Fox Corporation has snagged the syndication rights to a forthcoming version of the National Football League’s (NFL) morning recap and discussion program, “Good Morning Football.”
This fall, Fox-owned television stations across the country will start airing the syndicated, two-hour version of Good Morning Football (Gmfb) from NFL Network, with the inaugural broadcast set for September 2.
The deal means the program will clear several major markets, including New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle, Milwaukee, Houston, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. In many areas where Fox owns the local broadcast station, the community is also served by a National Football Conference (NFC) team; two years ago, Fox extended its agreement with the NFL to continue broadcasting NFC games on Sunday afternoon through the 2032-33 season.

Fox’s local TV stations are about to get more NFL football.
The Fox-owned stations have picked up the syndicated version of Good Morning Football, the long-running NFL Network morning show. The show will run as a strip on Mondays-Fridays, with episodes featuring interviews and analysis of the week’s games.
Fox, of course, is the home of one of the NFL’s big Sunday afternoon packages.
The NFL announced the plans for the syndicated version of the show back in March, revealing that production for the show would move from New York to Los Angeles. The syndicated extension of the show will coexist with the NFL Network program, which will continue to run on the cable channel and on the NFL+ service.
Good Morning Football will return to NFL Network this summer, with the syndicated version set to debut on Sep. 2.

Suits, a long-running mainstay on cable’s USA Network that became a streaming phenomenon last year, will make its broadcast debut this fall on MyNetwork TV.
The show’s slot in Fox’s Monday-through-Friday syndicated programming block, which reaches 97% of U.S. TV homes, will mark the first time it will be available on free television. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
The legal drama, which premiered on USA Network in 2011, became a streaming phenomenon when it landed on Netflix and NBCUniversal’s Peacock in 2023. Even though the Netflix run was non-exclusive (the show’s full nine seasons can only be streamed on Peacock), it racked up viewing minutes in the tens of billions and broke a number of Nielsen records. The surge of interest led to NBCU and creator Aaron Korsh to plot out an entire Suits universe, with new iteration Suits: L.A. landing a pilot order last February.

Suits enjoyed a massive popularity surge several times over the years, and we have good news for those who want to continue to watch the series without a Netflix or Peacock subscription.

The series saw a renewed surge when it debuted to huge numbers on Netflix last year.
Now, more news about the show has been announced!

After setting streaming records for months on end last year, Suits is heading to a new — or rather, old — frontier: broadcast syndication.
The former USA Network series will make its over-the-air debut in the fall on the Fox-owned MyNetwork TV programming service. All nine seasons (134 episodes in total) will be available via the service, which covers about 97 percent of TV homes in the United States.
“It’s become increasingly more difficult, if not impossible, to launch obscure product on broadcast TV,” said Frank Cicha, executive vp programming for Fox Televsion Stations. “Suits is arguably the most buzzworthy scripted series of the last half decade, and MyNet looks forward to amplifying its success by introducing it to the broadcast television audience. We’re discussing some fun ways to do just that.”

Jennifer Hudson is staying put.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced Wednesday that its freshman entry, The Jennifer Hudson Show, would be back on Fox TV Stations for a season two next fall. Hearst Television, along with other station partners, also renewed the Telepictures-produced series. With the freshly-minted Egot as host, the syndicated show is said to be reaching, on average, 5.2 million weekly viewers — hardly Oprah ratings, but “absolutely deserving,” as Fox TV Stations exec Frank Cicha noted, of a second year.
“Working on this show alongside my incredible team and our amazing partners has been one of the greatest joys of my career. We have been on this journey together from day one and I am so thrilled to take it to the next level,” Hudson said in a statement. “I could not be more grateful to audiences across America for letting me into their homes everyday as we empower and inspire one another.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s “The Jennifer Hudson Show” will return for a second season on Fox television stations this fall, Mike Darnell, President of Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, announced on Wednesday.
“Jennifer is an incredible talent and can literally accomplish anything she sets her sights on. This show is second to none because of her and all of the talented producers and crew who work daily to make every single episode special. A Season 2 pick-up this early on proves that this show is here to stay,” said Darnell in a statement.
While he was effusive in his praise for the Egot winner, no one was more emotional than Hudson herself. In a video clip from Wednesday’s show, Hudson teared up as she told her studio audience, “Today is a major day of celebration.” She briefly burst into song, “We made it,” before announcing, “Y’all, we just got renewed...

