There are at least three major horror releases coming out this week, with Bitter Feast, The Last Exorcism and Case 39. Some will cringe at these titles, while others will jump in horrific delight. The independent feature Bitter Feast from director Joe Maggio releases January 4th on DVD and Blu-Ray. This is a tale of revenge, as one chef gives a scathing food critic and blogger his just desserts. This film will release through Dark Sky Films. Other films also release January 4th.
The Eli Roth (Hostel) produced The Last Exorcism did very well at the box office considering its meager $2 million price tag. Yet, movie critics have been ambivalent, with comments like "a nice surprise" (San Francisco Chronicle), "[the film] is thoroughly engrossing until it loses its way about three-quarters in" (USA Today), and "the film’s docu-style and credible improv acting lay the foundation for an eerie and believable horror movie" (Chicago Tribune). After premiering at the Laff this coming Thursday, the Eli Roth produced horror flick opens wide on August 27. Patrick Fabian, Iris Bahr, Louis Herthum, Ashley Bell, Tony Bentley, Caleb Jones, Shanna Forrestall, Allen Boudreaux, Denise Lee, Becky Fly, Logan Craig Reid, Jamie Alyson Caudle all star in the Daniel Stamm directed pic.

The Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor dramedy I Love You Phillip Morris has been acquired for domestic distribution by Consolidated Pictures Group, report the trades. The production and distribution group, which launched at the Sundance Film Fest, has set a Valentine's Day 2010 release. Based on a book by Houston Chronicle crime reporter Steve McVicker, the fact-based film casts Carrey as Steven Russell, a married father whose exploits landed him in the Texas criminal justice system. He fell madly in love with his cellmate (McGregor), who eventually was set free, which led Russell to escape from Texas prisons four times. Despite earning positive reviews after it premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, many distributors passed on the film because of its subject matter. The film, written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Bad Santa), makes its overseas premiere as a Directors' Fortnight offering at Cannes. Leslie Mann,...
