Sally Shigeishi
- Additional Crew
Sally Shizue Shigeishi (née Akada) was born at home on March 20, 1937 in New Westminster, BC. She was the youngest in a family of six surviving siblings. Being the youngest, she was able to finish high school (however, she wasn't able to go to university because the family needed her to work). Her family moved often - forcibly to internment camps during WW2 and then "west of the Rockies" to an Alberta sugar beet farm, and later to Ontario, finally settling in Toronto. She married Shig Shigeishi, had three children and two grandchildren. Because of her high school education, she was able to avoid doing domestic work and worked at the Bank of Commerce (now CIBC) before she stopped to raise her family and manage the household. Later, when the kids were older, she and her sister, Kay, opened a restaurant in a bowling alley where they became famous for their homemade pies and meals. She also worked for 21 years as a Program Analyst at CBC's "Fifth Estate", an investigative journalism TV show (which won an International Emmy Award for excellence in TV programming outside the U.S.). She passed away from ALS on October 14, 2006 at age 69.
