He is serving a life sentence after being convicted in 2011 for sexually assaulting his child brides. Another high-ranking polygamist spoken about is Sam Bateman, who splintered off from Jeffs as the self-proclaimed new prophet. The Brown family became the poster children of polygamy after Sister Wives premiered in 2010. The family tried to convince the world that not all fundamentalist Mormon sects have child brides like Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Flds) leader Warren Jeffs.
Kody and his wives adamantly denied their church allows practices of underage marriage, child abuse, and incest. However, Christine Brown’s grandfather and Apostolic United Brethren (Aub) leader had many child brides.

Audiences have watched the Brown family on Sister Wives for 13 years since its debut in 2010. In the beginning, the Brown family’s mission was to show the world that polygamy is not harmful and that it’s beneficial to families.

Warning: contains spoilers for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 episode 5.
With its backdrop moved from the oppressive Gilead to the comparatively liberal borders of Canada, The Handmaid’s Tale’s fifth season has used these broader horizons to depict a world that, paradoxically, feels more claustrophobic than ever. Though ostensibly free as of Season 4, June’s world seems to be getting smaller and smaller. Her enemy Serena Waterford has set up shop nearby, new followers of Gilead’s regime have made themselves known, and anti-refugee protests are happening on the streets of Toronto.
Nowhere is the system that now traps June more evident than with her estranged daughter Hannah. Quite literally wrenched from June’s arms in the first season, Hannah is now apparently brainwashed and a pupil at one of Gilead’s “Wife schools” at only twelve years of age. In episode 5 ‘Fairytale’, June and Luke’s horror at what has...

Netflix's "Db Cooper: Where Are You?" is a deep dive into one of the most legendary unsolved cases in history. The four-part docuseries, which premieres later this summer, will examine the decades-old case of Db Cooper, an unidentified man who hijacked an airplane flying between Portland and Seattle in 1971. After escaping with 200,000, valued at nearly 1.4 million today, Cooper leapt from the plane and vanished without a trace. Over the past 50 years, investigators and crime specialists have worked to piece together Cooper's identity - to no avail.
Theories suggest that Cooper could have been a Boeing employee, a skilled paratrooper, or even a notable serial killer. In 2016, the FBI officially suspended the active Cooper investigation and released evidence from the plane, including a clip-on tie, a mother-of-pearl tie clip, and eight cigarette butts, sparking even more theories about the skyjacker's identity.

“How could you place a human over God?”
Such is the reasoning for enduring the generational abuse at the hands of self-professed prophet Warren Jeffs, who led a secretive polygamous sect of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Flds). Netflix’s true crime docuseries “Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey,” streaming June 8, analyzes the radical arm of the Mormon Church of the Latter-Day Saints, with Jeff at the helm of an abusive polygamist child-marrying branch.
Jeff accumulated 78 wives — 24 of which were underage girls — over the course of his religious dictatorship. “Keep Sweet” interviews survivors and former wives of Jeff, including one woman who wed him at age 14.
“Young girls were like a commodity owned by the church,” a commentator says in the trailer.
Another adds, “The more the wives, the more children you have, the higher in heaven you will be.”

Netflix will dig into West Texas’ infamous Yearning for Zion Ranch and polygamist cult leader Warren Jeffs in the upcoming docuseries Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey.
In 2008, federal authorities raided the ranch, where Jeffs — as head and self-proclaimed prophet of the secretive sect of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints — amassed 78 wives, 24 of whom were underage. Over 400 children were also taken into custody, with law enforcement agents finding evidence of sexual, physical, and psychological abuse.

Former Discovery commissioner and co-founder of Say Yes To The Dress producer Half-Yard Productions Abby Greensfelder is on a mission to create more female-led stories in the non-scripted space.
Greensfelder set up Everywoman Studios after she left Red Arrow-owned Half-Yard and is now in the middle of putting together a slate of projects, including a soccer doc for HBO Max, a cooking series featuring immigrant grandmothers and a cult doc series from Eva Orner.
“My plan is to create stories by and about women, especially in spaces where we don’t typically see women in content,” she told Deadline. “I programmed Discovery, which was a male skewing channel, and there were all of these spaces such as sports, the outdoors, science, exploration, space and none of them had any women in these shows. All these years later, I wanted to find stories that appealed to everyone, they’re very...

The season finale of Magnum P.I. on CBS beat ABC’s Shark Tank for top honors in the Friday early ratings. Although both sported an 0.7, Magnum P.I. had a larger P2+ audience, topping out at 6685 to Shark Tank’s 4557.
Magnum P.I. aired back-to-back episodes for its season finale (it was recently renewed for a third season). Guest appearances from Hawaii Five-0’s Ian Anthony Dale and Kimee Bamilero, Corbin Bernsen, and the Mma’s Cowboy Cerrone helped goose interest in the 9 Pm and 10 Pm slots.
Earlier, the season finale for MacGyver came in with a solid 0.6. The show, which had its season truncated by the pandemic, which halted production, will be back for a fifth season.
In the overall network race, it was a three-way tie between NBC, CBS and ABC.

