It's been seven years since director Matt Reeves concluded Caesar's story with 2017's "War for the Planet of the Apes." But that movie wasn't the definitive ending for the long-running sci-fi franchise by any means. Now, the apes are finally back on the big screen in director Wes Ball's "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes." Featuring a new cast in a new timeline years removed from the previous trilogy, this is a new start for the series. So, are moviegoers going to have to stick around during the credits to see what the future holds?
Credits scenes are a staple of franchise filmmaking in the modern era. Given that Disney is now in control of "Planet of the Apes," it doesn't feel out of character for there to be a tease of something else to come down the line. For those headed to a theater to see "Kingdom,...

Welcome to this review of Nxt: Stand and Deliver, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into the review and see what happened this week on Nxt pay-per-view (Ple) which takes place as part of the WWE’s massive Wrestlemania weekend…
Match #1: Joe Gacy def. Shawn Spears The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Making his first Nxt Ple appearance in more than seven years, Shawn Spears battled Joe Gacy on the Countdown to Nxt Stand & Deliver. Before Gacy could make it to the ring, Ridge Holland, who had provided analysis on the Countdown show, cracked Gacy in the back with a steel chair. Spears used Holland’s attack to his advantage, continuing to attack Gacy’s damaged back with repeated back suplexes on top of the ring apron. Gacy somehow kept fighting, hitting a wicked uranage that nearly spelled the end for Spears. After an intense back-and-forth battle,...

If there’s one thing apes are afraid of besides drowning, it’s George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa. To avoid conflict at the box office during Memorial Day weekend, 20th Century Studios‘ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is moving to May 10 to avoid Furiosa’s wrath. The new date pushes Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes up by two weeks, giving the Wes Ball-directed action film time to earn more bananas at the box office before Furiosa inevitably leaves other releases in the dust.
The new date finds Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes competing with Focus Features’ Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black, Sony’s horror comedy Horrorscope, and an untitled release from Angel Pictures. It’s also worth mentioning that Mark Lindal’s The Garfield Movie, starring Chris Pratt as the voice of the Monday-hating, lasagna-eating orange Persian tabby...

This is part of a series of frank accounts of the strike from Hollywood writers at different levels in their careers.
Day 110 and the karaoke’s still going strong — so is trivia and celebrity-spotting. The TMZ bus swings by Paramount like clockwork now, with even the tourists cheering in solidarity. Also, food trucks. Lots of food trucks. Infinite thanks to Dean’s coffee for all that iced java, every day.
If anything, Friday hit a high note when Latin Hollywood flexed its muscle, swamping Warner Bros. in a Tacos 1986-fueled block party. Mr. Stand and Deliver himself, Edward James Olmos, was there, invoking the spirits of Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta to keep the fires burning. Not even a hurri-quake will keep this labor action down. Although, thankfully, we got Monday off to recover from all the frantic texting to Florida friends about how to use a sandbag properly.
The point is,...

Published in 1974, it was just two years before Brian De Palma brought Stephen King’s Carrie to the big screen, the very first adaptation of a King tale. Needless to say, the movie was a total game-changer in the world of Stephen King and horror at large, paving the way for countless other King adaptations that have never really slowed down in the decades since.
In this exclusive clip from the upcoming documentary King on Screen, masters of horror including Mick Garris and Frank Darabont spotlight the importance of Carrie to King’s career.
“It all started with Carrie,” Mick Garris explains in the clip. “The book was not well known until De Palma’s movie came out. And the movie blew me away. It was so great.”
Frank Darabont adds, “It was the movie that really brought a lot of attention to Steve’s work.”

Channeling David Fincher: How ‘House of Cards’ Created a ‘Hyper’ Look For Its Most Ambitious Episode
Television shows establish the foundation of their look and visual language with their pilot episode. This is especially true for “House of Cards,” in which one of Hollywood’s most distinct visual storytellers, David Fincher, served as both executive producer and the director of the first two episodes. From its precise and dramatic compositions to its monochromatic color palette to the often dark, low source light photography, “House of Cards” embodies some of the most recognizable elements of Fincher’s style.

Which is precisely why cinematographer David M. Dunlap faced a challenge when the show’s forty-fifth episode called for something very different. Warning: Spoilers below for the listed shows.
“11.22.63”
The Clothespin
Time-jumping Jake (James Franco) may have been a man of the modern world, but even he was not ready to hear about Sadie’s (Sarah Gadon) wedding day deflowering by her ex-husband Johnny (T.R. Knight) that involved him having a clothespin clipped down between his legs and raping her. Wait, what? While we put a pin in that moment (aka, hit pause) so we could frantically Google “clothespin penis,” it dawned on us just how twisted Johnny actually was and how it was just a taste of the sadism to come. (Hanh Nguyen)
“The Americans”
“The Americans” Says Goodbye to Two Favorites
“The Americans” is always shocking when you least expect it, and never was that better exemplified than in Season 4 — first when Nina’s luck finally ran out in Episode 4, and soon after when we said goodbye to Martha in...

A little person, a gay Republican, and not one but two men obsessed with Tarzan are among the 18 new contestants vying for a million dollars when Survivor: One World premieres Feb. 15 on CBS. It is a season filled not only with entirely new contestants, but several format changes as well.
The biggest change will be that both tribes will live together at the same camp. The show experimented with this format briefly during a fake merge on Survivor: Thailand (and also had 20 contestants live together at the start of Survivor: Palau before splitting them into two tribes) but this will...

Here comes round no. 3 of favorite episodes. My esteemed colleagues Rick and Hanh have picked their favorites and they each took considerable time preparing their list. I laughed at that -- until I sat down to do mine and it became a four-days-long project.
Here were my personal parameters for the list: 1. Each show could only have one episode on the list. 2. I would not repeat my colleagues' choices, which was particularly hard with "Buffy" and "Veronica Mars," as my top picks have been spoken for. 3. A two-parter counts as one slot on my list. My list, my rules. 4. There was a limit of 10.
Why a limit? Because my initial list had 22 entries and I realized I was basically just listing my favorite shows and then picking good episodes. I had to be more disciplined! The 12 I took off (for a variety of reasons) became "honorable mentions" of a sort.

Jessica Simpson: newly minted country star – and women's rights supporter. The singer, 28, plans to perform songs from her new album Do You Know (which just hit No. 1 on the country chart) at the Nina's Night Out concert in Las Vegas Thursday night. The show, which raises money for the Rape Crisis Center in Las Vegas, will be held at The Palms' Pearl Theater. "I think this will be a more passionate performance than most," Simpson told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "It's important to make a stand for women's rights. If I can get up there and be any inspiration to women,...
