All of Hollywood is looking for ways to reinvent successful stories, but what happens when the original is near-perfect? You have to reinvent the wheel while the prototype is still flourishing in the market, and the inventors watch from afar as their blueprints fall into new hands.
Such is the case with Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” a dramatic reimagining of the beloved Nickelodeon cartoon from Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko. Both creators exited the live-action series in 2020, citing creative differences that have lurked in the shadows while the highly-anticipated end product makes its way to the screen. Under the guidance of showrunner Albert Kim, this is not your Gran-Gran’s “Avatar,” with mixed results.

Carrie-Anne Moss and Richard Armitage have joined the cast of Broad Green Pictures drama Brain on Fire.
Based on Susannah Cahalan’s memoir Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness, the drama is currently in production in Vancouver.
Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) is set to play Cahalan while Moss (The Matrix) and Armitage (The Hobbit) will play Susannah’s parents, Tom Cahalan and Rhona Nack.
Gerard Barrett (Glassland) will direct while Charlize Theron, A.J. Dix and Beth Kono of Denver & Delilah, and Rob Merilees and Lindsay Macadam of Foundation Features are producing.

And the top nod-getter this year is “The Young and The Restless” with 23 chances at glory, while “General Hospital” nabbed 19 mentions.
“Days of Our Lives” and “Sesame Street” both tied for third place thanks to 17 nominations each, and there are plenty of other big names on the list as well.
