VANish would have seemed at home at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival, when the first wave of Tarantino imitators were shelling their wares to a studio system that couldn’t pay our fast enough. Of course, as history has taught us, that trend of fast-talking, gun-waving slacker criminals didn’t die out then, but it’s hard to imagine who exactly director Bryan Bockbrader thought he was going to shock. All of the characters play hard at getting the highest decibel intensity that they can, but even the actors seem to know that this schtick is long past its shelf life.

Dont pick up VANish anticipating a big film. And dont look into it expecting some earth shattering concept for that matter either. But you can bet all of your Lucky Charms that youll find a beating heart in the film which still pumps blood long after the credits roll. Kudos go out to Bryan Bockbrader as the man delivers something impacting here and a future run of thrilling pics could very well lie in wait for the celluloid neophyte with a knack for writing directing and even performing.

Hello Maiara,
First let me start by saying thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions, and that I really was impressed by your performance in VANish (review). I thought it was absolutely great.
Maiara Walsh (Mw): Well first of all, thank you! I’m glad that you enjoyed it, it was, as Bryan Bockbrader would say, “one hell of a ride”.
I've got a questions pertaining to both you, as an actress, and to the film itself, so I will try to alternate them for the most part. My first question is for you, and really, I'm always curious what leads anyone to get into this industry. I know I have a story. Everyone I know has a story, whether they Direct, act, work Craft services, etc. So what lead you to want to be an actress?
Mw: Ah stories,...

What do you get when you mix part action flick, part horror flick, part thriller, and part buddy comedy/road trip movie? Probably something fairly close to VANish. After getting to enjoy Dark Sky Film's most recent release, “Starry Eyes”, for review, I was in no way going to turn down the chance to enjoy their next one.
So, the story set up is this: Jack (Austin Abke), and Max (Bryan Bockbrader, who also writes, and directs) are buddies that decide to kidnap Emma (Maiara Walsh), and hold her ransom, wanting five million bucks from her father (Danny Trejo). Along the way they get help from Afghanistan Vet Shane (Adam Guthrie). However, as the story progresses, we learn that not everyone on this little road trip from hell are who they say they are.
That's basically all I want to give away, as I really enjoyed the flick,...

Writer-director Bryan Bockbrader bravely keeps the camera crammed inside the van for the entirety of the film. Abiding by the rules of single-location filmmaking, Bockbrader traps his characters (and the audience) within the van's 8' by 4' interior in order to perpetuate the film's claustrophobic intensity; VANish simultaneously takes full advantage of the inherent forward motion of the road movie genre to propel the narrative deep into the desert where the amateur kidnappers hope to exchange Emma for a cool 5 million dollars.

'VANish' looks to be a good old fashioned bloody flick and we've grabbed the first stills! The film is about a kidnapped woman and will be shot entirely inside the getaway van. Danny Trejo ('Machete') and Tony Todd ('Candyman') will be supplying the mayhem whilst this will be Bryan Bockbrader's debut behind the camera. 'I had this idea of doing a road movie from the perspective of inside the vehicle' said Bockbrader. '...giving the viewer a chance to ride along as a passenger. As the tension builds, we are trapped in this place with extremely dangerous people and when the shit hits the fan (or van) there's no escaping the chaos.' Danny Trejo is the f***ing man and both he and co-star Todd are featured in the two new stills shown below. Maiara Walsh, Joe Davis, Hope Diaz, Austin Abke...

Director Chris R. Notarile is probably best known in geekdom for his short films featuring comic book characters.
In 2006, he wrote and directed Catwoman: The Diamond Exchange, starring Niki Rubin as the feline felon; Joker, starring Bryan Bockbrader and with Deanna Miller as accomplice Harley Quinn; and I'm Power Girl Dammit!!! with Tawnya Manion as the title character, Guile Branco as Bizarro (an opposite version of Superman) and Sarah Durning as Oracle (a later identity of Batgirl).
Last year he returned to the superhero genre with a new short called Elektra (The Hand & The Devil) with Kim Santiago as Elektra and Adam Shorsten as Daredevil.
Next in the pipeline for Chris is a twisted suspense thriller called Daddy's Girl. It's his second feature film following 2007's Methodic about a boy possessed by a demonic presence called The Dollman.
The filmmaker has now released a trailer, poster and synopsis for the film,...
