, heading for Las Vegas with her granddaughter (Ricci) in tow.Wild Oats comes to us courtesy of noob team Claudia Myers (writing) and Scott Marshall (directing) so it's tough to call what kind of shape the film will ultimately take. Is this a generation spanning, female version of The Hangover? Or possibly a throwback to one of those large-cast caper films of yore, like Jerry Zucker tried with Rat Race? Action certainly isn't a genre one would associate with MacLaine (well, Shirley at least: John...