Updated with video: John Oliver savaged Jay Leno’s call for more civility in late-night TV on Last Week Tonight.
Last week, Leno stopped by NBC’s Today show and said he did not miss hosting a late-night show because “everything now is, if people don’t like your politics… everyone has to know your politics…But when people see you are one-sided, it just makes it tough.”
“I’d just like to see a bit of civility come back to it, you know?” Leno added.
During a segment on public shaming, Oliver said Monica Lewinsky had been put through “hell” after her Oval Office sex encounters with then President Bill Clinton.
Among the things she endured: endless late-night TV jokes, Oliver said. The most relentless: Jay Leno.
Oliver treated viewers to some from the Tonight show library:

Paid advertisements for “Tucker Carlson Tonight” have dropped to 39 percent of what it was before liberal group Media Matters for America unearthed old recordings in which Carlson made disparaging comments about women and minorities, a new analysis shows.
According to data company Samba TV, the show went from 36 advertisers on the Monday before the release of the tapes to 14 advertisers the day after.
Carlson remains the most-watched show at 8 p.m. in all of cable. But more than 30 advertisers have pulled their ads since December, when Carlson said that “an endless chain of migrant caravans” was making “our own country poorer, and dirtier, and more divided.” Media Matters has called on people to boycott businesses that advertise on the show.

Just hours after Tucker Carlson defended a series of sexist and offensive comments that recently resurfaced from the 2000s, Stephen Colbert had some harsh words for the Fox News host.
First, some context: As reported by Media Matters, Carlson called into the Bubba the Love Sponge shock jock radio program between 2006 and 2011 with disparaging remarks about women. In addition to calling them “extremely primitive,” he also made demeaning comments about specific famous women, including Arianna Huffington, Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

Although Tucker Carlson dismissed criticism of defending statutory rape in tapes unearthed by Media Matter, saying his incendiary comments were made “more than a decade ago,” Monday, The Daily Beast resurfaced a video interview showing the Fox News host making similar arguments as recently as 2015.
“I’m for treating women differently from the way we treat men,” Carlson told Gavin McInnes, founder of the Proud Boys, during a podcast interview. “I’m not for playing along at all.”
Carlson argued that there was a difference between statutory rapes committed by men and those committed by women.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson has responded to the controversy that erupted after he was heard on old audio clips unearthed Sunday, calling women “extremely primitive” beings.
According to liberal media watchdog group Media Matters for America, Carlson made those and other sexist comments multiple times when he called in to shock jock radio program Bubba the Love Sponge.
“Between 2006 and 2011, Tucker Carlson spent approximately an hour a week calling in to Bubba the Love Sponge, a popular shock jock radio program where he spoke with the hosts about a variety of cultural and political topics in sometimes-vulgar terms,” Media Matters said in an article on its website.
The group also said he defended polygamist cult leader Warren Jeffs.

Tucker Carlson responded Sunday night to the discovery of controversial and off-color comments he made during conversations with a radio “shock jock” between 2006 and 2011, urging people who wanted to know more about what he thought to watch his primetime program on Fox News Channel.
Media Matters for America, a liberal advocacy group, posted excerpts from various broadcasts by Bubba the Love Sponge, a popular radio host whose real name is Todd Alan Clem. During various shows, Carlson made negative, often misogynistic remarks about some celebrities and appeared to defend Warren Jeffs, the religious leader who had been placed on the FBI’s most-wanted fugitive list on charges he had arranged marriages between his adult male followers and underage girls
“Media Matters caught me saying something naughty on a radio show more than a decade ago. Rather than express the usual ritual contrition, how about this: I’m on television every weeknight live for an hour.

Tucked in the remote Black Hills of South Dakota lies a 140-acre “military-style” fortress surrounded by a barbed wire fence, shielded by pine trees and guarded 24/7 by a lookout tower. Katherine Heigl has signed on to star in the big-screen adaptation of Carolyn Jessop’s memoir “Escape,” according to Variety.
In her book, Jessop recounts her childhood in the polygamist sect of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints. At the age of 18, she was forced into a marriage with a 50-year-old man; at age 35, she fled with her eight children.
Jessop is also known for testifying against polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs.
Heigl rose to fame after starring opposite Seth Rogen in Judd Apatow’s “Knocked Up.” She recently starred in Anne Fletcher’s romantic comedy “27 Dresses” and will next be seen in Robert Luketic’s “The Ugly Truth.”
I have to admit I always look forward to seeing Katherine Heigl on the screen. There’s just something about her that makes her an utterly likeable actress. She even managed to pull off a charming performance in the weak “27 Dresses.
