It will be available exclusively on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in all other territories.

But McConville was only one of many others who became known collectively as The Disappeared. Turns out, there are still surprises to be found on this year’s movie release calendar. Just hours after Annapurna finally dated their long-gestating Dick Cheney film, “Vice,” Fox has gone ahead and a slew of changes on their own calendar. The new dates, as reported by Deadline and already reflected on BoxOfficeMojo’s listings, include not just the pushing back of no less than three films, but the unexpected announcement of a brand-new entry into their burgeoning “Deadpool” franchise. Well, sort of.
Deadline reports that “Alita: Battle Angel,” long set for a December 21 release, will now arrive on February 14, 2019. With that spot wide open on the calendar, Fox has slotted in a “untitled” “Deapool” film that is believed to be a “PG-13 version” of this summer’s “Deadpool 2.” Adding fuel to the fire of “wait, what is this?,” star Ryan Reynolds tweeted a picture of himself in costume as the wacky superhero,...

Fox just made a slew of release date changes. Instead of opening Alita: Battle Angel on Dec. 21, she now goes on Feb. 14, 2019. Instead, Fox is releasing, what we hear, is a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 on Dec. 21. They’ve listed it as untitled Deadpool movie.
For Alita, it’s about the date, to have the first movie coming out of Chinese New Year, being day and date. The movie is in tip-top VFX shape and its delay has nothing to do with post-production. This leaves the Dec. 21 play period with Deadpool 2, Warners’ Aquaman, Paramount’s Bumblee, Sony’s Holmes and Watson, and Universal’s Welcome to Marwen.
Also, the next X-Men Dark Phoenix won’t open on Feb. 14 anymore, rather next summer in the June 7 slot. The trailer launched this week earning close to 8M YouTube views on Fox’s channel. Summer is not only a better date,...

Gambit has to be one of the most cursed movie productions over the past few years, Gore Verbinski is the latest in a line of directors that has decided to walk away from the film.
Related: Gambit News and Developments
Joining the likes of Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt, Verbinski is said to have come to an amicable decision with the studio to leave the picture due to scheduling issues as a number of other projects have now taken president.
The race is now on to find another suitable director to take over the helm as casting is in full swing and filming due to start within the next few months to meet its scheduled February 2019 release. The only mainstay of the production at this point is Channing Tatum.
Tatum will play Gambit, whose ability to control kinetic energy enables him to weaponize playing cards and other projectiles.

Somehow, somewhere, Fox is still developing a Gambit movie for Channing Tatum—but without Doug Liman, who was once attached to direct. Now, while promoting his new film The Wall, Liman has explained why he gave up on the X-Men spinoff to try his hand at the DC universe with Justice League Dark. “I’m all about the script, and I just wasn’t feeling it,” he said in an interview with Lrm. “I’ve got to connect to the script.“ He then went on to compare his feelings on this matter to Matt Damon’s, noting that Damon calls himself a “‘script whore.” That’s really neither here nor there, though. Ultimately, it just seems like Gambit wasn’t shaping up to be all that great.

MaryAnn’s quick take… Unfocused like a 1970s cast-of-thousands disaster flick, and with little point beyond engaging in bland and easy propagandistic cheering. Boston deserves better. I’m “biast” (pro): have enjoyed Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg’s previous collaborations
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
There are likely hundreds of amazing, moving stories to be told about the 2013 bombing at the finish line of Boston’s annual marathon… and dang if Patriots Day — named after the local holiday on which the bombing occurred — doesn’t seem to want to tell all of them all at once.
Patriots Day barely introduces us to one set of characters before jumping away to another.
Director and screenwriter (with Matt Cook and Joshua Zetumer) Peter Berg might have been more successful zooming in on star Mark Wahlberg’s composite cop character Tommy Saunders...

Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg reunite again, to tell the story of the hunt for the Boston marathon bombers...
If you’re looking for the go-to man to bring the story of a modern real-life tragedy to the screen, within a decade of it happening, then Peter Berg is, right now, candidate number one. Last year, he brought us Deepwater Horizon, a tense and taut telling of the explosion on the off-shore drilling rig of the same name. There, he took time to introduce characters, gradually built, with a documentary feel, to the explosion itself, and then explored the aftermath. He also ensured that the real life people the film was based on got their moment as the end credits rolled.
With Patriots Day, that was in post-production even as Berg was promoting Deepwater Horizon, he’s brought the same approach to the story of the hunt for the Boston...