Fox television stations has renewed the freshman talk show from comedian Sherri Shepherd, “Sherri,” through the 2024-25 season.
The decision behind the long-term extension from its anchor station group was based on the show’s first-season success. As it stands, “Sherri” is the No. 1 new nationally syndicated daytime talker from Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury.
“I am so thrilled that Sherri has been renewed for two more years,” said Shepherd. “I launched this show with the mission to give daytime viewers a ‘good time,’ just like my theme song says. Sherri Shepherd’s eponymous talk show will live on.
Fox Television Stations announced Wednesday that they’d be renewing Sherri for two more years, taking the series from Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury through the 2024-25 season.
Shepherd’s path to this place was hardly ordinary, with the actress, comedian, and former View co-host initially asked to step in as a temporary fill-in during predecessor Wendy Williams’ prolonged absence. Proving an instant hit with the daytime audience, Shepherd kept being invited back — until it became clear that Williams would not be returning to her long-running show, and Shepherd was formally tapped to succeed her.
Shepherd’s iteration, retitled Sherri, launched earlier this fall, and quickly became an asset for its distributor. In fact, Sherri is being trumpeted as the No. 1 new nationally syndicated daytime talk show.

It was fall 2021, and Wendy Williams, the host of her own eponymous talk show, had not been in her famous purple chair for weeks. According to multiple sources, she was in and out of hospitals as medical professionals tried to figure out what, exactly, was causing symptoms like nonlinear speech, memory loss and even hallucinations. Meanwhile, the producers of her 10 a.m. TV show, which was entering its 13th season, had delayed as long as they could, and now they were relying on a string of guest hosts. Shepherd was tapped to fill in on week three, though she’d be brought back for several more.

Jennifer Hudson is coming to daytime this fall with the launch of “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on Fox Television Stations.
While the new one-hour talker is not technically Warner Bros. TV’s replacement for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which is coming to an end this year, Hudson’s show is positioned to be the studio’s new flagship daytime talk show once DeGeneres has said her final goodbye after a 19-season run.
As Variety first reported in November, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” also comes from “Ellen” production company Telepictures. “Ellen” executive producers Andy Lassner and Mary Connelly served as showrunners on Hudson’s test show, which was shot last fall on DeGeneres’ stage. The show has been shopped around to station groups since, with Fox TV Stations emerging as the winner.

It’s official — a daytime syndicated talk show hosted by Sherri Shepherd will succeed The Wendy Williams Show.
Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury, the producer-distributor of The Wendy Williams Show, is behind Sherri, which will make a syndication debut on the Fox Television Stations and broadcasters nationwide in fall 2022 and will inherit the Fox O&o time slots of Wendy.

Sherri Shepherd will launch her own daytime talk show in fall 2022, Variety has learned.
The new syndicated series, titled “Sherri,” will slide into the Fox O&o time slots that are currently held by “The Wendy Williams Show,” as the hit gossip queen, Wendy Williams, continues to be in recovery for health-related issues.
“Sherri” hails from Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury, the same company behind “Wendy Williams.” Many production staffers from Williams’ talk show, including her executive producer, will move over to Shepherd’s show in the fall.
Currently, “The Wendy Williams Show” is still in production and airing live shows with rotating guest hosts — including Shepherd, who has been a fan-favorite and highly-rated guest host throughout this season. After a successful test run last summer, Pictionary, a syndicated series based on Mattel’s party game, will get a full season on Fox Television Stations starting in fall 2022.
Jerry O’Connell is the host of the 30-minute show, which largely follows the rules of the game, which first went on sale in 1985. Two teams of three players apiece will each include one celebrity captain. A new iteration of the game show will air on some local Fox stations next month with the possibility of a bigger run if the series does well. Jerry O'Connell will handle hosting duties. This is not the first time the actor has hosted during daytime hours as he had a talk show, Jerry O, in 2019.
Per Deadline, O'Connell said the following about hosting the new series:
“Ever since my failed drawing of a koala bear, lost my mom and me our household Pictionary crown, I’ve wanted to prove myself on the Pictionary stage. I’m so happy to be working with this team from Fox and CBS. Sharpen your pencils, it’s going to be a fun summer.”

