Dakota Fanning’s Marge Sherwood describes Tom Ripley as an untrustworthy liar who takes advantage of people in the official trailer for Netflix’s Ripley. The limited series stars All of Us Strangers‘ Andrew Scott in the titular role and is based on Patricia Highsmith’s popular Tom Ripley novels.
“Tom Ripley (Scott), a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York, is hired by a wealthy man to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son to return home,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. “Tom’s acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud, and murder.”
In addition to Scott and Fanning, the series stars Johnny Flynn (Lovesick) as Dickie Greenleaf, Eliot Sumner (Pretty Red Dress), Maurizio Lombardi (Monterossi), Margherita Buy (Mia Madre), and two-time Oscar nominee John Malkovich. Oscar winner Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List) wrote, directed, and executive produced the limited series.

Brutal and violent, Mike Hammer is a no-holds-barred private investigator created by Mickey Spillane and featured in novels, movies, TV shows, comics, and more. Mike Hammer is set to return to the big screen as Skydance has acquired the rights to the franchise and is planning to develop a movie based on the iconic character.
No writers, directors, or actors attached to the new Mike Hammer movie at this time, which is hardly a surprise given the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes. The rights to the character have been in dispute for quite some time. Mickey Spillane died in 2006, just one month after the death of his manager. The manager’s estate tried to claim ownership of Mike Hammer, but following years in court, those rights reverted to Spillane’s estate.
Starting with the novel I, the Jury, Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer novels have sold over 250 million copies worldwide.

In the type of trade you’d expect see in the NFL, Netflix and Showtime performed an unexpected show swap this Friday. Netflix’s “Uncoupled” has been picked up from cancellation by Showtime and will return for Season 2 at the channel, while Showtime’s unaired “Ripley” will now premiere on Netflix.

Showtime’s highly anticipated drama “Ripley,” starring Andrew Scott (“Fleabag”), is finalizing a move to Netflix, TheWrap has learned. The nearly closed deal follows the reveal that another original from the premium network-streamer, the Shailene Woodley-starring “Three Women,” is being eyed at Starz.
“Ripley,” which was given an eight-episode series order back in September 2019, is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s bestselling series of novels. The first of the quintet, published in 1955, was adapted into the Anthony Minghella-helmed 1999 film “The Talented Mr. Ripley” starring Matt Damon and Jude Law.

A long-gestating Showtime series based on Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley novels will no longer air on Showtime.
The drama, titled Ripley and starring Andrew Scott as the title character, is instead set to land at Netflix, pending details of a deal being finalized. The change comes as Showtime is set to merge with Paramount+ and will refocus on building out franchises of its most successful series, including Billions and Dexter.
Reps for Showtime and Netflix declined to comment.

According to an invidividual with knowledge of the situation, the deal to move the series is not yet closed but is expected to soon. Post-production is said to have recently begun on the eight-episode series.
This marks the latest example of Showtime offloading a series they had previously ordered after it had completed production. Most recently, the network let go of its series adaptation of the Lisa Taddeo novel “Three Women,” which is in the process of moving to Starz.

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas Navigate Sex, Infidelity and Murder in New ‘Deep Water’ Trailer (Video)
The official trailer for the new psychological thriller “Deep Water” has arrived, in which Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas play a married couple with some serious troubles.
The 20th Century Studios film is based on the novel of the same name by Patricia Highsmith and hails from “Indecent Proposal,” “Fatal Attraction” and “9 1/2 Weeks” director Adrian Lyne. Affleck plays Vic, a husband who is becoming increasingly perturbed by his wife’s open philandering, while de Armas plays Vic’s flirtatious and cunning wife Melinda. Things take a bloody turn at a party when a body turns up in the pool.
The film boasts a screenplay by Zach Helm (“Stranger Than Fiction”) and “Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson.
“Deep Water” was a bit in limbo after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, as the film was shot back in 2019 and its seriously R-rated nature is not exactly befitting a streaming service like Disney+.