Chicago – In the context of history, and the way information is consumed these days, the Boston Marathon Bombing in 2013 seems both like yesterday and a long time ago. Director Peter Berg’s “Patriots Day” is the first film account of that horrid week, and features Mark Wahlberg.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Wahlberg, along with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, are the unofficial show biz mayors of Boston, and inspired a wicked parody by Seth Meyers called “Boston Accents.” The subject matter of “Patriot Days” creates an immunity towards commentary on the Boston accents in the movie, but there are still a few moments that are reminders (seriously, download that sketch on YouTube). Peter Berg (“Friday Night Lights”) is a yeoman director who tells a straightforward story, and succeeds in re-creating the events of that week without too much hyperbole. It was a frightening time for Boston and the country, but the results of...

Go figure. Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg seem to bring out the very best in each other. Between Lone Survivor and now Patriots Day (Deepwater Horizon as well, to a lesser extent), the pair have found a niche in true life drama and heroism. This new film is their best yet, and actually one of 2016’s better works. It’s threatening to score a spot on my year end top ten list, which is something. Emotional, thrilling, and a seamless blend of history/action, this is a special movie. It deserves to find a large audience this week when it starts to hit theaters. The film is a dramatized look at the events surrounding the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. In short, the events leading up to the terrorist attack and its aftermath are depicted, including the city-wide manhunt to find the people behind it. The protagonist is a composite character...

Simon Kinberg says that the script was the reason for the holdup with the Gambit movie.
It seems like the Gambit movie has been in the works for a long, long time right now. They've had a star in place for well over a year with Channing Tatum, and the production is now on its second director. Still, the 20th Century Fox X-Men movie universe seems to be functioning just fine, with the recent success of Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalypse just weeks away, and Wolverine 3 just getting underway for a 2017 release.
X-Men movie producer Simon Kinberg explained what the holdup is, and when he expects the production might actually get moving.
“We’ve got to get the script right” he told Flickering Myth. “We just didn’t get the script to the place where we all thought the movie deserved. So we’re still working on the script.

If you're one of the few people out there who is honestly excited for a two-hour film about "Gambit" starring Channing Tatum, then you'll be more than happy to hear how the film has recently been described by Simon Kinberg, main captain of everything happening in the Fox cinematic universe. It won't be your typical superhero origin film, nor will it be a gritty and graphic film full of action and explosions. No, it will be a heist/sexy thriller film, like a hybrid between "21 Jump Street" and "Magic Mike," two films that also just so happened to star one Channing Tatum.
"Gambit will have it's own different flavor and tone to it, will be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way."
I'm sure many of you had this year's "Ant-Man" pop into your head when the thought of a superhero heist movie was mentioned,...

A&E Network has ordered a pilot from “Gambit” writer Joshua Zetumer, “The Infamous.” “The Infamous” is described as an unflinching crime drama that centers on two complicated men on a collision course: an ambitious reformed gangster poised to break out of South Central and the Lapd detective hell-bent on taking him down. It’s set against real events in 1990s Los Angeles, leading up to the La Riots. “The Infamous” is written by Joshua Zetumer, screenwriter of Fox’s upcoming comic book adaptation “Gambit.” Zetumer will also executive produce alongside Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson under their Color Force banner.

A&E has ordered a pilot for what will be a pre-riots 1990s-set Los Angeles crime drama, titled “The Infamous,” which hails from Joshua Zetumer (writer of the upcoming X-Men "Gambit" spinoff), and will follow the collision between a reformed South Central gangster looking to leave his criminal past behind him (but they keep pulling him back in, I'm sure), and the Lapd detective who is determined to take him down. “Original scripted series have become an increasingly important part of the A&E brand,” said Elaine Frontain Bryant, head of programming at A&E. “By looking a few decades back in time, ‘The Infamous’ urgently explores the issues of racial...

