Boxing fans have been waiting years to see Devin Haney face off against Vasiliy Lomachenko and, this Saturday, it’s finally happening.
In June, Haney became the first undisputed lightweight champion in the four-belt era when he beat George Kambosos Jr. via unanimous decision. The undefeated 24-year-old then successfully defended his title in a rematch with Kambosos in October, extending his undefeated record to 29-0.

We are just over a month away from the annual gathering of Toronto's 'cinemaniacs'. the Toronto After Dark Film Festival! It is almost hard to believe that the festival is already celebrating it's ten year anniversary and we at TwitchFilm have been there from the very start (earlier if you count the time that Tadff founder Adam Lopez sat down with Todd and myself at the Imperial Pub the year before at Tiff). The festival announced the first wave of ten films playing at this year's festival. So what can the horde of 'cinemaniacs' expect so far this year? Check it out below.Toronto After Dark Film Festival is thrilled to officially unveil its first wave of exciting film announcements for 2015! Included in the lineup are...

We are now about a week deep into Toronto After Dark 2013, and there are only two more nights left of the festival. As always, I’m starting to really miss my nice comfortable bed, and the thought of a homecooked meal is making me drool, but some of the festival’s most anticipated titles are still in store.
Last night, though, we got a double dose of serious crazy with the Toronto Premiere of Found, and the World Premiere of Evil Feed. The theater was packed for both screenings, and each movie brought it’s own brand of crazy to the audiences.
The night began with a short, Canadian made, film called Liebe (which translates to Love). The film tells the story of a couple who go on a picnic only to find that something is watching them and wants what they have. It ended up being one of the...

In keeping with the themed nights at this year’s festival, last night was Sci-Fi night at Toronto After Dark. I was looking forward to the films because I had heard a lot of buzz around them, and for the most part, they delivered.
I knew that the first screening of the night was going to be a busy one, because the passholders line and the ticket holders line were both jam-packed with people, and folks were standing in the Rush line as well. That means that the show was either sold out, or it was going to be close. In this case, it was the former, so it was a packed house when Festival Director Adam Lopez took the stage to say a few words. As always, his enthusiasm is contagious, and he not only got people excited about Last Days On Mars (which they were already there to...

Has it really been eight years? Wow. It feels like it was not too long ago Todd and I were sitting down in a local pub with festival director Adam Lopez as he described his dream of bringing a full-on genre festival to the city of Toronto. Seven zombie walks, one Summer-storm power outage, and temporary venue change later, the festival organizers are looking to once again gather Toronto's 'cinemaniacs' under the roof of the hallowed Bloor Hot Docs Cinema for nine nights of genre goodness from the festival circuit and around the world. Toronto After Dark announces Call for Horror, Sci-Fi, Action and Cult Film Entries!Toronto After Dark Film Festival has just announced its 8th Annual Call For Film Entries. Howdy folks, Jeff here with another update from up North at the Toronto After Dark 2012 Film Festival! Saturday was the third day of the festival, and as is customary, it was also Tadff’s “Zombie Appreciation Night.” Essentially, the festival programmers put two zombie-related films on the bill for the evening screenings, and they work with the Toronto Zombie Walk to integrate the two events, giving an admission discount to those dressed up as the undead.
First, however, was Tadff’s Shorts After Dark program, which showed during the afternoon and featured nine different shorts from all over the globe. Unlike the shorts that precede most of the feature screenings, these shorts are not solely Canadian-made. As with most short programs, you usually find a mixture of themes, and there are almost always a few that you love, and a few that you really don’t like. This year seemed to be pretty animation heavy.

The 2009 Toronto After Dark Film Festival was another resounding success in bringing us the most eclectic selection of genre film the world over. In its 4th year, Festival Director Adam Lopez and his team continue to surpass previous years line up, a feat that is hard to do. This year's program included the blaxploitation hit Black Dynamite , the futuristic steam punk feature Franklyn , the nazi zombie pleaser Dead Snow , Coffin Joe's return in Embodiment of Evil , Trick .R Treat (finally) and Grace as the closing gala. As always, Tadff also showcases an enormous amount of shorts that screen before the films and all afternoon on certain days. There was a nice mash up of international shorts and some homegrown Canadian goodies like crowd favorite Bad Roommate by...