Patricia Highsmith's literary creation Tom Ripley has been featured in five books, and five subsequent movies. Everyone has seen 1999's "The Talented Mr. Ripley," everyone should see 1960's "Purple Noon," while the other films are perhaps less well remembered. Indeed, a decade has passed since Barry Pepper took the title role in "Ripley Under Ground" for Roger Spottiswoode. But the character is coming back to life, in a whole other medium. Read More: 5 Things We Learned From Criterion's Stunning Bly-Ray Of Renee Clement's 'Purple Noon' Starring Alain Delon THR reports that Highsmith's Tom Ripley is headed to TV. The plan by producers Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, and Philipp Keel is to "expand" on both "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and "Purple Noon," though what that exactly means isn't clear, except that this developing take will probably focus on the younger years of the con artist and killer.

With Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar already on her slate, along with the independent movie Song One, things are definitely looking good for Anne Hathaway following her Oscar-winning performance in Les Misérables. And now the actress is set to earn her second credit as a producer, boarding the adaptation of the historical novel, The Lifeboat.
THR report that Hathaway is attached to both produce and star in the adaptation of Charlotte Rogan’s debut novel, the rights for which have been jointly acquired by Working Title and Focus Features.
Courtesy of Amazon, here’s the synopsis for Rogan’s original novel:
Grace Winter, 22, is both a newlywed and a widow. She is also on trial for her life.
In the summer of 1914, the elegant ocean liner carrying Grace and her husband Henry across the Atlantic suffers a mysterious explosion. Setting aside his own safety, Henry secures Grace a place in a lifeboat,...

Anne Hathaway, who scooped up her very first Oscar earlier this year for her jaw-dropping performance in "Les Miserables," has just signed on to star in and produce an adaptation of Charlotte Rogan's debut novel, "The Lifeboat."
The book follows Grace Winter, a woman described as "both a newlywed and a widow" standing trial for murder in 1914. As part of her trial, Grace recounts the fateful events that befell her following the sinking of the transatlantic ship The Empress.
Working Title and Focus Features jointly secured the rights to the novel, and William Broyles Jr., who wrote "Castaway" and "Apollo 13," has been tasked with scripting duties. At this point there's no director attached, but Hathaway will be producing alongside Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Liza Chasin of Working Title, as well as Suzan Bymel and Ben Forkner of Film 360. Broyles will executive produce.

Back in 2010, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo director Niels Arden Oplev had reportedly signed on to direct Tobey Maguire in Good People, an adaptation of Marcus Sakey‘s thriller novel.
However, now comes word that Danish director Henrik Genz (Terribly Happy) will direct the film based on an adaptation of the book by Kelly Masterson (Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead) with James Franco as the front-runner to star.
The project was mistaken in an earlier report on Wednesday by The Wrap for an adaptation of the Broadway play ‘Good People’, by David Lindsay-Abaire.
Based on Marcus Sakey’s third book, this Good People follows a Chicago couple that comes across $400,000 and do whatever they can to try and keep it.
Tobey Maguire will serve as producer along with Ben Forkner, Matthew Plouffe, Thomas Gammeltoft, Mark Gill, and Ed Cathell. No word if Maguire’s set to co-star.

Warner Bros. Pictures, Film 360 and Thunder Road have acquired the film rights to the Mickey Spillane mystery novel series featuring his iconic private investigator character Mike Hammer reports Deadline.
Starting with 1947's "I, The Jury", Hammer was a prototype for the hardboiled tough guy private eye, a physical solitary man who had no qualms killing those who escaped justice.
The studio hopes to resurrect the character and build a potential action franchise. Right now though it's undecided which book to adapt first, and whether to keep the books period or update it to a more contemporary setting.
The nineteen Hammer books have sold 225 million copies globally and several have been adapted for the screen, most notably Robert Aldrich's 1955 noir "Kiss Me Deadly".
Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Basil Iwanyk and Ken Levin will produce.

Marc Forster ("Quantum of Solace," "Monster's Ball") is set to helm a film adaptation of Aj Lieberman's graphic novel "Cowboy Ninja Viking" for Universal Pictures reports Deadline.
"Zombieland" writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese penned a script adaptation for Disney which the Mouse house deemed 'too edgy'. Universal has now acquired that script and hopes it will be a potential franchise launcher for them.
The story deals with a secret government program to turn schizophrenics into assassins with our protagonist scoring the skill sets of a cowboy, a ninja and a viking.
When the program went awry in Iraq, he escapes and uses his skills to track down the billionaire who masterminded the program.
Shooting kicks off later this year once Forster completes his work on the Brad Pitt-led "World War Z" at Paramount and Skydance. Wernick, Reese, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Mark Gordon and Bryan Zuriff will produce.