Channing Tatum has been talking about a lot of movies recently. On the promotional trail for Magic Mike Xxl, he updated on his still-gestating Ghostbusters reboot, and has now teased his vision for his upcoming Gambit movie, which is due to hit screens in 2016. While Taylor Kitsch played the role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, 20th Century Fox replaced him with Tatum for the Gambit solo film – which will be written by Joshua Zetumer, from a treatment by character creator Chris Claremont. Speaking to Comic Book Resources, Tatum revealed that he is working closely with director Rupert Wyatt to realize a particular version of the story.
“We’re so early in it. I really have some things in mind, but who knows – it’s pretty fluid at this point. I do believe that [director] Rupert [Wyatt] and I have the exact same vision of what we want to do. We want it to be different.

Still reeling from the box office failure of his critically derided historical thriller Child 44, director Daniel Espinosa has departed the Boston Marathon bombing drama Boston Strong.
Creative differences were cited as the reason for the split, though no details were available as to what those differences entailed. Espinosa, who broke out with 2010’s Easy Money and went on to helm action hit Safe House, has been going through a rough patch lately; Child 44 was reportedly a monster to tackle in the editing room, and even with extensive post-production work, it became a high-profile disappointment for Lionsgate.
Boston Strong, which The Fighter scribes Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy originally adapted from the book of the same name by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge, focuses on the manhunt for bombing suspects Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev in the immediate aftermath of a devastating attack during the 2013 Boston Marathon, and how the...

20th Century Fox has enlisted RoboCop writer Joshua Zetumer to adapt Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge’s nonfiction book Boston Strong, which chronicles the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. The studio picked up the project in November and attached Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa to direct. The Fighter writers Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy wrote a draft of the screenplay that piqued Fox's interest enough to bite. “There are only conversations and dreams right now, really,” Channing Tatum said in June of this year about 20th Century Fox’s proposed “Gambit” movie, a stand-alone “X-Men” film he would star in. “Creatively, we’re starting to chug forward. Obviously there’s nothing official.” Well, a lot can change in a few months, especially when Marvel and Warner Brothers are planning dozens of films over the next six years, and a studio like Fox wants to stay in this escalating arms race of superhero movies. So “Gambit” is less of a pipe dream now, and is moving forward. Deadline reports that Joshua Zetumer has been hired to write the screenplay. Zetumer is an interesting figure in Hollywood. He only has one produced credit to his name, the recent “RoboCop” remake, however he’s an extremely hot screenwriter that’s very much in demand. He wrote a version of “Bourne...

In the comics, Gambit is also known as Remy LeBeau and is able to charge matter with an explosive kinetic energy - causing objects to explode on impact. Taylor Kitsch played the role in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".

‘RoboCop’ 2014 movie: Full-fledged flop at domestic box office (photo: Joel Kinnaman in ‘RoboCop’ 2014) Directed by José Padilha, and starring Joel Kinnaman and Abbie Cornish, Sony Pictures’ $100 million-budgeted RoboCop 2014 remake opened with disappointing numbers on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Things improved a bit over the weekend, but there’s no denying that RoboCop 2014 will become a major domestic box office bomb. (See also: José Padilha hates ‘RoboCop’ 2014 filmmaking process.) According to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo, Padilha’s remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 "classic" (as mentioned elsewhere on this site, just about anything made before 2003 is considered a classic these days) landed in third place this extended Presidents Day Weekend, February 14-17, trailing both Warner Bros.’ overwhelmingly well-received The Lego Movie and Sony Pictures / ScreenGems’ low-budget romantic comedy About Last Night. Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street), and featuring the voices of Chris Pratt,...

It has been 27 years since one of the seminal 80s sci-fi films, RoboCop, blasted onto cineplex screens. By today's Hollywood formulas, it's the perfect age for a remake that can bring the franchise name to new viewers and cash in on an audience eager to see an updated favorite. Too often, this results in a disappointing flop like 2012's Total Recall, a development that wouldn't have surprised with Jose Padilha's modern take on the Verhoeven blockbuster.
It is impossible not to compare the two versions, for better or for worse. Verhoeven's movie had a signature gritty, steely dystopian feel that contrasts against Padilha's sleek modern curves and smooth black gloss. As the first set photos from the new RoboCop made their way to the internets, angry fans denounced the insectile look of the black armor that replaced the familiar brushed steel. Fortunately, a more familiar steel uniform does appear, and...