It’s 2009 and I’m more than a little jazzed to be writing about the Toronto After Dark Film Festival….again. See, Tadff (running from August 14th to 21st at The Bloor Cinema) is a kind of local little engine that could, a collection of international weird cinema curated by Adam Lopez and his crack team of programmers that is now in its fourth year - no mean feat in Toronto seeing as there are over 100 film festivals in this city at any given time and most of them go tits up after their first year.
But Lopez and his merry band of movie minded miscreants are tireless crusaders for creepy, strange and subversive celluloid. Last year, the lads showcased Let The Right One In and Repo! The Genetc Opera, two films that meant a lot to me.
This year, their little one week of wonders positively explodes with a...

It’s been a bit of an odd experience working on the lineup for Toronto After Dark this year. Due to travel commitments and other factors this year there has not been a single all-staff meeting for the fest this year. Nary a one, and all of us involved have simply worked away on our own little areas while getting the occasional update from fest honcho Adam Lopez to let us know what was going on. The end result of this being that I hadnt actually seen the full lineup of films - and didn’t even know what was being pursued outside of my own block of five titles - until late last week. And let me tell you: It’s one damn good lineup. In fact I’m quite comfortable saying that this is - by a healthy margin - the best top-to-bottom lineup the festival has had in its entire history,...

The setting was perfect: it was just the second theatre showing ever of I Sell The Dead, it was the North American premiere, it was the final film of the best-ever third edition of the Toronto After Dark Film Fest, and in attendance were director/writer Glenn McQuaid, producer/actor Larry Fessenden, actor Angus Scrimm, actor Brenda Cooney, and producer Peter Phok. You could feel the buzz. And hardly miss Mr. Scrimm’s ultra-funky white glasses.
The movie? High-caliber comedy-horror, done vignette style, as Irish grave robber Arthur Blake (adroitly played by Dominic Monaghan) tells a series of macabre yet wacky tales to a really big priest, Father Duffy (delightfully played by Quiet Earth fave, Ron Perlman) as he awaits his beheading in five hours.
Arthur is the erstwhile partner of the recently-beheaded,...

Adam Lopez is the man.
Once, a long time ago, this infectiously enthusiastic Toronto based cinema buff came up to me and unspooled a spiel about his grand plan to start a homegrown horror and cult film festival. I nodded, amused by his fervor, but I admittedly didn't take him terribly seriously. But Adam did it. And the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, now in its 3rd spectacular year at my home city's legendary Bloor Cinema, is a terror-ific testament to his grandiose sick celluloid visions.
This go around is Tadff's biggest ever, spanning 8 days and spitting out 16 brand spanking new horror, sci-fi, action and exploitation movies that are guaranteed to shock your stinking socks clean off.
Highlights of the better than impressive list include:
Let The Right One In
Friday, October 17th, 7pm
A much hyped Swedish vampire bloodbath / coming of age melodrama that is as touching as it is brutal.

A note to anyone affiliated with a film festival that frequently employs the words scream, fear, horror, fright, dark, or creeeeepy: If you send me a press release, I'll throw you some blog-love. That's what happens when a childish genre nerd gets to work at a slick 'n' popular website like this one. Case in point: A very cool guy called Adam Lopez helps run an event called Toronto After Dark, and he asked if I wouldn't mind spreading the word on their upcoming slate. And since this is a small but reputable festival (and not to be confused with Tiff's own "Midnight Madness" line-up, which is like a mini-fest all by itself), I said "Sure, Adam!" And guess what? I'll do the same for La Screamfest, UK Frightfest, and New Zealand Gorefest -- even though I just made that last one up.

Awe yeah baby. Our good pal, and fellow film fanatic, Adam Lopez, aka. organizer of the world famous Toronto After Dark Film Fest (Tad to its friends), has just announced the first round of titles for this year's event. So far the titles represent a perfect mix of award wining international faves and outright over-the-top cult crazies; and I for one am loving it. First on the menu is Repo! The Genetic Opera, Darren Lynn Bousman's zany scifi horror musical hybrid. It might be the only film that stars Paris Hilton that I'd venture to see. Next on the line-up is everyone's favorite gorefest, Tokyo Gore Police. Then there's the celebrated, Tribeca winning Vampire flick Let the Right One In which Cyberhal reviewed and loved. Then they've got revenge thriller Red starring Brian Cox. Animation is also getting some love this year with Bill Plympton's amazing Idiots & Angels taking center stage.