In what is perhaps television’s most Covid-19-proof schedule for 2020-21, Fox’s MyNetworkTV is welcoming back an array of off-net staples and adding even more Dateline and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
Unlike its corporate siblings at the Fox broadcast network, which is contending with coronavirus on the live sports and prime-time fronts, MyNetworkTV has long been rooted in oft-syndicated fare. Seven of its 10 prime-time hours a week are derived from uber-producer Dick Wolf, himself a rock of stability in an otherwise fragmenting broadcast landscape. (See the full schedule below.)
Wolf’s Law & Order progeny Special Victims Unit and Criminal Intent are returning, with Ci adding an extra hour for a total of three. Dateline will also air three hours a week, up from two last year. Chicago P.D. rounds out the roster. CSI: Miami, which was part of last year’s lineup, has left the fold.

The 57th annual Natpe conference — the 10th edition held in Miami — will unfold January 21 to 23 with the syndication business experiencing an upswing.
While ratings are not what they used to be, renewals of major 2019 talk debuts for Kelly Clarkson and Tamron Hall have restored confidence in the sector’s core business model. Newcomers like Drew Barrymore and Nick Cannon are leading a new wave of hopefuls, giving a new shot of energy to Natpe, which some had given up for dead a decade ago. The hangover from expensive wipeouts by Harry Connick Jr., Katie Couric and Arsenio Hall is finally receding.
“After several years of drought, the river is flowing again for syndicators,” Hearst Svp of programming Emerson Coleman told Deadline. “Recently, we would walk the show floor and there wasn’t anything to buy, but this will be a more transactional year at the conference for stations.”

Fox Television Stations has ordered the weekly entertainment news magazine “Central Ave,” which hails from prolific film and TV producer Will Packer and Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury.
Debmar-Mercury and Will Packer Media will produce two half-hour shows per week of “Central Ave,” which tackles pop culture and other topics from a “socially conscious and diverse lens,” per Debmar. The show is hosted by former Bet personality Julissa Bermudez and Olympic track star Sanya Richards-Ross.
“Central Ave” had a test run in November as a half-hour strip. The partners liked what they saw enough to try for a national launch in a weekly format starting in September.
“With our consensus being shows like this rarely come along, and with an unusually crowded weekday market this fall, we looked toward the weekends,” said Debmar chiefs Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus. “We believe ‘Central Ave’ has a good chance to thrive airing in strong...

Fox Corp.’s TV station division is bringing back Central Ave, a show from Debmar-Mercury and Will Packer, the film and TV producer known for hits like Girls Trip, saying it fared well in a test last November.
The Atlanta-based show aims to deliver entertainment and pop culture news through a provocative, socially conscious and diverse lens. Beginning in September, it will air weekly, with two half-hour episodes that stations will be able to air together as a full hour on the weekends. The test run positioned Central Ave as a weekday strip, but the new plan is to give it more room to stand out on the weekend.
The announcement came on the eve of Natpe in Miami, which runs January 21 to 23.
“We knew from the minute Central Ave debuted that it is a winner and our partners at Fox agreed,” Debmar-Mercury Co-Presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus said.