‘Robocop’ 2014 review: ‘More interesting ideas than it can properly address’ You’ll have to excuse older moviegoers if they feel an almost weekly tinge of nostalgia with the latest announcement that their favorite film from the ’80s is being treated to a big-money remake. And yet, while you’d think 40-somethings would be thrilled that anyone in the film industry cares if they buy a movie ticket, any news of a Reagan-era remake is usually met with harrumphs of disapproval from Gen-Xers who hold these films so close to their hearts that a reboot is dismissed as downright sacrilegious. No one should deny or minimize a person’s formative movie house memories, but there’s really no argument to be made that, say, Footloose, a respectable creative achievement from 1984, is such a flawless gem that it cannot be successfully revamped and even improved. The fact that it was remade in...

Chicago – You get the sense that a writer for the new “RoboCop” felt very proud of himself when he coined the cheeky word “robophobic” as a play on a current cultural hot button. The Samuel L. Jackson moment of self-fulfilled glory reminded me of the rest of the plot that was missing.

Any movie that tries a lot harder than it needs to is all right in my book. And that’s exactly the case with RoboCop, an impressive reboot of the Paul Verhoeven classic that, much to my delight, fires on all cylinders, blending furious action, strong acting and an inventive script to create a film that uses familiar parts to build something sleek, smart and entirely capable of going toe-to-toe with Verhoeven’s original.
I’m well aware that fans of the original RoboCop will balk at that praise, call it unsubstantiated and probably even berate me for entirely missing the point, but hear me out. What Verhoeven’s film did fantastically was address the political hot topics and concerns of its time (declining industry, privatization, etc.) by playing them out in a futuristic, but believable, setting. And while José Padilha’s PG-13 remake arrives without the original’s enticing ultraviolence,...

Paul Verhoeven’s science-fiction films RoboCop and Total Recall take place in different environments and eras, but share a similarly raucous, ramshackle, satiric attitude. These films are products of their time, filled with garishly practical effects and grimy, tactile sets, costumes, and character designs; you could reach out and touch his visions of futuristic Detroit or Mars, even though you probably wouldn’t want to spend much time in either locale. The recent Total Recall remake from director Len Wiseman was lifeless and devoid of personality; it assembled a decent ensemble including Colin Farrell and Bryan Cranston, and proceeded to waste them entirely in a world that was intentionally fake and shiny, a green-screen facsimile. USA, 2014
The remake of RoboCop is a largely different beast to Paul Verhoeven’s original film, and is all the better for choosing not to be a slavish re-creation minus the trademark ultra-violence. The 2014 take may be less gory and far less cartoonish, but there is an actual satirical fire at its heart, just with different targets to those Verhoeven concerned himself with. If taken on its own terms with what it tries to do, rather than being glibly decried for everything it doesn’t retain from the original, there is a fair amount of merit to be found here, even if it doesn’t completely stick its landing at all times, nor ever reach the highs of its source material.
In 2028, the Detroit-based OmniCorp company has received considerable acclaim – at least from the overtly right-wing, as represented by Samuel L. Jackson’s Bill O.

I can't say I went into director Jose Padilha's RoboCop remake expecting very much. Even the title speaks to a bygone era. But I was largely satisfied up until the ridiculous third act making it seem as if all thought was put into how to walk the path as opposed to where they were actually going. For the first two thirds, screenwriter Joshua Zetumer did a great job reinventing the story of a Detroit-police officer-turned-cyborg, more than 25 years after the original. Updated for today's technology, he also dedicates more time to the moral complexity and whys behind building a cyborg robot as robotics company OmniCorp and its CEO (Michael Keaton) are looking for a way to sell their law-enforcing robots to the unconvinced American public. Already in use around the world, cleaning up war ravaged countries, OmniCorp must find a way to bring a moral compass to their robotic beings.
