Is Richard Hayes going to be the Joe the Plumber of the 2012 presidential election? If you'll remember, Joe the Plumber was the conservative activist who was videotaped asking then-candidate Barack Obama about his small business tax policy at a campaign stop and went on to represent middle class America as candidate John McCain railed against Obama's "socialist" views.
In a new ad created by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO, Hayes says:
My name is Richard Hayes and I pick up Mitt Romney's trash. We call it 'the invisible people.' He doesn't realize, you know, that the service we provide, you know, if i wasn't for us it would be a big health issue, us not picking up trash.
Residents do come out and shake our hands, sometimes they give us hugs and thank us for the job we're doing, hand us waters and Gatorades.

The newest media star for the president’s reelection campaign might be Mitt Romney’s garbage man. The man who says he picks up the Gop candidate’s trash is named Richard Hayes, and he stars in an attack ad that accuses Romney of not caring about hard-working, “invisible” Americans. The commercial is one of several from the America Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, a labor union that supports President Barack Obama and is critical of Romney’s “47 percent” comment (see video of Romney’s remarks at a private fundraiser below). The uncle Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher helped put behind bars for molesting two girls has died in prison.
The actress, 44, helped police convict pervert Richard Hayes Stone after coming forward with her own harrowing recollections of her uncle.
Hatcher told the authorities she had been subjected to Stone's sexual advances between the ages of five and seven.
It was Hatcher's statement to California investigators that gave them the ammunition they needed to put Stone behind bars for 14 years.
One of his victims was so traumatised by her contact with Stone, she committed suicide.
In 2006, Hatcher went public with her molestation nightmare, telling Vanity Fair magazine, "I was blown over by this pain. I kept thinking, 'What do I do with this information I have that no one else has?'
"(I decided) it's time for me to stop hiding. I don't want to pretend it never happened anymore."
Stone died from colon cancer at the age of 70 last year, but the news of his passing has only come to light this week (begs14Sep09).
And knowing Stone can no longer harm anyone else has helped the actress close the painful chapter in her life.
A source tells the National Enquirer, "For Teri, it's the end of a nightmare that has haunted her since she was five years old.
"It must be a huge relief to her to know this man will never walk the streets again and hurt other little girls like she was hurt."...