RuPaul’s eponymous daytime talk show is not moving forward after last summer’s three-week trial run, a source familiar with the matter tells Variety.
“RuPaul,” which mixed celebrity and newsmaker interviews and focused on empowering and aspirational messaging, was produced by World of Wonder and Telepictures, and distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. “The Oprah Winfrey Show’s” Jill Van Lokeren and World of Wonder’s Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato and Tom Campbell executive produced the show, which aired in select Fox markets starting on June 10 of last year.
Fox’s station group has in recent years used the summer broadcast period as a time to test various series concepts.
“Part of the appeal of doing limited series is the freedom it allows to try something really different. That’s this show,” Frank Cicha, executive vice president of programming for Fox Television Stations, told Variety last April.

Frank Cicha, head of programming for Fox Television Stations, saw the future coming nearly a decade ago when Fox’s TV station group committed many millions to land syndication rights to “The Big Bang Theory” back in 2010.
Even then, it was clear that big hits on the scale of “Big Bang” were going to be few and far between. Cicha could sense that local TV stations would be outbid in a big way by cable networks for top primetime series. His theory was only reinforced a few years later when Netflix and other streaming platforms started vying for hot off-network properties.
On the latest episode of Variety podcast “Strictly Business,” Cicha outlines the strategy that Fox Television Stations has pursued in recent years to increase the volume of original daytime programming developed for the station group. Nick Cannon has cleared the runway for the launch of a daytime talk show next year now that the show from Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury has been picked up in crucial major markets by Fox Television Stations.

Other shows produced by Law & Order maven Dick Wolf are in the MyNetworkTV mix, including Law & Order: Ci, and Chicago P.D. Another well-established title in the Monday-to-Friday lineup is Dateline, which runs back-to-back episodes each Wednesday night.
Also running in back-to-back episodes, Svu will air on Mondays, with Law & Order: Ci shifting to Thursday evenings.
MyNetworkTV, which targets adults 18 to 49, started off in 2006 with original soaps before switching to lower-cost off-network programming. It is cleared across 181 markets representing over 97% of the country. Control of the service went with Fox Corp. when the Disney-Fox deal closed in March and saw significant TV assets migrate to Disney.
Frank Cicha, Evp of Programming for Fox Television Stations, announced the schedule, which kicks off September 23.

After some lean times in recent years, the first- run syndication market is poised for a revival in 2019. In terms of both quantity of shows — six new daytime strips will launch in fall 2019 — and the talent attached (Kelly Clarkson, Tamron Hall and Jerry Springer, among others), syndication is as robust as it's been since the post-Oprah rush of 2012.
"Any time there are more choices, that's a good thing," says Frank Cicha, executive vp programming for Fox Television Stations. "The last couple of years things may have felt a bit down,...

RuPaul Charles’ daily syndicated talk show has been picked up by Fox Television Stations for a three-week test run this summer.
Titled RuPaul, the project, produced by Telepictures, was one of the high profile new syndicated hopefuls for a fall 2019 launch. In a crowded space where most major station groups went for shows from their vertically integrated companies, it was tough for RuPaul, which comes from independent studio Warner Bros., to land a spot.
But Fox Television Stations, which has been open to programs from outside studios and has been ramping up its limited-run pickups as the group is embarking on life as a key part of the slimmed-down post-merger Fox, had been interested and, after months of conversations, the station group closed a deal for RuPaul.
The talker will premiere June 10 and will air Monday through Friday on select Fox TV stations, including Wnyw in New York and Kttv in Los Angeles.

Exclusive: As the $71.3 billion Disney-Fox deal nears the finish line, there is a steady earner that often gets overlooked among the assets that will remain behind as part of Fox Corp.: MyNetworkTV.
The programming service, launched with fanfare in 2006 as a bid to counter the emerging CW, had to regroup not long after its debut. Its ambitious slate of English-language telenovelas failed to gain traction, the economy was souring, and MyNetworkTV stations were anxious about the trajectory of their advertising revenue as the country entered a financial crisis.
Rather than abandoning the effort, the company’s then-president, Greg Meidel (who has since become president of corporate sibling Twentieth Television) announced a pivot away from a full-blown network approach and toward a tighter programming focus. Over the decade since the 2009 switch — which reduced the MyNet schedule to two hours a night from Monday to Friday and a steady...
